the new Regina Spektor cd "far"
That cd is decent. My gf has it.
Who would have thought that Mandy Moore could have made a decent record? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMg-HrZR78Q
"Far" by Regina Spektor is good (no surprise here) and Jenny Owen Youngs "Transmitter Failure" is also kind of nice.
Alex Under Base - Privacy
Blasting some Dr. Octagon while I clean my room. Currently on track "halfsharkalligatorhalfman"
;)
Lots of General Buzz.
Few music lovers here...
No, just few posters. Everyone loves music.
Listening to OTT's latest release of his live show. Very good.
I see. Thanks for reply.
been listening to La Mala Rodriguez, Malamarismo. It's a cool spanish hip hop album
Been on a huge Bob Dylan kick.
Looking to get into some good blues, any recommendations?
google, you tube...
<mod edit> I'm removing any off-topic posts from you in any thread. Continue to do so, you're going to not have the ability to post for 3 days. Seriously, it's beyond annoying by now. - gerbick (supermod)
Matters on what kind of sound you're looking for. Some blues is so old school, you'd have to be in love with the genre to like it. I mean, it' old, old school; analogous to Hank Williams Sr. (the yodeling, et al) to Hank Williams Jr. (more progressive).
I've always been a fan of John Lee Hooker - go find "Boom Boom". If anything, that's a bit uptempo. But his voice, ability to play... he's great.
I'm also a fan BB King - seen him a ton of times. Again, more uptempo usually. Thrill is Gone is very well known... you've invariably heard this.
For old, old, old school... Robert Johnson. His whole background is around his deal with the devil. Wicked slide guitarist though.
This is where I usually get in trouble. I truly didn't like Muddy Waters. Yes, he's good, but something about his more well known music turned me off when I was first introduced to blues as a kid. Mannish Boy - EVERYBODY knows this song. Then I heard a version he had done live in a club from a bootleg cassette... yeah, he played the LIVING **** out of a guitar. A solo like no other. And I went backwards. Got My Mojo Working, Rolling Stone... the earlier recordings are better.
If you want down home... non-Pop blues, don't look for ZZ Hill. Way more pop than anything else. But look for Mississippi Delta Blues. I can't name one dude at all though that sticks out. Perhaps Howlin' Wolf.
I've Never been a muddy fan either. Couldn't tell you why mind.
I think the key to getting into the blues is to get a couple of good compilations. Most of the best blues tunes were by artists who maybe only recorded one or two sides, pre-lp days.
Try to grab the soundtrack to Scorsese Presents the Blues. I think it comes in both a one disc or two disc set.
Howlin' Wolf - CV Wine... top five song of all time for me for sure.
My first turn on to blues was Black Snake Moan, this looks like a great list to start from, thanks guys.
Some stuff I have been producing recently:-

Hiphop beat 2 has a STS9 feel to it. Nice work on it all.
Thanks WB :)
Are you gonna be my girl ? (Jet)
listening to company of thieves. Pretty cool
gerbs is on point regarding which style of the genre you'll be into. Personally, i'm a fan of Big Momma Thorton...lady can bring down a jetliner with her voice. Just melts your body.
Stay the hell away from Clapton's blues sessions and anything after 1980 for BB King. Pure rubbish.
I HATE the modern blues guys like Johnny Lang or Kenny Wayne Sheppard. They're just ripping off some of the classics like Stevie Ray Vaughan (my personal guitar idol) Clapton, Hendrix and others. Nothing original about any of them.
A good sample of the blues i've been listening to lately...try searching for 'folk blues classics' on iTunes.
Great artists such as James Cotton, Walter Trout, Keb' Mo', Taj Mahal, Sonny Boy Williamson, and even Woodie Guthrie are absolutely rockin. True blues at it's finest.
And if you like the soundtrack from Black Snake Moan (which is cool) try the soundtrack from 'Death Proof' by Tarantino.
Kansas Joe is really awesome :lovers:
A Perfect Circle - Weak And Powerless )
LOVING Clutch at the moment, had Blast Tyrant on repeat for the last few days. Awesome stuffs.
They're from Canada 'eh.

Right this second, I'm listening to Wing-shaped Heart by Visions of Atlantis.
My music list has all kinds of songs, I don't really have just one or two styles I listen to like some people I know.
Anyone listen to the new Pearl Jam album from front to back yet? I'm debating on buying it.
