Yes yes, here here. My shading with pencils really sucks at close ups. I practiced and came up with this. Just out of the curiosity; anybody know what it is?

It's a German soldier holding a rifle. I meant to darken the outline of his helmet, which might have made it a little more obvious.
But as said, I want to learn to shade better.
Ah, I can see the helmet now. I was thinking it was a hooded cloak like the dude from Assassin's Creed. Everything's good, I think it just needs more detail.
Yeah. I really screwed up with the hands and the gun. I'm very new to trying to vary from H6- B6 pencils. So I've been trying to vary.
I'm going to keep looking at what people have to offer on YouTube. (It's the only thing that can visually teach me)

New portrait drawing.
So Today we had a new model come into the art guild, to have this group draw her.
This has to be one of my best apparently with charcoal.
The eyes are a bit messed up, because of when I tried to touched them up, my eraser was on it's last leg.
Don't mind the right eye brow, she posed like that.
I think I may have made her body proportion a little too wide. From my view, her head seems smaller then her body. I'm not sure.

Ah! Art-- how I love art, I've been locked up doing research papers for far too many days now... (expect some watercolors when I'm out of school in a couple of weeks tho, mayyybe) ;)

Render! that is some craaaaaazy stuff you have going on there-- I cannot believe all the details that went into the background and all... now this is an animation right? we'll be able to see it when it's done... right? :D I love the angle view from above (strangely reminds me of Zelda on n64 haha)-- looks like the rest of the views are more following the character, right? like.. maybe stalking him? because I really like how you've got that unexpected view from above, maybe you could incorporate more like that (then again that would mean all those fancy 3D details wouldnt be seen up-close either.. so dont let them go to waste!!)
That reminds me-- I recently saw the Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D and it was really interesting to see how, with the 3D in effect, they treated their unexpected camera angles, with blurred objects in the foreground and even more going on way in the background. fun fun :)

Evaman, here's a tip for doing charcoal pieces-- USE A CHAMOIS CLOTH!! Go to an auto store and pick one up (brand new-- never put one in the washer if you're using it for art). Cut out a square from it (like 5x5" would work fine, it's small enough to not mess up other areas of your drawing)-- and what you do with this is smudge out mistakes (never erase!) and make mid-tones. If you've got something down in charcoal that you don't like (and I should hope you're using charcoal sticks, not sharp points of charcoal pencils... or even using a big sharpened-down charcoal pencil, that's okay as long as you've got a lot of drawing material to work with in big swipes)-- if you make a mistake, just wipe it away. you'll be able to see it, sure, but you can cover it up with more prominent outlines and such. Always do a big gesture drawing before you get to work-- on any piece! make sure you know where things are going to be placed. If you're not sure, carefully study the negative space and use plum and level lines (vertical and horizontal lines drawn to reference where one part of an object meets with another, or is relative to)-- placement's really important. The nice thing about charcoal is it is really forgiving! Are you working on smooth newsprint, btw? because that's the best surface I've found yet. Also, once you get comfortable with using a chamois with your charcoal sticks, then you can take a razor and shave off dust from a compressed charcoal stick... smudge that all around your empty page so you get a nice mid-tone, then you can go through and edit in lights with a kneaded eraser. Of course, if you mess up and it's too prominent you can erase, but try to get used to keeping a chamois handy. I've found that smudging the charcoal around with my fingers can give nice blending. (hands are drawing tools, too!) :D
actually i'm now noticing that there are lots of marks of chamois on your work... whoops my bad >.< just try blending with your chamois-- actually I have 2, a 'clean' and a 'dirty' one, the clean one I use for picking up excess charcoal and the dirty I use for blending and darkening. Don't rely on contour lines to define shapes. Rather, try to pay attention to the form-- light and shadow-- and render your pieces with that in mind more than contour (of course, contour lines are a necessity too).
Annnd with your pencil drawings.. use a paper blending stump to really mush your colors together so you don't get visible pencil strokes. Don't be afraid to push your contrast... and mostly... have fun and good luck :D
(sorry if that was a long-ish rant, I've been coming home with charcoaled hands about every day so I've been dealing with life drawing a lot lately) :P

Ok, just got done after a few hours with this.
A small platoon of German Soldiers; to make up for my last crummy one. Since I've been doing a lot of World War II history (because of the interest, and thanks to America finance for giving me no time to spare with my curiousity) I thought I'd draw some bits.
Otherwise; I was going to improve some of the shading marks, and debating on adding another soldier on the far right blank.

lots of action here,- almost missed mclelun´s latest vector drawing- nice one.
Evaman: try adding some detail- do you have white pencils or white chalk? - they would do perfectly for addding little highlights on the cheeks- shoulders and the forehead.
Not sure if your paper is tinted at least from the pics it looks that way a good way is to work with dark & white pencils on such papers.
worked this week again on the textures for the market scene and modeled lots of objects for the market. Thouhh you wont notice the new objects that much in these renderings as they hide them pretty good in the overal scene colorwise.
