I know what you mean about the code comments Chris, they take so much time and I always feel that I still haven't explained enough when I do.
Can't wait to see the blog code. Thanks

I'm trying my best to add them but I decided to finish out the admin (well, as finished as I can right now but better than even I had when I used it) and I'll be into the night getting it submitted just dealing with code. I just can't comment too much, I wish I had more time but this was a recent decision and I'm pressed for time. The best I can say is if there are any questions afterward head to my place and post in the forum because right now I just want this up the pipe.
Another dude was posting about a Flash Blog and if you are curious to see the specs they are in the last post of mine here:
http://board.flashkit.com/board/show...85#post3778385
I know I'm posting a lot but I'm stressed and want to make sure I get info out while it's fresh in my head. Sorry.
Right now, admin lets you insert images entering a valid url (needs to be full url to support RSS) a width and a height. It can do better and I will help, just not with this download. For now you will have to type in the three settings and insert.
I have another Twisted Lister backend that is built specifically for Flash html textfields that will filter a directory for image types Flash supports. What this one does the other doesn't is it will not only snake the directory and send in the path and image names, it will also read the widths and heights dynamically and send them in as well. Flash has to have path, width and height for inline images. I've already done this with kiosks and it works great.
So this will be an upload similar to what I did for dniezby. I will set it up to snake, populate a listbox (or maybe actually scroll the images and then have you click on them...dunno) and on click have it send the image to an example html textfield in a completely different clip. This way everyone can adapt it not only for my stuff (myBLOGG, myBBS,etc) but anywhere they need the ability to just drag and drop or click to send an image to their html fields. Just like how PHP portals do it by visually choosing an image from within the server space.
This will come in two flavors. One that is all PHP that simply sends in array suitable for actionscript from any directory it resides in and one that will build an XML file doing the same (so you drop the puppy anywhere and build xml in seconds). This will be the submission that immediately follows after Xmas.
Again, sorry for all the posts. :)
I tested and tested and tested some more. I must have zipped and unzipped and sql dumped and wrote and deleted and edited and messed with it a million times to test every possible scenario of problem and it all went ok (which means something will slip by :))
I uploaded it (I think...waitin to hear from Wilbert because I'm not sure if it timed out) and to finish out on this one I wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year !!
:mrpimp:
I got about my 20th request for instructions on how to convert my Stream Machine submission to allow loading into a parent movie. There won't be a twentyfirst because I recoded it tonight to do just that.
It's in my downloads but not really worth going through the submission process since one is already housed there. Wanted to mention.
Hi
There was a bit of talk the other day about nav bars that open up when you click a bar. I was working on an actionscript tree type navbar and so I tidied it up and put it on exchange just now
The tree runs in a mc so you could attach a slider to it if you wanted but I dont need one and have not coded it.
The important part is 3 symbols in the symbol library. One is the AS for the Tree object, and the other 2 are mclips for the two visual parts which you can make to look how you want - Im no good at visual design - Im sure you will improve on whats there :-)
Good luck with it
Steve
Nice work Steve thanks.
A new dynamic template uploaded for aproval.
Uh-Oh....there goes the bandwidth! :yikes:
LOL...nice job Stoke
LOL cheers
Now aproved, thanks for quick turn-around who ever did it.
Just saw the submissions to Flashkit by Bret and Stoke. They look great guys.
I hope to see you mirror everything you do there. It's great exposure for you and great for the platform as well. :)
HTML email sender uploaded to Koolexchange and Flashkit awaiting aproval.
This complete application is ready to go, simply requires you to enter your e-mail address in the php and to change the password which is used to protect the package.
edit- now aproved thanks for the stars :p
Featured flash again
In the last couple of weeks KM created products have twice been up there ( last one was Chris's Blog ) Can only be a good thing to promote KM to the whole flash community. What price free press eh BOB? :p
I appreciate it. Moreover, it is a service to the community to share quality code.
That is great to hear Stoke! It deserves every bit of it and those are fantastic submissions.
Thanks, look forward to sharing the lymelite with a few of our quality regulars here when they post their offerings.
That last submission for me offered something I haven't been able to get from either my KoolExchange ones or the Flashkit ones until now. Comments. The comments section of Flashkit is being fixed (Planet mentioned) so since the blog demo in the preview is tied to a live Blog...it actually provides users the chance to comment which I check with the admin panel daily. Until now I could only guess at what FKers are thinking when they view and download these Koolmoves items.Quote:

With that crowd in mind I should exploit the demo even further by making the article on entry about Koolmoves itself with a list of it's features and a link to the site. I'll most likely do just that :)
just uploaded my first template tell me what you think
Drew, I'll be honest with you it looks pretty
but,
1. there's no interaction there... Really it's incomplete as it is.
2. Why not draw the background inside KM? wasted filesize and nothing there that can't easily be done in KM
It's a good start, just spend some time on it and make the tabs do something. Consider making the tabs movie clips and make it look like they come forward when clicked and go to a new content page or load different text into the text fields.
ok thanks and yes i didnt make it do anything but thats why its called a template why should a spend a lot of time making it do stuff if the users is going to change it. I wil be more then happy to make it a fully working template and reupload it and scanline + and few other thing I dont know how to do in koolmoves if you could make an example I would be greatful.
thanks
Just an idea to get you on the tracks Drew, following on from Bret's comments, if you download my first dynamic template, you will see there the building blocks of a 6 pager, which loads text into each page. Take my template, and reskin it with your own design style, it will look and feel completly different but the basic functions have been done for you. Then start to change things, have a play with text effects and such, maybe sound on mouseover etc. You can build up a portfolio of very different looking templates by simply restretching and moving the components about.
Good point Stoke, I understand Drew but drawing it out is really the easiest part.. I haven't seen a good tab interface done.. Here's a good opportunity to do just that....
Take your tabs make them a a two frame movie clip. In the second frame make them look Non-active.... for example the top line of the lower frame cuts them off a the bottom, and the first frame look active. for example the tab looks as if it's part of the bottom
Ok example just uploaded to exchange and to Flashkit, also made video tutorial that I should have up later today on my tutorial page.
http://bretlanius.com/flash/tutorials.html
Glass buttons tutorial uploaded to KE ;) hope Ull like it.
antART conceptular uploaded to KE ;)
Ant, whats the point of this last one. It really doesn't demonstrate anything... I can't imagine why anyone would want it. Could you clarify? As it is I can't see approving it.
its a clipart with ant. but i dont like to upload only cliparts, so i add effect and text.
what about 'concept' - see... the 'n' i ant is covered, so u dont really know is it 'art' or 'ant'. this trick with text may inspire somebody and be useful in someones other projects. Maybe you know csszengarden - there are css called 'hen garden' and 'css zen dragen'. this inspired me, so maybe my work will inspire someone else. anyway, its a clipart ;)
OK.
By the way nice button tutorial, You might have shown how to create and modify the states, but very good example of how to draw it.
Thanks for sending.
your wish is my command. maybe even today :)Quote:
You might have shown how to create and modify the states,
hm... something is wrong and i cant upload second part of my tutorial. maybe file is too big <4 mb. ill try to compress it or do something else.
Ant, finaly someone has decided to give the crowd what they need, a step by step instruction on how to make something useful, that they can then play about with and make their own. I tried messing with the transparancy and the border size, and I realised there were a whole series of effect available from your straight forward approach.
Good work, the only this I would add is that if you put a stop on each frame and made the buttons turn the page it would have been complete!
yeah, thank you very much Stoke, it means much to me :) stop and next/prev are included in final file, but... this is the corrupted file....
It isnt all of it.
The final one tells also how to add actions and sounds!... im sending Bret an email to delete this entry, becase it isnt what i uploaded. i mean, it is a part of it.
mail sent to Bret. anyway, ill post the final file also here. I also need to say, that i wanted tyo save it uncompressed to give it to users of older KM versions, but uncompressed .fun file i over 4 mb (sic!). Anyway, the 4 megs after zipping gives me 204.3 KB, what is the size of compressed file, so now i see that the fun files are only zipped. anyway, it doesnt matter. heres the final file:
Just upload the right one and let me know which one to delete.
Part 1 is good file.
Please leave this one (glass_buttons_tutorial_part2.fun) uploaded today ( 2007-01-20 @ ~12:00) (desc: This is part 2 of Glass Buttons Tutorial. This one shows how to add actions, mouse-over effects and even sounds to your button. I think this is very useful for new KoolMovers.).
Thanks Bret ;)
Hi all,
I have just added a new multi gallery xml-driven slideshow to koolexchange.
I was never completely happy with the last one it was too complex and you had to edit the fun file to add galleries. This is simpler by splitting it into a slide handling swf and a wrapper to select the galleries.
See it in action at the polySteel band website
There is a copy of Chris Seahorns php Twisted lister in there to help generate the xml files if you want to use it or even run it straight from the server (ta Chris)
Enjoy!
Steve
Great work, as ever Steve.
Cheers Stoke
This is a little flash toy that was supposed to be for one of those Myspace customizing sites but they never paid for it so I'm releasing the source to you my koolmoves friends.
Here's the deal
You load clockgenerator.html and select an image or swf to load into the clock, you then scale and position it. Then click the Get HTML button and this generates the needed HTML code to paste into a site. This HTML loads the clock.swf instead with the paramaters to load and scale whatever was chosen in the generator.
The list box uses an image from my site but don't use that please. This is demo only and I don't promise that image will always be there anyway.
