Oh please. At least with turning to ECMAscript Flash uses a language that most designers have at least SEEN. Most designers brown their shorts as soon as a line of C++ comes near them.

Macromedia should fix up the support section of thier site so it isn't a misery to answer questions, and write better documentation so that each new task isn't a snipe hunt.

I'm still trying to figure out why displaying custom objects' properties doesn't work when you stick them into text fields, and there have been many other cruddy omissions from the help files.

I love the help section on attachMovie when it explains that the command attaches a movie. Gee, thanks.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but personally I like my Flash the way it is, not 600 MB. :D

Flash developers don't write programs. They compose animations. For anybody who has actually developed in C++, you know that Flash and C++ are two entirely different animals. If you mix them together, the output will be a mutated baby with three heads. :eek: Integrating C++ also includes classes and all this other crap, which is almost impossible to manage when you span functions over several frames. Keeping up with all that data is a nightmare! One language is enough for me. :)

Also, the request for "multiple tweening per layer..."

Explain how you would specify two different tweens on the same layer timeline. Additionally, when two objects tween over each other on the same layer (or plane, in space) what will they do? implode? :D We don't want that! Just manage your layers efficiently and you won't have to worry about the extra effort :)

As far as truly improving Flash goes, I think they can solve some stupid interface issues they have. I liked it in Flash 4 where the Align preferences were persistent - that is, when you hit Ctrl + K to bring it up and set it to Center to Page, center your objects, then close it, the next time you open it the same settings are evident. Now, if you use that align box to align objects to the center all the time, you keep having to reset the settings unless you keep that pesky panel hanging around. Love the panels, but I'd like it if they stayed the way you set them like before.

We don't need entirely new technologies integrated in Flash, because then it becomes too easy (as well as a bad marketing move). The best sites you see will use many different tools to create cool effects, using Flash as a composition medium.

Well, some of us write programs. I just topped 55K of Actionscript in my RPG.

But I'm still glad it isn't C++ I'm doing it in.

I think it should have a setting to adjust lighting and the ability to adjust things on the z plane. 3d effects is basically what I am talking about. I agree with the open fla

I liked the interface from F4 the best.
The drawing tools on f4 are better in my opinion (but not good enough)

The actionscript is almost perfect on f5 but...

• I'd like a Z cordinate built into flash
• Dynamic lines between points (no drawing or advanced AS)
• Capability to write to a file (.txt) to the server side or client if it's a .exe
• A MUCH better drawing interface (build freehand into flash!)

be able to turn a variable or string into actionscript, this way viewers can TOTALLY customize their experience.

now, many of yall know about that non-keyboard software where u talk into the mic and it runs ur whole computer. well i have a changed version where i can do just about anything i could want without the keyboard, though i do use the mouse. now ,i think it would be pretty cool if we could somehow integrate that into flash, the problem is , when i get stuck and i start yelling at my comp, it starts going haywire. i still have a few kinks to work out.

I saw this before but I think it is important to emphasize. There are two items that are very critical and are missing:

1) Matte (or Gradient Mask), i.e. Mask with alpha channel, so you can have a mask that would allow to gradually fade out masked object. That is similar to Photoshop and After Effects.

2) Easing is insufficient to control motion. The motion should be controlled by Biezier Curves to define speed and maybe even acceleration similar to After Effects.

Direct ADO support. That way we can all connect to our Databases to Add, Delete, Update, and do all of it directly from Flash.

I havn't read the whole post, but what about background handles? I really have a hard time trying to size the canvas the way I want, with just numerals!

Also, for all of us Web Designers that charge by the hour, what aobut a clock in - clock out when your working on a project? That would give the exact amount for customers to pay! :)

GOOD GOD YES!!! i hope there's an easy way to fix this in 5...i've only been working with it for about a week now, and that is so very annoying!!

I'm thinkin they should have a customizible tab strip with the movie explorer, frame actions, fill, effects, charcter etc. in it and when you click a tab it drops down over the work area and then when you click the tab again it slides back up.

Right now i have my interface sort of set up like this but I just have all the tabs in one panel and when i ckick one it drops down then i just double click the title bar for it to go back up.

I find having them set up this way gives you much more working space and is reaitivly eaiser to use. My opinion though.

I would like the Actionscript to be updated, so that it would be compatible with opengl, or direct x7, so you could make 'true' 3d. This would also require different functions, like placing cameras, and other stuff. That would be really cool

Small things, but this drive me nuts...

-Recognize the z-index you assign to the MC on a HTML/ASP/Whatever-page.
-The ability to use Flash as a kind of overlay without having that f@#{§%g square around it.

Wow, there's some really good sugestions been added. Here's what i'd like to see, although I'm sure they've already been added many times.

- Actions Palette
similar to photoshop where you can record a series of actions and make them into one function.

- Better Player.
As most people are more into the action script side of things, make the Player able to handle actions cript better, as it can get processor intensive.

- Resizable text boxes.
Let text boxes have a resize tick box, so when importing dynamic text, it resizes to acomodate all the text.

- Spell Checker
Just cos I failed english, why should that spoil my chances of being a web designer. Would be very handy.

- Stream external Video & Audio.
Be able to have and external Video or Audio file, which can bve streamed directly from teh server. And just have place holders in the flash (for positioning). Also have a few simple controls for them (play, stop, rewind, etc) and be able to tell when you hit the end.

- Load external Images.
I know you can do this by putting the image in an SWF and using load movie, but it would be less effort (for me anyway) just to have load image.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, well i think that's about it.
I'll look forward to the release of Flash 6 and hopefully seeing everyones suggestions implemented.

2. Would be nice to be able to set the anchor point for object rotation.
3. quick switch from stage to palette editing boxes and back again -- page up and down to navigate through the library works beautifully, except for when your cursor is sitting in a palette. same goes for action script (normal mode) edit boxes.
4. volume control that i don't have to be a rocket scientist to operate.

I have an idea:

Let's have a survey for the stuff we want in Flash 6 and make an official wishlist, which we can hand over to Macromedia depending on the results

It would be entirely feasible, you know. Basically, we take the suggestions which appear often in this wishlist, and make an online survey out of it.

We split the survey in three different sections: little wishes (must-haves), normal wishes, and big wishes (unlikely to happen).

There are a lot of php scripts around that allow you to make a survey without tons of coding, so that's not a problem.

For each of the items, you can choose if you want the wish to come true or not. We can set a minimum percentage of approval, something like 70%.

If the suggestion reaches more than that percentage, we can add it to the official wishlist.

We can take the survey for two weeks and then send the accepted items, ie the official wishlist, to Macromedia. We could really make an impact here, since, after all, we are 100 000 people in this community, so that makes one heck of a powerful lobby.

What do you say people?

1* go back to the flash4 interface, give the fools the options to switch to the flash5 interface.

2* I just want consistantly, more than new feature. There are some bugs I want to see fixed before new stuff. Like move big MC (like 2000X400 MC with animated buttons.)

3* I like the Swish's add-effect button very much, please make a wizard version that can use downloadable effects. (or call it macro, whatever)

I'm a Computer Science Major and Studio Art BFA, I would say at flash4 it's already too complicated for regular folks,
either you open more flash format and let third party make good flask generator

or split the flash6 into newbie and guru interface.

4* 3D. It's time for macromedia to address the issue. Ever since Swift3d, there are quite a few 3d tools come out, some of them are just awful (cool 3d) Swift is very editable, but limited. I wonder how many people can afford the 3dstudioMax plug-in. How about buy the plug-in, release it for free and let 'em private the 3d app.

Or

make a very very simple 3d editor like swift, but with out the color reflection to the light source. You know like only one color for a flat surface, instead of gradual change. (it's pretty useless to me, I just want a small and fast 3d clip)

Or

build basic 3d into firework and people will have to buy both.

5* more feature on the shape tween, almost good enough for animation. btw I can't "brake apart" a firework object, why?

6* IE or media player embed is nice. But I rather see midi first.

7* This I would like to see as an option, not change. The time line window label as time instead of frame
(like 0 sec...2.5sec........6sec)

I always make very long flash and it's pain to move the timeline. Besides, at this labelling I can't change the frame rate of the movie without make the flash run faster.

8* doing double mask (show only the intersection of 2 layers) right now is major pain in the ass, how about just give us that.

9* If you can't save into a flash4 .fla format, at least give me a convertor to convert mac flash file to a PC .fla
I ended up doing all my flash in my slow laptop cause i have to stick to one platform.

Flash4 is designed for artists, Flash5 (and director) are designed for the geeks. Remember, always design for the artists, screw the programmers! ;)

I just want to say that even at Flash4, Flash is a great piece of software that can get into the "greatest software of all time" list (Although I'd give the "Citizen Kane of Software" title to dreamweaver) All my suggestions are come from the bottom of my heart. And... watch out for QTVR, apple is out to get you. We students know macromedia take care of us. ;)

better rendering of tweened "non basic shapes" - ie when you create gradient fills and softened edges and then try and motion tween them - especially for larger objects and if you have tried to place more than one of these on the timeline at any given instance

if you drag the frame indicator on the timeline the animation displays superbly but as soon as you publish or Ctrl+Entr it runs with the speed of a striking slug (unless you have some sort of mainframe supercomputer)

is this a flash rendering engine thing?
