Is the software to install it on your machine's install discs or do ya have to get it from Microballs?
(just wondering...)
should be on a windows 98 disc - or you could just go for apache which is free anyway.Quote:

just use apache..no need to use IIS.
You can't load PWS from a Win98 disc onto an XP machine (can you?) - that just don't sound right.
winXP Pro... go to add/remove programs, the add window's components... one of them will be Internet Information Services... or IIS for short.
you'll have access to IIS, not PWS. IIS is much better than PWS will ever be...
but if you have winXP home, then use Apache 2.0, which is better, but harder to learn, than IIS will ever be.
oh, and more secure too.
I've got XP Pro, Gerbz, and that option I do not have - that's Toshiba messing with my brain, right - and choosing not to make it available.
you can type gerbick normally... name is no longer banned...
follow me.
start -> settings -> control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components -> Internet Information Services...
there you go.
:)
i need personal web server to do homework! you guys mean i am screwed cuz i have xp home?

thanks, man - I mean gerbick
:doughnut:
I've personally not used XP home due to limitations as such. you need *.asp support? or is you're doing *.aspx (VB.NET or C#.NET) then you will still need the .NET Framework, then IIS.
look around. there are some articles for making IIS work with XP Home... it's a reg hack job, but it seems to work. use at your own risk.
btw, if I remember correctly, I recommended Pro for a lot of reasons to you long time ago... should have listened :p
ok...if its not there then pop-in ur xp cd...click on install additional componenets and then select Internet INformatio Services from there..
i personally use apache 2 on win xp pro and for FTP, i use IIS on the same computer, same operating system, at the same time..
i dont know how to work ASP on apache though..
and configuring php is kinda hard (but i did that) in apache server..
spidey, hurricane's issue is solved.
but not marcusina's... he's running XP Home. XP Home doesn't have IIS.
so....apache is what we two reccomend..
just tell me if you are going to use php heavily like making ur own forums and stuff..
if so, then the configeration will be a bit different.
You don't have to configure it differently, you just have to turn the mod on which is childs play.
care to exagerate?
Make me. Doesn't take a wiz to do it. Anyone who can read text can do it.
