So, what do all of you guys think about gender equality?
I have a debate and was just wondering if you had any opinions or links to any decent site. The topic is "It is no longer a mans world" and we are affirmative. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, I say no. Women and minorities have to work twice as hard to get half of the recognition. Those that do make it, put up with more trials and tribulations than white males... especially in some markets and fields.
However, that's my opinion. I liked my old job where it was mostly women. Workplace seemed more focused on team ideals, and less likely to have office politics.
Any good links Gerbs? I actualy agree with you but im affermative so i gotta ditch my pov for the moment.
I don't believe women and men have reached equility yet, but then again, it's all in the eye of the beholder. I think the bigger problem is equality between people of the same gender; believe me, one (wo)man isn't equal to the next. I know that all to well.
I'm going by my experience with my current clients in about seven major cities and two countries and past clients... just something I've noticed.Quote:

People get discriminated against for being coloured, a different religion, how attractive they are, where they're from, their sex.... the list goes on.
The whole sexism thing has improved slightly over the last 20 years, but I guess there's still a long way to go.
Here's a few links I found :

equality in what? I think men and woman have different skills, brain and physical abilities. Should they get equal pay? Yes. Should a woman fill a roll in a company just to make the numbers up? No, the right person for the job should be chosen regardless of there gender. These are my personal views… now get in that kitchen woman and make me a coffee! :D
Not untill God stopes making woman out of spare parts.
(Spare ribs yet.)
I personally can't stand feminists as they hardly ever have a valid point and only make a fuss cause they feel the need to...
Really annoys me...
What doy ou think?
:smoov: Robb
I think that none of us are going to get out of this world alive and what we don't use we will feed to the worms.
There's nothing wrong with femininsm, per se, but what would happen if we were to start promoting masculinism? Think anyone would show up at the rallies? Probably not (unless there was free beer and strippers).Quote:

Best thing about really radical feminists is that they rarely reproduce (well, would you want to???), dooming their subculture-type to a thankfully short branch in the big tree of cultural evolution.
And vamps brings it all into perspective.Quote:

Equality, right?
I think women are by far superior and have been so for years.
A women can basically get any man to do what she wants with the mere possibility of sex. I doubt there is one guy out there that hasn't done something stupid just to get a girls attention, or one further, to get a girl to like him.
This is one argument from a feminist I don't understand. I was talking to an activist and she says the men do thing subconsciously to degrade women. Picking up a check at a restuarant, holding the door open, pulling out a chair, can supposedly be seen as a man saying "I am dominant and you couldn't do this without me"
I'm sorry but when I leave my appartment and the doorman or doorwoman opens the door for me, I don't see it as a demeaning ritual, maybe I'm messed up... but instead of thinking "I must have been too weak to open that door myself" I think "hey thanks for getting the door".
Heck I invite anyone to demean me al they want, come to Montreal, you can buy my dinner, pull out my chair, buy me gifts, carry anything heavy I buy, open doors for me, and all those other demening things.
Also for those who say there has never been a female president, well there has never been an unmarried one either. And in most cases it's pretty clear who's wearing the pants anyway (cough.. Hilary) this is not attacking American's, I'm just using the USA because Canada and Britain have had female PM's
Don't get me wrong, I agree with equal wages and equal opportunities for everyone. But there are some people who take the issue too far.
Yes, Men and Women should be equal in many respects, but not necessarily the same.
how in the **** did this thread degrade so quickly into some downright sexist ****?
Pray share with us how this thread is sexist? (Except for vamps' pic, of course).Quote:

I think people are simply expressing their opinions. I hope you didn't see my post as sexist, As I have nothing but the highest respect for women. I was raised in a single parent home since I was five and have not even talked to or seen my father since I was 6.Quote:

My mom shares most if not all of the views I expressed, as she does, I believe that many feminists degrade themselves simply through frame of mind, by taking an innocent or meaningless gesture (such as opening a door) and viewing it as a put down.
I forget the name for it in psychlogy, but thinking that everyones actions are purposely done to insult, harm, or degrade you is a mental disorder.
here are some highlights that make me think as such:
- "some people are ugly, some arnt"
"vamps picture"
"Not untill God stopes making woman out of spare parts."
"vamps picture"
"A women can basically get any man to do what she wants with the mere possibility of sex."

Seriously though. I don't think the stereotypical librarian can seduce anybody with her sex appeal to force me to learn the Dewey Decimal system. Nor do I think that ugly has anything to do with how equal people should be treated. Smart, can do the job, don't cost me more money due to you having to take more time, I don't care how you look. Do the job efficiently... all I care about.
