hello people long time i dont come to this great forum
i gotta a question perhaps some of you can help
when the first life forms started eating each other?
and what were they doing before?
obviously if the first life forms started eating each other right after they came to life there would be no life whatsoever today
any ideas?
presumably, early life didn't "eat" as such, they just absorbed chemicals from around them. When they evolved to a stage where they did start eating, its just like now, they didn't just eat their own kind, they ate other species. And as for dieing out, I guess they reproduced quicker than they could eat each other until they reached a point where they started to evolve further into distinct predator/prey groups.
organic evolution concerns itself with the theory that all life on the planet is descended from simple primordial protoplasmic mass that would probably have first existed in water. In the beginning these kind of life forms would have subsisted by absorbing chemicals and minerals from their surroundings. It would not have been until a substantial portion of our evolutionary history had past that carnivourous life forms would have developed, but all life is simple organic, made up of chemicals and minerals, eating other life forms was simply an extension of our consumptive nature.
or, if you don't believe in evolution god dumped all the species here on earth in immutable forms and they started eating each other straight away.

given that a different specie its a different life form but its still
life ,a living being.
No, life could exsists with animals only eating plants, but preadators evolved because they can get a lot more energy a lot quicker by eating its prey then it can grazing, that extra time it used for other things...say defending its territory.Quote:

Actually you're not quite right. According to Dr. Clif Griffin and some other hardliners, before all the animals boarded Noah's Ark, before the fall, before Adam ate that damn apple, all animals were vegitarians. Even sharks and lions with their razor sharp teeth ate plants. It wasn't until man sinned that the world turned to crap and animals started eating each other. ;)Quote:

Seriously though, Aversion's post makes the most sense. Although it can't be proven, it's what most scientists believe happened, that life existed in the "primordial soup" and single celled organisms survived off the chemicals in the soup. The real question is how and why these organisms started to replicate. Richard Dawkins, the British scientist, details the concepts behind Aversion's post in the beginning of his book "The Selfish Gene" - one of my favorite books - a real eye opener.

nothing evolves to do something. evolution is not driven by a need or purpose.
evolution is really just freakish mutants being born that stomp the competition.

on a more serious note I think most 'evolution' scientists believe the ingredients for life could never have survived earth's initial formation and that at some point after it's formation the earth was hit by a meteor, or more likely several, that contained the necessary organic ingredients that, when mixed with elements already developed on earth, would spawn an evolutionary process that would lead us to homer.

evolution is more genetic mutation then that mutation becoming dominant via survival, and it spreads when it reproduces. For instance... the deep-sea angler fish probably was a mutant of the original species and it became proficient at eating, thus it lived long enough to spread that mutant gene

why you think people and animals alike prefer to live when they come to decide between life or death?
if we werent driven by the need of keeping on living there would be no evolution whatsoever for life would have ended in its early biginning
