Do it the hard way. While repeatedly reminding yourself that cigarettes are bad is a good idea, it won't work alone. You need to do something that will really make you think twice. Dip the pack of cigarettes in a mixture of lemon juice, peroxide, rubbing alcohol, and toothpaste. Go ahead and go for one. It won't be something you'll want to do again. Your brain will quickly kick the instinct to smoke.
I had the same problem with FK. It got so bad, I would often times find myself going to the address bar and clicking on the link to the lounge without even thinking about it, and I would do it repeatedly.
Clearing my history has helped a lot. ;)
No, I am going hard-core. I have 2 cigarettes in a pack outside by the ashtray. I am just going to let them sit there. I know they are there. It's better for me if I know they are there. I don't care. Yuck, they are gross... why would I want to smoke them anyways?
Smoking is boring to talk about anyways....
I have this little stuffed dog toy thing from a McDonald's Happy meal here... i shoved a pencil through it's collar. It's so cool... way cooler than a cigarette... I carry this around.. it's a toy dog / gun.
Don't let the kids see it. They're going to wonder why daddy killed Woofy.

Yeah I like that idea. Especially as non smokers don't get 15 minute breaks in the morning and afternoon...
that's a point- maybe that's how they are getting round the legality of it- saying the smoking breaks are unpaid. i like that idea :)
yeah, I have this girl working with me and she takes a 15 minute break ever hour... sometimes (when we're busy) I'm ready to kill her...

Bull***t. That's exactly what you need to do. You feel like smoking? Go to the bar and buck up. Belly up to the bar and order a beer and a shot. Hang out with all the smokers and make sure your clothes get the smell on 'em.
Next day, do the same thing again. Keep it up until you no longer want to go to the bar. The physical addiction is gone after 2-3 weeks...the trick is to kill the mental addiction during the same time frame. People stop getting "cravings" after the physical addiction is gone, but have kept themselves isolated from situations that would spark the mental one, so they are screwed.
Dont fall into the trap. Get yourself a bottle of B-Complex (to deal with the eventual hangovers) and enjoy the ride!

It took me over a year of stopping and starting and using the patch before I was finally smoke-free.
After smoking 2 packs a day for 26 years I thought I'd never be able to do it but it's been 3 years now since my last smoke.
Now I just gotta get back down to a 34 waist from my current 38+... it's like I never tasted food before...
Buy chewing gum in bulk and keep up the good fight! :thumbsup:

right on bro...you CAN do this. 2 years ago, i quit cold turkey after 10 years, and never went back (no gum, patch, etc). i told myself that i would only try to quit once, and by god it worked. you just have to be strong mentally, and tell yourself that you don't need it. the physical withdrawl only lasts a few days, so after that it's all about convincing yourself that you are a non-smoker.
check out my thread from when i quit - there's a good list here.
watch out for the weight gain, as well as the jerkiness.
also, i did mine without telling anyone at work. that way, people weren't constantly asking me how i was doing, making jokes about how i was grumpy, or ripping on me if i had failed - i really think that helped, and that's not something a book/program will tell you to do (they'll say the opposite). go public after three months.
