[show] Barbarian
Hey !
I had a bit of time off work, so I decided to brush the dust on Barbarian, and come at least with a playable "something" :)
The enemy AI is the work of Slight. the graphics are an "update" of the original game sprites. the music is a "metal" remix of the original theme, performed by a french band. the whole game is cheesy AND mean :)

The game is very short ( specially in the actual state, only one level ) - even the full game will be quite short : it is a true coffee break game :)
Barbarian is a true classic of old school gaming : if you don't know it, check :

the usual screen captures :

Awesome game! But whats the attack button? You need to add instructions that say what keys are what.
-
hey! I remember this, looks awesome Lux. Well done.
-
minor point, webpage says "untitled document"
never played the original, but reminds me of Moonstone for the amiga.
-
press and hold space and then use arrow keys to attack
-
2 minor things... I can still move after dying and when my body is being dragged away I can still move my shadow. Or is that my soul that is left?
Other than that its amazing, nice graphics. I like the little details such as the snakes moving.
-
AI should be more random maybe....
If you keep hitting on the same place you win (i tried legs)
lovely game :D

PLaying the game in such a small screen made it seem crowded. The border and title took up too much room in my opinion.
I died right when i appeared, because he chopped my head off. It took me a while to realize what happened. THere was no game over screen or play again button.

YEEEAAHHHH!!!! Commodore 64 ROOLZ!!! :-D

very nice dude. great artwork.:)
-
Space bar to attack? and the player 2? how? I stayed there for a while and never could attack LOL
Nice game, but maybe change the scenario in random way every time you play 2 players mode

I really regret not having the time to work with you on this mate ( How many years ago did we talk about that ? :) ).
Looks excellent, plays pretty damn well too. Stunning work as ever mate.
Squize.

Thanks for the nice words :)
There are definitely some bugs that I'll try to get rid off ( like the non-dying enemy, the green gobelin guy, etc ..)
as for the playing area feeling "tight" : the game really pays tribute to it's classic ancestor, so I kept the playing area, and the gameplay "as is" ... it really tries to be an "as faithfull as possible to the original" port ...
I will also make sure that I'm more precise in the "how to play" section ...
This was really an attempt at not letting this project sleep on my hardrive, and also liberate my mind from it to focus on the next project :)

To everyone: The control scheme is kind of lousy, but it is a faithful recreation of the original game's lousy controls. Gameplay was never the appeal of this game back then! It was the gore, decapitation, music, and hot chick in the background that made this game a cult classic! ;-)

that is wicked. I love it!

Loved the original game, and this is very faithfull, yet it looks better. Good job!
-
thats really cool. Nice work, that music rocks

Just found a bug, playing it again. When I still had 5 health left I died, though I could still move and was controllable. The green goblin still grabbed me though.
Here's a picture slightly too late.
