Wiiiiiiiiiiii!

So I trekked up to the Nintendo store in Manhattan after work and picked up a Wii. Nice and simple, no expensive bundles, no lines, no BS aside from NYC tax, which is just over 8%.

They've been sold out everywhere here still, but they had at least 10 behind the counter at about 6pm. I was chatting with the clerk, and he told me they get a shipment of 100 every day, and usually go through all of them by the time they close, pretty impressive. (Really nice folks there by the way.)

So, I've been having a ton of fun introducing people to Wii Sports. I picked up Wii play because it came with a controller, but it's kind of dodgy. What else is good right now that won't cost me $50 a pop? (Zelda and Metroid I'll get to eventually.)

I played RE4 on the PS2, but I heard the Wii remake was great, is it worth it? Wario Ware is on my list, as is Trauma Center. I ordered Excite Truck used from Gamefly.

I had my eye on Super Monkey Ball. Any just plain old fun games out there that make good use of the controls? Should I ditch my DS?

dont ditch the ds, its only a matter of time before there are ds/wii combo games.

And yeah, get Wario Ware for sure...Rayman Raving Rabbids is also an excellent game that makes good use of the Wiimote. I bought Monkey Ball at launch and didnt like it much. I heard RE4 was awesome as well but since you already played it like i have, i probably wouldnt pick it up.

Wii play seriously sucks- there is a reason they bundle it with a controller...

the next game i'm getting is Carnival Games...maybe for the Skee-ball alone. It just came out, and I think it's only $40.

The lightsaber game is going to be killa-dilla...whenever it comes out.

i've found rentals are keeping me pretty happy so far. I have yet to find a game that i'll go out and buy, but for a few hours at a time at $8 why not rent...at least that's my theory.

I rented Rapala Fishing this past week, and i have to say...it was a blast. I played for 2.5 hours straight without even looking at the clock. However, the fun kind of went down hill as the game is pretty repetitive. But it was fun.

I also rented madden 08. i hated madden 07 on the wii but was willing to give this a shot. It seems like the controls have been improved and the game play is a bit better. With the added online play, it definitely added to the fun, but i was killed every game i played...and connecting to players seems a bit hit and miss-the interface would connect and disconnect to players on and off for 15 minutes before i'd actually get to play a game. I may possibly buy madden.

im thinking about buying madden as well, that and metroid are two games id like to buy but cant bring my self to spend money on right now.

I'll be picking up metroid in the next couple days. Nothing else is really grabbing me atm, maybe RE4.

Elebits is a nice wiimote trainer, doesn't get impossible until about 20 levels in.
Excitetruck is probably my favorite wii game.
Rent trauma center, the difficulty shoots up pretty fast but not enough replay value to keep you hooked.

Zelda, well, just buy lefteye's copy if he ever beats it. :p

at this rate the Wii2 will be out before i beat zelda :(

my strategy is just to buy the "wii" games...why buy lesser versions of games like Madden (unless you don't have one of the other systems).

Yeah no way I'm buying guitar hero 3 for wii when I have a perfectly good ps2.

the wii version of madden has features(not just wiggling either) specifically made for the wii.

Wii Play is fun for the Pool, especially when you learn to do trick shots.

Don't purchase Trauma Center... it's fun, but it isn't worth a purchase. And whats with programmers not letting you skip sequence videos still?

I understand the use of cut scenes to act as preloaders and the limitations of RAM and disc reading speeds so this is not about that. I hate when developers are soooo proud of their little sequence that they remove the ability to skip it. I get that story continuity is important but seriously, how hard is it to make a little entry in my save game that records the fact that I've scene it 10 times now. It just ruins the flow of the game. Hell, go the extra mile and cut a small version of the scene for return visits and eventually skip it altogether.

If a player is so stupid that they can't remember whats going on or get stuck on a section for so long that they forget, your experience wasn't meant for them anyway and they represent a small number of end users.

1. If you make a game with extremely tough obstacles and one hit or fall deaths, you MUST make starting over take zero load time.

2. If you make cut scenes between long checkpoints, you MUST make the scene skippable.

Ok, so I ordered Wario Ware and Excite Truck used from Gamefly. (Actually cheaper there, we'll see how it goes.) I canceled an order for Red Steel after reading some crappy reviews, I'll rent it to try it first.

I picked up Raving Rabbids for next to nothing, and it's pretty quirky and fun, but looks like crap compared to Wii Sports, need to get a composite cable. How come Wii Sports fills the entire screen, and RR doesn't?

I think I'm addicted to Wii Sports Tennis.

I'm still addicted to Tiger's 07 PGA tour. Had a play of the 08 version the other and it was sweet!

I recently bought that Mario Soccer game (whatever it's called) and it's worth a laugh!

Seems like there should be a setting. I have a regular tv so I didn't have that problem. I love the drumming mini-game. If the songs weren't so terrible, it could have been a game in itself.

Red steel is not bad, it is also the only game I have purchased for the Wii. The swordplay leaves a lot to be desired, but I am way more accurate while shooting with the Wiimote than I ever could be with an analog controller.

I am not a fan of the click and drag loading though... Dumbest idea ever.
