Yeah, it warns them about javascript which in the case they do not have javascript enabled, they wont see that alert and probably wont see the flash file either so it wont be affective for most.
The best thing to do is create a splash page or something and have an "Enter" button or something similar.
ummmmmQuote:

No offense, but do people actually look at other websites out there?
That initial dialog box HAS to go. There is no way to skip the obnoxious intro. Intros were gone years ago. I know, I know, that's a personal opinion, but it's rare anymore.
And for the site itself, do you realize that the background image is a horrible non-tileable image, but yet you are tiling it? That just hurts the eyes.
Now, I'm not usually harsh about things, but there are just so many things blatently wrong that I have to. Just go out and look at some websites before you decide to make one.
There really isn't much I can even tell you to make it better while working with what you have to be constructive. The biggest thing, NEVER USE A DIALOG BOX LIKE THAT!
Good luck my man, you got a lot of work ahead of you if you want to be a web designer.
thanks for your opinion, i'm pretty glad you checked it out..Quote:

And the intro, isnt really so long, its a small matter of waiting 10 seconds..
I thought I had optimized that! For most browsers, viewing it in 800x600 or 1024x768 it doesn't tile! Unless you view it in full screen or sumthing..Quote:

I should have made it with just Flash, but in the beginning I wasnt so sure of pullin it off with just Flash that I used HTML and JS.. But what the hell..

lol many thanks everybody for the views!
Javascript dialog boxes are NOT to be used as information that way. For one, it locks up your browser and prevents you from doing ANYTHING until you click OK. Even if I want to open the tab up in the background in Firefox, it forces me to give focus to that window and click OK or I can't do anything else.
Optimizing for one size browser is a completely different story than making it look ok in one size and just butt ugly in anything larger.
And that small matter of waiting for 10 seconds for your intro is 10 seconds too long for lots of people. The only reason I continued is because I was reviewing it. If I have to wait to see a website, 90% of the time I'll just give up. We are in a time where people want information, and they want it now. If anything, put a SKIP button or something. Not a PAUSE button. Nobody is going to see that and think... "Oh crap, I need to go to the bathroom, but I don't want to miss this sweet intro. Praise Allah there is a PAUSE button!" It's just not going to happen. Swap that out for a SKIP button. Lost the page after that that just says ENTER. It's implied when I go to a website that I want to view it. Not click a big button that says ENTER.
If you are worried about people not being able to see your site because they don't have Flash, check out SWFObject.
And last, I'm glad you didn't make that site entirely in Flash. I could see a lot more SWISH text effects being thrown in, and just an even worse web experience.
Just do me a favor and browse the internet for 20 minutes, and you'll figure out what NOT to do for next time. If you want to look at some really great work, check out some of the award winners at The FWA.
whoaaa.. thanks for the digQuote:

I'm sorry I didn't quite get that..
I'm really quite a noob, this is my first website, and it took me a month to do it, but I really appreciate your taking time out to check it out..
thanks for the funny review and keep it coming
Thanks for not taking it very personal. I just feel that sometimes people need to be hit with something blunt and truthful instead of sugarcoating something that can't be sugarcoated. Being open minded like that will get you far.Quote:

From a programming perspective, stop using FrontPage ASAP! ;)
lol it's alrite.. I have my exams coming up in a week.. This was sort of like my diversionQuote:

Frontpage is known to produce extra junk code; as do most wysiwig (drag/drop visual IDE) html editors. Tweaking/reducing the code is generally what experienced people do.
The JavaScript popup could have been handled differently. The interface on the swish based flash just offers play and pause... no skip. All of this has been covered above though.
The look of the background and overall site leaves a lot to be desired. It looks like the stuff that Geocities was known for.
Hi...
Not bad for you're first site. If you're still learning, (and even when you start to get good), this is definately one of the best resources and places on the web to learn from.
As TACO said, check out the winners on The FWA site for inspiration. My guess is your computer science course will involve you creating sites in the future at some point so check out whats the best on the web to get some inspiration from.
Being critical, I have to agree with Gerbs...I viewed the site on a 19" monitor and you can get the background image tiled 4 times over the screen. It looks really bad like that, so if you are going to use a background image int he future, look at ways to create a image that will tile seamlessly across the screen.Quote:

Thanks yall
I changed a little bit of it, I added the "Skip" on the intro and I sort of (very very slightly sort of) resolved the tiling problem.
The thing is like I think ive said before Ive made 2 versions of my site, 1 for 1024x768 and the other for 800x600.
Previously my control was : the 1024x768 users get 1024x768 and everybody else gets the 800x600 but now I changed it a little bit and made it the reverse. (800x600 get 800x600 and everybody else get 1024x768)
This doesnt completely solve the tiling problem for the 1152xwhatever resolutions though.
But I'm curious. Can anyone who is checking it out in 1024x768 tell me if it still is tiling? Because I have a 15" 800x600 optimized monitor and it seems perfect. How do I get rid of the tiling anyway? Is there any way? And obviously this is terribly crude (making 2 versions) but I couldnt come up with any other viable alternatives (the liquid layout thing didnt really seem to work).
And lastly,
Beg to differ. Just check out the MixTapes in the Videos section and you'll know what I'm talking about. CheersQuote:

To be completely honest it's no better. I still got the annoying javascript popup, your images are still tiled and the buttons are way to beveled. Nothing is lined up right.
I will attach a screenshot so you can see what it looks like on my monitor.

P.S. Try it out in 1024x768 or 800x600, it works perfect. My monitor that I;m using doesn't even HAVE a 1680x1020.
Haha, you can't rely on a user to use a specific monitor size to view your site properly. If you wanted to get rid of the tiling effect, you can put it in some kind of bordered layout that is 800px wide or something, and have it floating center on the screen. That way it's not obscene to other users. Most people anymore have higher than 1024x768 monitors. You can't leave those out. I don't even remember the last time I saw a monitor that only went to 1024x768. MOST new ones at at least 1280x1024 for the square, and 1440x900 for the 16:10 laptops/LCDs.
it really looks obnoxious on the higher res. Not like how it is on 800x600 OR 1024x768, please check it out in those resolutions to have a worthwhile time.Quote:

Like I said, I have absolutely no idea about the resolutions you just mentioned. My monitor doesnt even have them on the options. Guess I'm old school.
