Why do you think we are here on this planet? Is it to do selfish things, or to just multiply like rabbits?
Are we here to help one another, or are we here just by mistake ?
What is the purpose for our existence?

Hehe these are fun to reply too...
Well, I myself think God put us here and we are here to live out lives and do the best we can, then die.
OKAY HERE WE GO!!!!
why are we on this earth by IFMP <<DUH!!
i think it is obvious to say that people are on this earth for a reason. but i think it is a more questionable why there is a reason and not what that reason is....
i hope you are catching my drift...
is there a meaning to life or are we just here on this planet to waste the time of something bigger then we could imagine....
i have a recurring THOUGHT/dreammm
imagine for a second a human cell.... tiny ain't it?? ok now try and imagine that the entire universe is a cell of a being that we would call huge... capiche???
we are part of something bigger.... that is the reason we are on this earth according to me .... we are a team that has to wrok toghether to make this bigger being EXIST....
but then what would that bigger being be part of??......
whhhoooooaaaaaa !!!!! you guys must think that i am high huh??? but this is an idea that i think about any day......
the point??
we are not here to live by the simple rules set by humans but by the rules that time and nature bring upon us!!!
Wow, this thread bites off alot :D
It's hard to identify a purpose if the average human doesn't accomplish many great feats in his/her lifetime. So purpose can not be measured by accomplishments.
But what then is left? It cannot be just to help others, because many do not help, and in fact hurt, others. If that is our purpose, then most do nothing towards this.
I think sometimes we attribute to much to our existence. I read the other day that there is over a 98% chance that life of our level exists elsewhere in the universe. The laws of probability state there there are many planets of our composition, and one can only conclude that the conditions would be right elsewhere.
Would the existence of life elsewhere in the universe on our level (or above) shatter our ideas of individuality or trivialize our existence? That is a hard question in itself.
Tomorrow I will post why I think we are here. I'd do it now but it's almost 4 in the morning and i've been up for two days without sleep :D
I will tell you this, after you read what I write, your life will never be the same again...
I believe we are here to help one another. To make the word a better place.
how do you know that you are helping me? how do you even know that i exist? can u be sure that the world is even real? can it not be just a vivid dream?
If the world was not real then I would still have to learn it from some place. Dreams are only things we have learned in a different state.Quote:

then how did you parents learn of god and how did you? has any actually seen god and can we trust them? i mean the brian in extremely powerful and we are capable of creating a world. hell we create games that we design in our heads.
In the beginning (no pun intended) I learned about God from information that was passed down. No I do not trust them, that I why my vision of God is different today then it was when I was just growing up.
nice to hear swishy. there are so many people out there and even on this board that never question what they were braught up to believe. philosophy is one big circle just remember that.
At some point people have to learn to think for themselves.Quote:

If they don't, then they do not really have freedom.

I'll vouch for that, doesn't anyone know that there is only one person in the world who owns a computer? that's what another thread told me..

Yeah I think God put us here to Prepare for a much better place (heaveN) ... And yes The Damn Matrix makes me think some stuff too... Its possible that were a fake world... Also Truman Show! all of you are against me! :p .. Yeah but i think its to prepare is for sa better place... And its possible that were a bacteria in a BIGGER world... No one knows we wont know until we die.. but until then live your life to the fullest :D
Also ... Here is a little imformation.. About there being Alien life.. Because some where in Mexico there are Mini Pyramids... and if you look from above it is the PERFECT alignment of the Solar System! how would they know what the Solar System looked like 10000000000 years ago??? We just learned how to get in space what? 100 years ago?? Damn.. That show that there were Aliens on earth... Also on all the like Egyptian Tombs... It shows people in flying machines and its got like 1000 arms working different controls... How would they know about that?
I believe that we are not alone... I believe in Aliens and UFO's .. I personally think Aliens are trying to help us .. Advance in technology quickly... Because its quite weird how EVERYTHING was made in the 1900's All Technology was made in 1900's...
we're on earth, cause if we were in space, we'd probably explode!
LoL! haha We'd explode... Thats True!
I don't know why we are here, but I'm pretty sure that it is not in order to just enjoy ourselves.
SwishY, I think that is exactly the reason an individual is sent to earth. An individual enjoying life is, I think, a very good reason to be here. Mankind on the other hand, is probably here for some good reason, which I don't even want to ponder.
Sound bytes:
The sun is the right distance from earth or visa versa.
Comets smashed into the earth giving us plenty of liquids.
These liquids contain other matter slowly changing.
Life
If you look at an atom you will find that it has a kind of life, an energy giving itself specific properties to work in.
Electron
Neutron
I think of atoms as a kind of living thing??? Don’t hold me to this as I’m still struggling over this.
I can hear you all know…life has to be able to reproduce!.. right?
Who knows!
You cant kill energy so maybe the bits that make up an atom could be considered immortal.
Any way the root. Of life is to telltarget goto atom001 and join< if atom001 ooppps!!
Ill think about it….Your confusing me.
I should be learning my action scripts guys,
What are you like with all these deep questions?
Reality is stranger then fiction.
More deeper then deep and more playful then a kitten.

Oh so you think that being here is like some 'prize' that we get? I think this is a very selfish and self serving way to act. I hate to break this to ya, but some people wish they weren't here...Quote:

I'm sorry if it came out wrong. I didn't say anything about life being a prize. I was asserting that the best thing that an individual can do with his or her life is to enjoy it. And face it, being selfish and self-serving is an adaptive trait that all humans are born with. There's nothing wrong with a little selfishness. You can't get rich or have a beautiful girlfriend without pissing somebody off. Am I right?
we are here so that our DNA can carry out its programming
to learn flash! :D and make millions of $/£ (hopefully)
not really sure.......
Nope.Quote:

Well, do you have anything else to say? My opinion might not appeal to you, but I'd like to hear yours.

There is only one reason that I have ever heard that makes sense as to why were are all here. It is also the only reason which truly explains such things like why bad things happen to good people.
That reason is to LEARN.
Learning is a good reason to be here. But I can relate that to my previous argument that the best thing one can do with his life is to enjoy it. Discovering new things and ideas increases our understanding of the world and therefore gives us the ability to increase the quality of life. So I come to the conclusion of learning makes life more bearable, and therefore let's us enjoy it as much as our knowledge let's us. And bad things do happen to great people, and I don't think that there is a specific reason for that. Bad things happen to bad people as well. Good things happen to both bad and good people.
Maybe I should rephrase that. We are here for our souls to learn. And yes it does explain why bad things happen.Quote:

So go ahead and explain it! I have no idea what you mean when you say "our souls", how can souls learn? Cognitive psychology has shown that the only thing capapble of learning is the brain. So you're going to have to explain your belief system before I can undertand your theory of "soul education". Do you mean our souls are reincarnated in other forms but retain knowledge learned in past life experiences?
Cognitive psychology is man made and self serving.Quote:

Heh, the idea of "souls" is also man-made and self-serving, my friend.
First of all everything in life needs a name or label.Quote:

Second of all how is having a soul self serving? You really lost me there.
Well you lost me back when you said that self-educating souls are the reason mankind inhabits the earth. The statement: "I have a soul" equates with "God loves me". Its just not provable.
Man created such supernatural ideas to fulfill the desire to understand. Religion is the answer to all of those unanswerable questions.
Therefore the idea of souls is man made, as is God, and self-serving in that it provides an assurance that somebody's making sure that Mankind is going where its supposed to go.
I do not equate having a soul with the idea that God or any one else loves me.
Why not?
Because they are two totally seperate things.Quote:

You're also using the term 'Love' which is also man made.
That's what I'm trying to point out. All these terms and ideas are man-made. And about your computer peripherals having relationships... well, that's just weird. When I said having a soul equates to the love of god, I meant that they are both man-made and self-serving.
And you're avoiding my questions. I want you to explain what why you think we're here. I know.. to learn. But elaborate, I'm not understanding what you mean exactly.
What exactly are you supposed to do with your God, if not .. love him?
I agree with this. Religion is the answer to all. Thats some of why I dont believe.. its just too convient.
