If you just give it a few more months, Santa will be calling him back to the North Pole and he wont have quite so much time on his hands.:D
I agree but why didn't you email him instead of posting it here?
That's the way I'd have chosen, and then at the same time I would have posted a thread saying that "replying with one word to every thread is spamming and not appreciated...blabla" in common.
hehe
just one of my opinions again but nonetheless I bet you have discussed things like that with other mods and therefore everything is cool.
I haven't seen it really but if it was the case I agree to the spamming thing .
no biggie at all I guess :D

See wiz, thats the exact type of answers that RazoR is talking about. One line, no point responses.:D I feel that Wouter is simply trying to speak his mind in whatever way he can. I believe that he was ignored when he was new and this is his subconscious way of getting his name out and being noticed. So let him down easy and whenever you see him, take him by the arm and ask him, "How can I make You feel better about yourself today?". He should perk right up.Quote:

oh RazoR the Bunnies are waitin for you ....look outside see 'em they're evrywhere
i think the young caper wouter is infatutated with his post tally, it has gone up 200 in seemingly a couple of days, im not sayng your an oaf wouter but razor is very correct, you may say your 13 and think its an excuse but i know your a clever little kid (your english is very good for your age)
ok thats all i have to say, ciao
Is there a recommended message length for this board? Are all of our posts supposed to be meaningful and useful in the coffee lounge? I think some people such as wouter might just want to be included in all of the conversations. And I think a lot of people post messages here just to see their post count grow. I think this board might be boring without some of those people.
I don't see where wouter has any real long posts, but I couldn't find any one word ones either. I found a bunch of other people guilty of the one word post, or no words at all but not wouter.
Did you already delete all of his short posts?
Maybe I just didn't look hard enough, but I definantly didn't notice or get annoyed by it.

this is a problem which a few of you obviously take lightly, but I can assure you that when somebody is posting for the post count or just to be there on every thread it becomes very annoying.
wouter is not the only one guilty of this type of behaviour.
One way of dealing with this behaviour is to reduce the offenders post count back to zero. This often discourages stupid posts like the one wouter made on the thread where the MM community dude was introducing himself to us. A civil post deserves civility in response, not a stupid joke from somebody who hasn't yet learnt the boundaries of his adopted community.
Even the coffee lounge is not a place for crap, it is a place for discussion about stuff that won't fit any of the other help boards. We do say talk about anything here, but we don't say talk about nothing, just for the sake of talking and seeing your own voice in print.
see, no one liner from me on this thread.

I think you mods do a great job of keeping things undercontrol. I just made my post because it singled someone out. I've never heard anyone complain about this. (not that it hasn't annoyed a lot of people, I've just never heard anything)
I think when you single someone out like that it makes everyone else look innocent. If this is a problem (which it must be to get this kind of controversy), post a thread to everyone.
There's only one solution. Eliminate post counts. What's the point of them anyways?
You could also eliminate all the "bonuses" for achieving a certain number of posts. I'll admit I've taken advantage of them, but I wouldn't give a fig if they were discontinued.

The points that Razor and David made there apply to all of us here !
Wouter was 'singled out' mainly cos he was warned via email a few days back which didnt seem to make much difference. Im not referring to posting one liners (you cant expect to always post an essay to every topic here) but replying to every post/thread is spamming and is annoying :(
I think itd be a good idea when somebody goes on a posting-binge to take away his post count (probationary status) and wait till he/she cools off .

Odd.
its not just a matter of how many words and I will delete (without comment or notification) further posts here on this thread that do not relate to the topic of this thread.
This is important and jokes are not appropriate for such a topic.

May I suggest changing the title of this thread or starting a new one? It is unfair to single out wouter publicly.
yeah wouters constant spamming DOES seem like he really wants to be 'one of the gang' or trying to make sure everyone diverts their attention to him.Well since he as told by email.. i think the next thing to do is just warn him that he could be temporarily banned if he doesn't 'cool off'. He's just 13 so i think all he need is just a caution. i know you're reading this wouter...so i hope you're gonna do the right thing and lay off a little.
it's not we don't like seeing you post in every thread. most of us do that
it's just that we don't wanna see you posting about stupid things and try and get the conversation nowhere. we don't wanna see you post in every thread when you know there is absolutely no need for that. Just give yourself time. your only 13...just take it easy and in time you'll do well here :)...right now...you're being in the news for the wring reason...try no to let it happen again...:)
peace buddy
and i hope better sense prevails
If I were the originator of the thread I would comply with your request. As I am not, the best action for you is to contact razormedia with your suggestion.Quote:

I have a policy of not publicly interfering in other moderators actions or decisions.
As Aria said, wouter was emailed about this some days ago and that seemed to make no difference, hence the posting here.

just fixed a spelling mistake :)

I am guilty of this also, late at night when i should be sleeping and none of my friends are on AIM, and other such boring times. I think you just made a note of wouter publicly because he was on the board at a calm time, and when you all logged on, his name was down the entire right hand column.
I think the coffee lounge is a place for crap, and if it bothers you, go help someone out. Maybe you should make posts in the lounge not added to your post count, because everyone seems to take post count as a sign of respect. The lounge would stop being "Spammed".
We had the same problem with Capty, but that was really bad and pissed everybody off, but I'm not even mildly peeved about Wouters posts. The *SmacK* wars and such are entertaining, and how he changes his title every week. Wouters a cool guy, don't bust him.
this is an age old topic is it not?.. probably the 100th of these types of threads i've seen here in the CL since i started darkening the door here at FK not so many months ago. I just felt like i'd pop in my 2 cents and see what kind of waves it made :D
i think that the CL by nature is a place not to be taken seriously. our biggest poster theEnigma has 7000 posts of which i would imagine less than 10% have ever been made anywhere else. and usually his posts are some playfull ribbing at jezza who's post quality is pretty much a mirror image of Nigmas. i'm not stating this to knock them down or even say in any light that i think what they do is inappropriate, i have laughed until i cried from posts made by both of them and enjoy reading just about anything they do post. my point is this... i think that regulating the content of posts is great, i appreciate the fact that there isn't porn or foul language everywhere. this is a great place to come and it's largely because of the great mods we have here. BUT.. i have thought from the beginning that you guys should lighten up a little with guys like wouter. so some young teenager finds some friends to chat with online and goes bezerk for a while, it usually passes and everyone is still happy. but everytime i see a mod take some course of action like deleting threads or posts by such a user it creates more strife than it's worth and people leave with hurt feelings. then of course for days there's posts about how mean the mods are by others who are mad about the situation.
in a nutshell, my opinion is to just let it go. as long as wouter is not breaking the rules by posting offensive material let him post whatever he wants. it will pass :D
i'll end this lenghthy ramble with this... don't take me too seriously, like i said i think that most of you do a great job as mods. i won't go around flaming or causing a stir whatever you decide. i just felt a need to voice my opinion. :D
mac8,
thanks for your input. hopefully you are correct. And even more hopefully wouter will read this and take something from it apart from the fact that it seems like we are all against him.
I also have fun here and enjoy many of the posts, one-liners or no. Some people just take it to extremes that stop being funny.
I would also like to see people using members names instead of shortening them to "niggles" etc. If the member wanted to be known here as "niggles" rather than enigma, he would have used that as his member name. Some respect for others never goes astray in this world and is good practice to try it out here to see how differently you are treated if you respect others, their names, their opinions, their beliefs.
david p.
But remember, some people like their names changed. TheEnigma even had a thread of acceptable nicknames. Vampstko has reffered to himself as Vamps. LanSite is often know as Lanny. Wouter999 is known as wouter. Me, i'm either mrxy or *grrrrrr* to capty99, mrxypawn. So nicknames aren't bad. This is a community, and in a community there are friends and aquaintances. Eventually they begin calling them shorter names. Now if someone said they didn't want to be called a certain name, I would respect that, but if they didn't care I would user the name that showed the most affection towards that person.Quote:

i am more concerned when the nick is one that could cause offense due to cultural or belief systems.
An example -
a recent thread used '******' as a reference to enigma. That is so offensive to some people and some thought should be made in cases like this. ****** is an incredibly offensive term to a non-white american or an Australian native person and anyone else who thinks about the cultural connotations and baggage that goes with that word.
david p.
not really sure how demoralising is it to call someone another way....niggles....yeah it sounds cocky but i think they should personally tell the person if they seem to not like being called that way. i call enigma nigs just as i would call any of my friends :) If anyone means to be funny by reffering to someone by another name.....that should be stopped :)

I agree, I think nicknames are a mark of friendliness not disrespect. However, you can go overboard with nicknames. Such as someone referred to me as Digitaldick. I didn't care for that nickname much and I let it be known. But there was no harm. I think nicknames do more good than harm. They bring us closer together and make us feel like we're part of something.
That is exactly my point. I would never use a nickname that would be offensive at all to anyone. That Nigma nickname, OMIGOSH:eek:! How dare someone! And I couldn't believe that DigitalDick nick a few weeks ago, and i told people to stop using it.
mrxypaxn™
the reference to enigma was made by someone who probably was not aware of the cultural baggage involved due to his country of origin, and an email to him to make him aware was all that was needed in that case.Quote:

I think the name thing is not reason for this thread.
All that I am saying is that Wouter by this time might not feel comfortable posting on the boards anymore, since this thread wold have embarassed everybody.
So in case wouter was not contact through email before I think it is not very fair to post a name out in the most targeted CL saying that this and that by exactly THAT user was incorrect.
Please I'd like to see an compromise between you as mods and wouter as member, him seeing that his posting might have been inappropriate and by the mods that it should have all went thru personal email first (if it was not the case).
let's see a shake hands, I'd advice anybody to close this thread and open up a "Shake hands" thread wheres wouter officially being able to say that "yeah my posting was ridiculous at some point" and by the mod(s): "yeah i should have contacted you through mail first etc..."
You think we can have that now?
iCEBERG
ice: He was contacted by mail first by several mods. No one wants to be-little wouter or make him feel unwanted at all, I am sure all the mods in this thread are happy to have him as a fellow member. This thread is just a step taken in logical order to get wouter to tweak one aspect of his current behavior on flashkit, that aspect being his superfluous posts that continue to go on. Many members have had this problem in the past, myself and a few others *coughTheEnigmacough* ;) included, most of these members saw the err of their ways with a simple e-mail, for whatever reason wouter has not (yet). There isn't anything innately wrong with this, but it would rouse the appropriate mods to take their attempts to the next level (i.e. this thread).
Now perhaps certain other steps could have been employed before starting this thread, such as cutting his post count, downing his status to probationary, or getting an admin to send him an e-mail (which is not an easy task at the moment as they are all quite busy with fk1), but whether or not this was the next best step is purely a matter of opinion, razor's opinion was that this was the next best step, and in this case I agree with him.
Wouter: Again, I am sure that no one wants to make you feel humiliated or unwanted, you just need to watch the unneeded posting ;). The flashkit community is getting huge, and I find it hard enough to come back and weed through all the good "meaty" threads and replies since they seem to disappear by the time you hit refresh (and yes, some of yours are included in the "meaty" category :)). Imagine if everyone went through and felt the needed to put "yep", or a quick little one liner into every thread they read, all the threads would get really big really quick, and it would make the coffee lounge all but unusable. Understand? It is not because razor and the other coffee lounge mods like throwing their weight around, or don't like you, it is simply to try and keep the lounge as fun and friendly as it currently is.
Take care, and see you around :D

p.s. - Haven't been around much in a while, how is everyone doing?

I agree with those that want to somewhat control the quality of posts, because if they go unconrolled the quality of the boards will go spiralling downward. Want proof? Take a look at were-here, that place has turned into a massive spam fest recently and they have no where near the number of members that FK has. This kind of thing is going to happen in a community as large as this, it's up to us to remember that this is a great learning and educational community and we should do everything to preserve its quality.
wouter and others,
I did not 'single out' wouter to embarass him or make him feel awkward. Its just that he has been mailed and we were unsure if he was receiving them. This post was a relatively calm and rational post merely trying to influence wouter into thinking. By the rules, he is not doing anything wrong, he doesn't post warez or porn etc, its just that the need to reply to every post shouldn't be there. If its attention wouter wants, he has it.
I suppose it could be deemed unfair to post this entirely at wouter as there are other members guilty too. The problem here is that great threads slip to page 2 after about half an hour because the members 'lounging' are not interested in them. By the time, someone who might be interested in the thread comes along, its gone to the nether regions of page 2.
So, in conclusion, (and this is to everyone, including us mods!), please do not feel you have to reply to every post, silly posts are fine but lets not go over the top. If a thread is serious, lets debate seriously, if its stupid then fair enough, lets have a decent mix though, its a shame to see so many good posts never be replied to because someones having a smackwar or whatever.
If I have upset anyone, it wasn't my intention, I apologise. I do not like over-modding as much as you lot, lets keep the lounge a happy place :)
Titled changed.

oh sorry...I mean your fundamental facilities are sufficiently sophisticated to embasenate your own philosophy....is that better.:D
I'm sorry I didn't reply to this thread yet. I was out this morning, and yesterday.
I like posting, and I like to hang here. The 'one word replies' aren't all that bad I think. If they can bring a smile to your face, they aren't wrong, they are amusing, hilarious sometimes. I got the email, and I did change a bit. Also I've started to use the computer less. But still this is my favorite place on the internet, but hanging with my friends is better.
I don't post, or not anymore, for the sake of increasing my post count. That is not an issue anymore. I have a large number there, and I think it's large enough. No longer do I have the urge to get to a major number, I've passed that. If I see the oppurtunity to make a joke or something, I do it.
For instance the smacking stuff against Vampsy, or teasing Jezza is fun, and I know when they don't like it anymore, then I stop.
I don't feel awkward by this thread, but I do feel the exception Razor makes. I am not the only one, but Razor points to me. That action makes me feel a little... uhmm... Abandoned. It feels like a friend has left me. That is most definatly not a pleasant feeling.
The CL is a place to relax - life is stressful enough as is, I don't want to go into a panic everytime I post here,
because someone might not like my opinion. If we had to keep everybody happy boards like this wouldn't exist.
If someone posts oneliners in the general help or any other serious forum - warn him, close his thread or ban him, but not in the CL.
Smack! Get out of it man, nobody left you.Quote:
