Late last night around 2am pacific time my friend James and i were talking about sports, outa no were the subject of football in the olypics poped up. I never realized it but the olympics have never hosted football as a sport.
I belive football would be a great sport because if u look at it many countries have there own kinda of league. Theres
----America with the NFL
----Canada with the CFL
----Europeon countries like Germany England etc.... have the Europeon NFL
----Australia has Rugbie.
My opinion on who would win this sport is tough because the Australian Rugby players are realy athletic and tuff.
Then the American NFL players are fast athletic experienced and tuff.
Then Europe they are more of a newbie to the sport in my opinion they could win a few games but not alot.
The you look at the Canada with the CFL they are fast good and supriseinly tuff.
Also take this into consideration people will say that football is to violent that the players will get hurt. Go look at Gymnastics or track in feild more athletes are hurt in those sports in 1 meet then in a full week of football. So what do you think about this should football be an olypic sport if so who do you think would win also do you agree that football isto violent.
Peace Out

Hey man, don't forget, the Olympics DOES have football.
It's just that we in the US are the only country that calls it soccer. hehe

Oh no! Maughrim is recovering his well known flaming attitudes!!! The storm is getting closer... ;)
BTW: the thing is, en Europe we are not that interested in football. You see, to introduce a new sport requires time. We've got a football team in Barcelona (Barcelona Dragons), but it doesn't look like is gonna be for the masses 'till a few hundred years. Our national sport here is soccer, which is got a tradition like baseball in the US...
Barca, barca, BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRCCCCCCCCAAA!
-
How long have you guys had the dragons? I was at barcelona a couple summers ago and could have sworn I saw some adverts for the dragons, mabey I was wrong...
Regardless it is a beutifull city, be proud :).
-
I'd say five years more or less... I do wanna go one of this days to have a look, but appart from soccer I do prefer rugby. De only way I enjoy football is in the highlights.
And thanks for the compliment. I am proud. Where are you from?
-
European football is alot faster then it is here in the U.S. i have noticed ive watch a few telivised games and they move fast short hudles good plays very exiteing. I dont like soccer that much but here in the U.S. soccer is portraid as a week sport but thats how we were brought up here so im not saying it sucks ive just never gotten around to watching a full game i get angry before its over.
Peace Out

I could care less about the football in the Olympics.
But I'm so totally going to miss the Olympics when they are over. Never watched them and payed so much attention to all the people and so many events in past Olympics.
I've been in my apartment all day, and back and forth from my computer and the TV. I've had the TV on for the last 12 hours, honestly.

My wife is an Athletics fan, so we normally have the TV on as well. We've been checking olympics.com as well for results, and I can say I am greatly impressed by the site, even when it's not flash powered.
We are waiting for Jonathan Edwards to do the triple jump, since he lived in the same village of my wife (Ilfracombe, Devon, England).

In response to the subject of this threa, I don't really think American football is ready to go into the Olympics yet, as it is still not a global sport (give it a few years).
I have been watching the Olympics more than usual this time as well, probably because when the last Olympics was going on, I was 15 and more worried about getting a car than anything else;)
Oh, and I am from Texas :). Although it is not near as breathtaking a view from the plane (north Texas looks like a huge game board), it is just nice to be driving down the highway and have a view so flat that you can see the curve of the Earth. Anywhere else I go I begin to feel claustrophobic after a couple weeks :D
-
A friend of mine has just enroled in the marines and he's been in Texas training for a few weeks... now he is off to Okinawa! The impression he gave me about it was more or less the same: huge open spaces. Sounds nice... :)
-
Tiefight, where in Texas are you? I think I spoke to you before about you being in Texas, but I can't remember.
I am in Arlington.

NO.
Olympic sports are made to be World Wide not sports only played by a select few. First off Americans would have no real competition and we all know that. Aussi rugby players would never degrade themselves that low to wear pads. And the name is taken.
-
If the americans get "football" into the Olympics, the Irish should get Gaelic football. Aside from being a real game, we would always win because no one else plays it either.
-
Gaelic footbal??? How do you play that?
I don't mind any type of football, as long as there's no cricket. I still don't get it. Watched it a couple of times and really made the effort but got so bored that I just switched off about an hour later.

Cricket has to be the most confusing game I have ever seen In my life. I have watched it for hours and had people explain it to me but I am still lost.
-
With cricket there's just one general rule: never forget the tea break, especially when playing in England ;)
-
Don't forget the Biscuts. Yum.
-
wicked :D
That's prob the only great thing about it, is that you can take as many breaks (food, drink, nap...)as you like and you'll hardly miss a thing!
