Swearing on Flashkit

Whilst some moderators allow a small amount of mild cursing and swearing (at their own discretion), lately, a lot more stronger words are creeping through. Even when starred out, these words are not appropriate.

Examples include 'f*ck, wa*ker, ba*tard' etc.

Even if a letter(s) are censored, the word is not appropriate for this board.

Please don't use inappropriate language on the boards, they are G-rated. Some swearing is allowed on were here and if you feel you can't post here with swearing, please feel free to go shout your head off at another board.

I think that with a larger number of wh members here recently (who are allowed to swear on their own board), we are slipping into bad habits and ways.

hm Razor, I think it's not fair blaming it on WH, I seen the swearing and accepting of **** way longer ago than that.

It just slipped a bit, and nothing to worry about. I agree with you that it should not be accepted, but it's not as easy as saying that WH'ers influenced FK lately with 'their' way/policy/habits of language.

bastard was 'common' a long time now. Also the other words you mentioned. It's the FK community and not any invasion of some WH'ers.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming that with an increasing number of wh visitors, fk is going downhill, far from it, I actually like the way the wh boards let you swear.

After reading my post above it does sound like I am blaming them all (sorry wh peeps!), I am not, I am simply posting this thread as a reminder that although starndards may have slipped slightly, it is an intention of the moderators here to get them back on track.

I don't think that Bruce is blamingt WH member per se. merely using them as an example.

WH has titles for it's members that include the word "****er", that word is not excepted on these boards and the WH members (myself included) were discussing that fact at length in a certain thread.

It's just an example, not an approximation of blame.

I shall endeavour to wash my mouth out with soap between boards ;)

Personally, I think that is worse than any of the others because it is deliberately getting round the system.

Razor - this thread is in danger of becoming a 'fest' to see how many times various expletives as mentioned can be typed before the ban comes into effect.

I count six posts so far with the draeded asterisks or uncensored words.

any hoo... yes the swearing on this board is too much ..this is a G rated board..and there other forums that are more adult oriented. there are tons of ways to sneak in a swear word as members in this forum have shown. but the new admin has also shown the will not tolerate ..people who break the rules.... so kids lets make this easier on the mods and admins...and maybe jezza...nah

Good point, Jamble. Think before you post - does this really add anything to my post or to the conversation at large? I know I personally respect the opinions of someone who can make a well-formed argument or intelligent statement without having to resort to crude 4-letter words, and summarily dismiss those who do riddle their statements with expletives quite often.
If you're having trouble putting together a sentence without the word "F***" in it, for heaven's sake, get a thesaurus.

quite frankly, sualdam is right. Is it any suprise that decent members leave in droves when most of the lounge threads end up like this shambles.

Quite frankly, sticking swear words in and testing how far you can push the moderators is a bit sad. I have seen far too many good moderators leave the coffee lounge as they can't be bothered anymore knowing that nearly every thread degenerates into this. I welcome new members and old members and have always actively argued against closing down the lounge when it has been suggested, now quite frankly, I couldn't care less about it and I'm not the only one.

Can we please just take a second to think before posting, if it doesn't add anything to a thread, don't post it!

Basically, its not WHICH words you use, its the WAY you use them. Now the second I post just that, I know some of you are going to say, "What is the elegant way to say the f word?" well, there is no way. Some words will automatically get you in trouble, so just dont do it, or you will be warned, and if you do it again, we will ban you. Easy as that

I think that there should be a clear outline of what G rated actually is.

I mean flashkit probably covers, what, like 25-100 different countries, each with different definitions of a "G" rating.

I mean in Canada we can show someones "bottom" (that's the G rated word) on TV and get a PG rating, whereas in US they can only show 2/3 of someone's bottom for a PG rating.

Topics like Marijuana, Tobacco, The Death Penalty, etc. were all facinating debates (at the start at least) however none of those topics would be discussed with a small child or ever be considered G rated.

Besides aren't you suppose to be 13 or older anyway to post on these boards, maybe the rating should be upt to PG-13 (parental guidance suggested for those under 13).

Here's something for you to consider:
The movies "Stuart Little" and "Harry Potter" are rated G in most places. The Simpsons are rated PG to PG-13/14 in most areas, shouldn't this be at least a PG forum??

Your points are very valid, and I praise you for keeping this in a good tone, and not using any language, but the fact of the matter is, the topic is not up for debate. It is the way it is, and it will stay this way. There is a certain level of maturity most people would like for this site to maintain, and the moderators and admin are seeing that level of maturity slipping, so RazoR decided to speak up and say something.

just curious... wat's the youngest age here?

since u guys said we're not supposed to swear to protect the younger members, wouldn't it be funny if we find out that the ones who did most of the swearing are the very ones we're trying to protect? hehehe...

so far, from all the posts i've seen here, it's hard to tell the older from the younger except for some of the topics of the thread or point of views in some issues but that's all... maybe coz kids these days are rather precocious...

13 is the youngest allowed here.

FK has a no cursing policy... well, whatever is censored, don't misspell or tiptoe around it.

yep, I'm guilty of it too. but Razor has a point. It has increased lately.

I didn't mean to debate whether flashkit should be G rated or not, I am debating whether flashkit is or ever has been G rated.

To me "G" rated is a very very low rating, In Canada I think it is the lowest rating besides "C" (children under 5)

[Ratings can go from C-G-C8-PG-PG-13-PG13 Strongly Suggested-Teen-R-NC-17-MA]
I mean some childrens cartoons aren't even rated G they are rated C8 (children over 8) because of cartoon related violence.

I don't think that people should swear heavily on flashkit, or try and get around the system by putting s*t*a*r*s in their words, but sometimes people come to the lounge to speak their minds and we can't always do that with a G rating.

I started the Death Penalty thread last week, and other than a fight over misquoting (between mods I believe) and one remark on genacide, It was a very clean professional debate, where both sides were fairly argued.

However I would never talk to a small child about the Death penalty, no matter what.
