Hey guys! I just wrote something up this morning that I thought you might want to see. I was just thinking to myself, how would I go about making it appear that bullets hit a wall instantly, so I did it. Its some pretty crazy code:
The Nameless Uzi Game
I'm in the process of adding a pistol in the other hand that you'll be able to shoot in a different direction than the uzi. It'll be cool.
Oh yeah, a couple cool features:- no hitTest. thats right, pure math baby!
- gun isn't 100% accurate. there is a cone of bullets

A & D to move
Hold spacebar to freeze pistol position
Akimbo Styles
The bullets off of the pistol aren't quite working yet, but they will be soon. Soon I'll add some immobile enemies to mutilate.

ever play the game abuse? it was a dos game. was pretty sweet. could make it so the arrows move and mouse aims the gun, pretty sweet.

I don't understand. My game is just like that.
the "A" and "D" buttons move the character (art is still in production, heh). I chose to use these over the arrow keys so that you can press the spacebar to freeze the pistol.

I cant view the file, but I was about to program a similar sounding thing tonight...
The psuedocode is in my head, I cant see it to be that difficult.
Did you do it by stepping thru points, like moving it thru its lifespan in one frame? Or did you just check to see if an intersection would occur at a specific spot.. eg. if your checking horizontal collision, you step through the possible objects it could collide with, and then just see if the bullets path would intersect?
I beleive the second would be the better one.. and if you restrict the firing to horizontal it would be stupidly easy to implement.

Actually, interesting that you say that, because I tried the first method in the beginning, but it would crash Flash player. While loops on an enterFrame aren't good. ;)
So I went with the second method. Its line to line collisions, but not restricted to the horizontal (so you have to test for coincident or parallel lines).

Oh.. and one thing... Put your mouseMove code also in mouseUp code && your spaceKeyUp code, cause you can have the pistol pointing in the wrong direction even when space isnt down.

The Feds actually. I have a storyline. See, you're this drug dealer. While out of your apartment, the feds bust your partner and take your stash. You're not too into this, and you're going to do something about it, by killing hundreds.

Ooh, I like that drug dealer part (being from the Netherlands).
So will it involve a bit of moving around then also? (like a nice intro movie showing you entering your appartment, discovering partner & (more importantly) stash are gone, you heading out on the street, shooting feds whilst making your way to the feds headquarters to finally get back the dope?) (like I said, I am Dutch and that would be a nice reward at the end of the game ;) )

Its not just going to be weed. I'm thinking that they'll be drug related powerups. And yes, moving.
Meth - Speed Increase
Weed - Better Aiming (I always find my motor skills are great when high)
LSD - I dunno, just some cool hallucinations?
Heroin - Armor Up (you can take bullets and not even feel them, haha)
Bags of Chips - health

have a 2 health bars. a normal one and one for the munchies, if you cant get some food you die
personally never done drugs :rolleyes:

no pothead would go and kill random cops for missing weed
and if cops take his stash they're taking him with it
better make an escape from county jail scenario
and the graphics suck :p
i like the shooting however

whoa, that was pretty harsh fospher. if i were to guess, i would say that you're getting a bit defensive. for what reason?
had you read, this isn't just about weed. if you knew many drug dealers, you'd find that the bigger ones tend to diversify. this guy is seriously ****ed up on meth and heroin. i think he'd want his stash back. and he was out of his apartment when the cops came. they took his partner who he has to rescue.
so is my game realistic? no... but who cares. the storyline makes enough sense to work, so don't get all teary on me baby boy.
and about the graphics, i just threw some stuff in there to test my idea. i'm a programmer, not an artist. i'll definately spend a bit of time on them when i continue.

nothing new to me. some of my best friends buy elbows every once and awhile, and i used to grab off of guys who dealt x and cocaine in weight, seriously.
but i rarely do them anymore, and i always stuck to the light stuff.
and no problem. i didn't take offense.
