Can we have a monthly competition design task? I.e. this format:
Mod sets theme, rules and programs etc. Gives deadline, then makes thread sticky... eveyone then posts their submissions in the same thread, and the winner to be judged by the three mods?
Sound good?
I think it would give these kids some experience in actually solving design problems rather than being unrestrictive in tennis...the winner could even be posted in the FK gallery section?

Good idea... a couple of weeks ago, I opened a dialogue about something like this with one of the mods and that mod was gonna look into it. So the idea is being tossed around anyway.

Mark is iCEBERG on these boards although he's not been around much in recent months which is a shame. Zach is his partner in crime. They were the ones that set up and ran designmarathon :)Quote:

I dont want to be a spoilsport, but this would never work. There would be 70,000 newbie subbmisions, and the veterans would never compete. Judges like gerbick would be corrupt, and everything would be ruined.
So? People need to learn, and just because people are new to the forum dont mean they're not l337 designers ;) ... I just think there are lots of battles going on, with no real winner and no challenge.. Id be up for helping out if needed
I agree with that some of the battles have no point..or end. I mean you can volley all day...and when the other person only grabs another image..and mask a little of yours over it....there willbe no end.

I like the idea, I mentioned before here the 'visual response' series on australianinfront.com.au where members send in their images (sometimes flash too) in response to a single word theme such as 'refugee' for example.
There's also the idea of posting an image and having people use that in anyway they like. I personally prefer the former idea of working to a theme.
I'd certainly take part, time permitting.

I encourage people to check out the visual response stuff on australianinfront, there are some great designers who are memebrs of the site. One I particualarly liked was titled 'backyard', it's something that sounds prosaic but it produced tonnes of different things because we all have very different backyards... given FK's more international membership i think we should be able to do even better :D
that's it. themed battles would be better. though australia in front, if i remember, asked the people to introduce an element for the next one to use in their image, we could just forget that part.
