Multiuser whiteboard
Has anyone seen or done anything like a multiuser whiteboard that many users can log in and chat.
There will be also a whiteboard that people can draw or illustrate anything on it that other people in the chat room will be able to see it.
Any example or link to this are appreciated.
Do you think this can be achieved by doing just PHP polling with MySQL even though it might be a little slow?
Thanks in advance.

Their used to be a game on shockwave.com that used the same concept but i dont know if it is still their :)

Thanks for the reply, hooligan

Your chat client looks great rubira.
Is the Flash Communication Server easier to learn and implement?
How would you go about installing it on your computer...?
Thanks
-
Drakz,
The Flash Communication Server (Flashcomm) is very easy to implement. His coming with pre-built components to add streaming video, live chat, meeting rooms, instant messaging and more.
Use the Macromedia Flash MX as authoring environment, using standards-based ActionScript.
You can download a free trial in Macromedia website.
http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashcom/
You find more about Flashcomm here
http://www.flashkit.com/board/forumd...php?forumid=67
hope this help
-
thanks rubira for the information
-
Hi Drakz!
Answering the question you left in my whiteboard, you can setup your Flashcomm with your WinXP.
you dont need change your web server. it can be the Apache, the IIS
(like mine) or anything else.
Try to download the trial version of Flashcomm. Is very easy to implement. Really. He comes with a lot of examples that you can see it in action.
For exemple: to implement a chat, like you saw in my whiteboard, you dont need to write any line of actionscript. you can use the pre-built components of Flashcomm.
In the Whiteboard as a whole, i only wrote the actionscript lines for the whiteboard that you draw on and for the pen.
:)

Cool thanks, I think I'm going to set up an Apache server on my computer to test it out. Haven't messed with FCS and its components yet, but hopefully it won't be too hard to implement stuff.
Thanks again

This is slightly off topic, but I made a drawing program:

Comments :P

Oh yeah, if you click the Airbrush (?) tool again after it's selected, you'll get different size brushes (there are 3 total brushes) :)

Hey, if you want a really quick install of apache/php/mysql
check this out:
http://www.firepages.com.au/
It's one click and the installer does everything else.
Believe it or not, there is an ungodly amount of money you can make with this. This company:
http://webex.com/
Did the training for our new database solution with whiteboards and teleconference calls. This was for close to 60 chapters across the country.

Good luck, Drakz!
Any help you need, you know where to find me. :)
-
Thanks everyone for the replies.
Lukstr: that's a pretty cool drawing board you have there!
RipX: nice drawing :)
captfc: thanks for the link for the preconfigured package for apache/php/mysql, I just finished setting the Apache server up with PHP on my XP machine.
rubira: thanks for you help again, I bookmarked your site for future reference. My current goal is to make something similar to your. Hopefully it's not too hard now that I got my Apache and FCS server communicating to each others.
-
Hey rubira, I have been messing with Flashcom for a week or so now. It's great so far. I have also been checking out your application too.
I was wondering how did you make your whiteboard like that? Because it is almost totally different from the whiteboard component that came with the Flashcom kit. Did you make up your own component or was it just a movie with special actionscript to communicate to Flashcom like the original whiteboard did.
Hope I made sense,
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the link.
By the way, your pen animation is just a movie clip attached as a cursor right?
