Im currently driving around in a clapped out old Rover 414, it was quite nice when i got it 2 years ago, but now it's kinda been ragged to sh*t.
My mates rekon I should get a Mitsi FTO, cos "you can get 'em for about £7 K" But I need some more advice.
I live in the UK.
Any ideas?????

yeah, mini's r cool, but not quite what i'm looking 4 at the mo... Think F355 (but a LOT less expensive).

Why not grab a Nissan skyline GTR R34 drift spec like the one in my avatar?
I mean after all, it's got an rb26de twin turbo engine where as the FTO lacks the boost as its N/A.
But the only problem is the R34 is more than AUD$100k, so maybe try to import an R32 from Japan.
New skool toyota supra, or nissan 300zx get a nice one of both for 7k..

You could try an FTO, but no dealer will help you with parts, 'cause in the UK they're all grey imports, not official like.
This'll leave you going to back street guys (sometimes the better option anyway) and searching up and down the UK for junk parts, if you happen to have a shunt - or waiting for months as they get shipped from Japan, NZ, or Oz, where they are common as filth.
If you want the Ferrari experience, but don't have the Ferrari bank account, I recommend the Fiat Coupe (20v turbo). Surely the most convincing poor man's Ferrari if I ever drove one.
Just make sure you can get insurance before you buy.

rb24det can fit in a silva or 240sx.
anyway Roobottom get a used mercedes been turbo diesel, 300 series. Save your money and invest. A car is the worst waste of money possible, except of course when its a really nice car. Or an antique car that you get lucky with on price.

just been looking at the FTO's on autotrader.co.uk, they look sweeeeeet! Can pick up a decent one for about £7K. Not bad.
But, insurance quote £1.5K for the year (fully comp). OUCH!
Need more (similar) alternatives.......

They cost a **** load of $$$$$$...
good millage supras (NA $15-$25K) ----- (TT $25k-$85k)
unless u want a salvaged broken down supra, with engine prob and millage over 180000 then maybe u can buy it for $7k :D

You may be able to get a trashed n/a 300ZX for 7k in the US (dunno what they cost in the UK) if you find a TT 300ZX for 7k, I would steer clear away from it. It you find a Mark IV TT Supra for 7k, never mind coz you won't find one.
If I lived in the UK I would be drooling over TVRs, man oh man I hope they bring the Tuscan to the US some day :)
The UK GTO is basically a n/a downgraded version of the 3000GT/Stealth right? I really love the TT 3000GT, I actually may buy one...so I say go for the GTO.

Great car. Good specs, cheap insurance group. Bascily a VW in an Alfa Romeo body.
