I'm talking about Flash design concepts + actionscript.
I consider myself an advanced user, although I don't really have any type of portfolio of Flash stuff... More of a Flash developer than a designer...
same here
I think you'd get varying results depending on which forum you post in. :)
That's about my level too, only problem is my Governmental crappy Job eats all my time, and leave me no room for creativity, I think I;m the least to use flash in his website
and version 2.0 due in a week will even use less flash, and that's not an invitation to check the site, it's a bunch'o crap :)
ywah i consider myself advanced aswell, as i have done application development in other platforms (LotusNotes), scripting in AS isn't a problem. And about design, well, some are born with talent :smoov:
Just bought Colin Moock's book aka "the bible" and hopefully I can jump from newbie to bad mutha very soon...
I would say I'm intermediate, just bought macromedia flash super samurai, it's got some really cool stuff in it about 3d, sound, physics, components, and stuff, but its a good book
I'm intermediate.
I'd say advanced. I'm more of a designer than a programmer but in the last couple of years I've found myself slipping into application and interface design/development, and I've got a good grasp on actionscript and scripting concepts. I used to do a lot of javascript programming and when I came back to flash I found actionscript a lot easier to run with.
I've only got a faint grasp on server side stuff but my dev partner does all that stuff and we've developed an extremely modular way of working.
4 years has taken me ot intermediate, and I would say JUST intermediate.
i'd say i'm intermediate. i've been using flash for 4 years now. i know lots about the drawing and animation side of things. but very little of actionscript. so i'm no way an expert...yet.
but hey, i'm only 17 :D
i would say intermediate, lacking in knowledge of advanced actionscripting though..
but hey, i'm only 27.
Intermediate could mean anything...
You could be great at AS but absolutely crud at Flash designing... or vise versa...
I'm assuming that "Beginner" means stuff like this: click
here
(That was done by a friend of mine like 2 years ago)
Or does it mean "past the n00b stage" and actually getting somewhere?
I just class myself as "Intermediate" because I'm not a complete n00b in that I do stuff like I posted above...
But then there are loads more peeps out there who are waay better than me who arn't really professional (man, I wish I was as decent as Hoss from FlamJam)
been 3 years since i picked up flash 5..
damn time flies fast!
What I meant by design concepts was knowing how to use the Flash interface... understanding timelines, layers, levels, masking, MC usage, etc. If you know all of this and incorporate some good self-written AS, then I'd say you're as expert as there is. A good design eye doesn't make you a Flash expert, it just makes you a good graphics guy. :) See where I'm going with this?
For myself, I'm on the same boat as a couple of others. I know the design concepts of the Flash GUI, but my AS skills are lacking... I can only understand it at a basic --> intermediate level and can never write script from scratch... so with that, I'd say my 4 years of playing around would put me at an Intermediate level. If only I cared more about writing code...

Wow, we've got lots of advanced Flash users in the Coffee Lounge.
Why aren't more of you in the Help forums? ;)
<-- Total Noob
Just starting to read about and learn this Flash thing y'all are talking about.
I've been lurking here for a couple of years, so I thought I would actually try it out. :]
Fray :doughnut:
I dont know flash. I AM FLASH!
Okay i'm honest....
I don't have flash, and if i were to have a copy... i would have no idea how to use it anymore....
There was a time i could make basic site... but nowadays... i don't even know how the macromedia product boxes or interface look like...
:p why you think i ONLY spend time in the lounge...
