VW: the apple of cars.

Does any one agree that Voltswagon is the Apple of Vehicles?

They both have clean cut and sleek products.

They aren't the best of what they do, but hold a foot in the market and have some of the best and innovative marketing techniques.

Look good but function not so good.

I saw a new white beetle and instantly thought of an ipod and than came up with this analogy.

VW is actualy a great car i think the Bug is crap and the passat isnt to great but the Jetta is a great car real reliable the only problem is the interior it tends to fall apart and the electronics arnt great but the engine will run you forever and if u get into an accident your safe.

They actually sell them over at eBay for pretty cheap, Im actually thinking of purchasing one...

as a jetta owner - engine is heavily modified, riding on 18's... should have gone with the 19's instead - and a mac owner... I guess I can see your analogy.

this is a very nice VW, btw.

on the mac boards when some clown compares a mac to a bmw i always pipe in that's if anything it's marketing, design and consumer following aligns itself more with audi--so i guess that's the same thing.

but have you guys seen that new vw phaeton? basically the A8 with VW badges...no joke...

I would be inclined to say that Ferrari are the Apple of the automotive world, and VW are actually more like the Windows car.

For your consideration - Like a MAC, everyone wants a Ferrari, but very few people actually go aout and get one, and even if you have the extra cash to drop on the 'system', you have to learn to drive all over again. Although it's unlikely to break down, maintenance (software, peripherals) demands that you take out a second-mortgage.

On the other hand, there's VW. Like Windows, everyone's had/got one, and knows exactly how to use it. They're relatively economical, fairly reliable, and even when they break down, it won't cost an arm and a leg to put right. Unfortunately though, in the head-turning department, they're not going to cause any kind of great stir. When was the last time that anyone was impressed when you said that you could work Windows?

I think not.

If your house has 120 bathrooms and you like to wear tweed, yeah, maybe a Roller is for you, otherwise, I'd stick with the Phaeton, A8, S-Class, 7-Series, etc.

You could even go Bentley. RR and Bentley are the same car you say? Again, I think not. They may look the same, but the Arnage will blow the doors off a Silver Spur and leave it for dead.

You can drive Miss Daisy around in an Arnage, but you'd better make sure she straps her wig on real tight.

I'd rather have a Roller/Bentley any day other than a VW, Merc or BMW.

Other than that I'd have a Range Rover Overfinch :D now that owns.

And you're right. Range Rovers kick butt. Put in the situation of being able to have any 4x4, my brain would say 'buy a Toyota LandCruiser', but my heart would say, 'buy the Range Rover'.

and yeah, the new beetle is a great example of how we recycle all these old ideas and get them so wrong because we fixate on hyper-consumerism, which in this case is sooooo the opposite of what it should be about. Oh well.

the audi A8 is a better equivalent for the phaeton W12, given £70k I wouldn't buy either of those cars, I was just trying to think of the kind of people who would buy an expensive exec car.

with £70k I'd buy an M3 and '72 246GTS :D

Both companies are about projecting a hip image to an image conscious market. Clean design, different shapes from the norm, etc.

That being said, I don't think VW's are really that bad, and you certainly can't complain about Apple's products. They know their markets, more power to 'em.

O.k. the imac is a toy, but the g5 is something else. Just like vw's are toys and some audis and lamborghinis are something else.

I would say Ferrari is the Sun or SGI of cars. Respected, but other cars half the price can do the same thing.

Porsche is the Alienware of cars. both rock, nuff said.

Ford is the wintel of cars. from ford f350's to ford gt40's, can do alot of things really really well.

Chevy is the AMD/Linux of cars. Agian lots of things really well, and kinda of cheap.

Funny i have neither a mustache nor have had my 40th birthday party, yet i can't wait to trade in my Jetta for a Passat station wagon (V6 4-motion).
