Competition Summary:
As many of you already know, ondraedan and I just finished up a team battle on Razyr Labs. The whole thing was a blast from begining to end and I'd like to see what we can do here in the FK arena to make something like it happen.
This is how we did it on Razyr:
Each team is made of up 2 people who use half the canvas each to create a whole image. Canvas was divided in half horizontally, vertically or diagonally, your choice.
The base theme was chosen by the mod one teammate would build his portion of the image on this theme. The other teammate would build his part on his “interpretation” of the opposite of the base theme. (i.e. the base theme is “water” you could reasonably use either fire or ice as the opposite, depending on your interpretation.
Image sizes were changed each round by the mod (all pretty large)
At the time of the deadline everyone would post their image on the forum and all the moderators would vote on the winners in a private thread.
From there they would publicly post the winners as well as the next round’s theme and deadline in the thread.
This is how I would propose we do it on FK:
Maintain the 2 person team, but allow the canvas to be more collaborative. Instead of a mandatory straight line divider, use a general 50/50 overall image space. Obviously, this won’t be able to be directly policed, but we’ll go on the honor system.
The “opposites” theme idea went very well and made for some very interesting images, as well as allowing for individual interpretation, I would certainly suggest keeping that intact.
Instead of having a moderator or moderator team choose the themes, dimensions and have private voting I would suggest that we take it to the coffee lounge. Since the CL is kind of the hub of the forum it sees the most activity and it will let the whole community get involved. This would also free up the mods to get in on the action.
Images would be due Fridays at midnight EST and should be posted by Saturday at noon for voting. The theme would also be voted on at that time. Voting would end Sunday at noon and results as well as the theme for the next round would be posted Sunday evening for the next Fridays deadline.
That’s the basic premise, I guess now if you’re interested in doing this post your name and your teammate. If you don’t have a teammate we’ll match you up as we go. Also, if you have any suggestions feel free to drop them in here.
Please remember this will be at least a 4 week commitment, with one image a week. (a couple more if you're in the finals) please don't sign up if you can't see it through. It's not fun when your parner drops halfway through the competition.
Hope to see a good turnout!
