Now, I never read the book, but I may see the movie. When the book came out, a whole bunch of christian publishers made responses.
They went out of their way to say a fictional book is, actually fiction. Same thing with TV; the discovery channel and history channel have multiple shows explaining how the fictional book is actually not real.
Now there are christen groups protesting the movie.
Can anyone explain this to me? There have to be greater threats to religion than a movie and book.
There have been.....the Catholics killed them all.
The world is clearly not making enough serious threats to christianity if they are going to ***** about a book and movie.
Remember how they backed The Passion? Seriously, why do they even bother addressing Hollywood at all?

When it was a book, it was ok. People that are largely into religion tend to not read.
But as a movie... watch out. Those people might go see it and form opinions. Instead of a sermon from the pulpit, it might end up in a questions & answers session.
Can't have that.

Personally I liked the book.
I think his other ones were better, they obviously follow a formula but they are still good in their own right. What didn't you like about it TGLC?
When I was a kid reading comic books, one of my faves was the "What If?" series. For those of you not in the know, the premise was to put a superhero into a situation where things went different for them and write a cool story based upon the life changes...
i.e.
What if ... the Hulk was pink?
What if ... Iron Man melted?
What if ... The X-Men dressed as the Village People?
...etc.
Anyway, to bring the analogy full circle, that's all this is...one big "What If?" comic. A great (fast) read which had enough intrigue and touched on a subject that everyone thinks they know something about, though no one has proof of one way or another, which was captivatingly written.
F the complainers. Go get some popcorn, enjoy the air conditioning, sit back, enjoy the show and then go back to your tawdry little lives, while Mr. Hanks and Mr. Spielberg line their pockets with your hard earned money.
Personally, I go to the movies to enjoy the experience. As the NY Post gave this one 4 stars - movie of the year rating...I think I'll shell out my $10.00
i listened to the audio book. it was mediocre, imo, just as entertainment. it is kind of annoying that many people believe the book to be based on fact. but, cant really blame the book or author for that.
If i had read it before the hype I would have though it cute. But after the hype I was extremely let down. I don't like the way he mixes facts with fiction. I felt like i was reading a children's book.Quote:

It can at times be a little tough to get through, but it is very rewarding. Name of the Rose is also a great book by Eco.
I say it's a good book, honestly. I grabbed it before the hype from the read of "Angels and Demons" alone... and enjoyed it.
Won't lie though, those two books though show Dan Brown's method of writing and how similar those two books are might disappoint.
However, it's a decent book, worthy of sitting down and reading it with the idea it's fiction.
I don't see why the idea that Jesus may have had a wife is so outrageous to these people...you'd think that would be a good thing in the eyes of the Catholics...
Otherwise what else can you say about His sexual orientation- single, in his thirties, never married, no apparent interest in women...draw your own conclusions...

the idea isnt outrageous in itself. the belief that there is substantial non-fictional evidence toward it is.
[ some people are probably offended by the claim at the beginning of the book: "all descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents [...] and secret rituals in this novel are accurate". ]
Not when they tell their priests that they should not marry... all to be more like Jesus, which is "pure". That's like telling the cops they should "protect and serve" but the Captain of police gets caught beating down a crook.Quote:

And if you look at the rest of religious history... putting somebody on a pedestal to where they're morally better than others is an easy way to make people that would normally use that money for booze and drugs and other selfish things to use it within the church as tithes.
It's all about where you put the money.
I liked Angels and Demons more, personally.
I read the book post-hype and still really enjoyed it. I've learned a great deal about both the bible and davinci in my life time and it made the story that much more enjoyable.
I know what the agreed truth is, but I decided to allow the book to entertain me anyway. The only reason I wouldn't go see the movie is that perhaps it's nothing more than the book all over again. Dan Brown wrote with a very 'screenplay'-ish style so I've kinda already seen the movie.

Anyhoo, although I liked digital fortress, it was only ok. My least favorite of the 4, in my opinion.

Well, I haven't read the book and I don't know if i will watch the movie. I'm to ashamed of being caught buying the book now, just keep imagine everyone pointing and sneering saying "you haven't read it yet?! Shame on you!!"
Oh well, I'll live without it i suppose. It's not really my kind of book anyway.
wow. I'm not one to put all 100% confidence into what critics say, but this is the reason why i read the book and dreaded the movie coming out. I thoughouly enjoyed the book and it was actually the last novel i read (2 years ago)Quote:
