hi xn
that sounds like something very helpful!
I downloaded the zip from your hp but it did not work. i got a message that it was missing 'msvcrtd.dll', whatever that is. Maybe you could put the dll up as well?
sunday
I've uploaded a fixed version in place of the old one. Just go to the site and get it.
The site is:

Xn
hi xn
now it works great, thanks. I wonder how it will work with adjustable frame rate. What is the rate in this version?
Please drop me a line as soon as you have finished the next test version ( [email protected] ).
Hope i'm not the only one interested in your prog...
sunday
I'll keep you posted...
:)
Xn
This is pretty neat. Could you please add some documentation (help file maybe) with the download?
Sorry, I forgot, the default frame rate right now is 8 fps.
This is in order to keep mpg files somewhere around the same size.
Xn
3XN,...
You could be on to something HUGE with this program!!! keep up the awesome work!!!! And keep us posted here!! Or e-mail with updates if you would be so kind!!! [email protected]
Thanks!!
TPhilipDolce,
Thanks for your kind words...
I'll do exactly that. I don't have too much time to work on it but I posted a beta version to see how many people would be interested in this sort of application. Do you really think that this could be a big thing?
Thanks again,
Xn
xn (or is it ...Xn?)
I don't know how the other ones slice their movies but i'm sure it would spend me a lot of wurk, especially if you could drag & drop multipe files, or convert all video files in a folder.
tpPhilipD i'm not sure if it is as huge as word, but who knows? If i would find it in a sw archive i would spend my pocket money in the license. (Well, a part of it.)
Go on xn, i'm looking forward to test that ui!
sunday
Sunday,...
Lo' and behold,...I spoke too soon. I can't get the darn thing to work!!! I unzipped it,..selected the .exe file and for a half of a millisecond I see a black screen as if it is trying to open and waalahh,..nuthin!!! Well if that aint a slap on my left rear cheek,.then I don't know what is! Shoot,..I was so hopeful too! It's about as useful to me now as hen shi#! on a pumphandle. (smiling) Anyway,...I'll wait until the next update and hopefully that will remedy the situation.
Todd
Hey, Its a command Line program- That's why there needs to be a help file. The screen shot does not make it look like it is a command line program but rather a regular windows app.
Okay, how do you control the file size with this utility. I used it and it converted a 976K avi into a 3.14Meg SWF. Is there a way to make smaller files with this?
hey todd, did you check your c:\windows for a file called sample.swf after you saw that funny black screen? :)
Johnnie, i tried a mpg with 589k and it went down to 273k! Could be a matter of the vid compression (or codec or whatever)?
... *
I think the prog is more alpha than beta, but it looks very promising, so i'll wait til we can get the next vs.
sunday
*(coffee break)
I'll try a MPG instead of an avi- it could be that it just makes big SWF's from AVIs.
Okay it shrunk a 77K MPG to 37K with no degeradation in quality.
Pretty nifty.
sunday,
No,..I never saw a sample.swf file Man, this is very misleading,..I agree with "J",..I did not know it was a command line program. Why have the visible executable file if I can't click on it to open it? It may be a great little program (I'm sure it is),..but I just can't use it.
TD
What threw me at first was the screenshot. The screenshot makes it look like it is a regular windows program where as the instructions say it is a command line program- very confusing. Once I figured it out I was happy though- again better documentation would fix this.
Is the screenshot a newer version?
Thanks for your interest,
The screenshot is of the version I'm working on now.
It will be ready in a couple of days.
I've put this version on-line to get first reactions about the need of such an application.
Thanks again,
Xn
Yo Xn's,
dont kill the command line option tho..
it'd be really cool to have if you want to automate the process, like say, from a PHP script..
I was thinking of doing this exact app..
thanks for saving me the time! :)
blessings,
toby

Tagbo,
That's a good idea, I'll leave the command prompt option available.
If you have any more features for the next version please feel free to send them to:

If you have any comments or questions simply drop a line in the site's wish list or reply here.
Xn
just downloading
be careful when using large movies over 10mb
this is great good luck!!!
how much will this cost?
Yeah I like it.
3X,
As I stated before, you are a true genius!! Now, what will this ingenuity cost us? Great product!!!! I wish it would allow for a frame rate higher than 12. also,..when i try to import the finished .swf into Flash 4, it closes down the application. Is this a trial characteristic that disappears after the product is registered?

Thanks for the great feedback everyone. I'll try to answer some questions:
1. The reason I don't support frame rates bigger than 12 fps - Flash player is rather slow when playing movies with high frame rate. Furthermore, the output file is obviously very large in these cases.
2. I've been able to import the .swf files both in flash 4 studio and in flash 5 studio. Maybe if someone has a connection in Macromedia he can tell me what I might have done wrong.
3. The price for the final product was not yet determined. I would say it will be around 29$. If you want to buy this beta version for half that price, please contact me at: [email protected]

Hi again,
As you all know I'm working on the version that supports sound. You can look at an example of the output in:
http://www.geocities.com/vid2swf/gallery/
Xn
The sound Pops? Do you know why this happens?
You know on this subject, I've been very quiet and laid back. Until now! Recently another thread posting was created by the wondeful Wildform people in their Wildform forum. This posting was purposely wrong and inaccurate and when I very politely replied with a correction,..I now see that the their moderator deleted my post. They reserve the right to do so being a moderator, I haven't a problem with that, but it basically shows a sign of intended disregard to accuracy and facts. What could they be afraid of? They stated (for the second time) that FLIX is the "First" and "ONLY" swf encoder around. If they would clearly state that it is the "first" and "only" .swf encoder with sound, then maybe they could get away with it,..but I cannot believe that even after a previous discussion with them about this simple fact,..they continue to make these claims. I'm in no way implying "ANYTHING" about their product,..but merely trying to point out that integrity is something that must be taken seriously within this industry and in this forum as well. FLIX may be a fantastic product, but they are NOT the first and only .swf converter/encoder on the block! This just bothers me!
http://board.flashkit.com/board/show...threadid=81963
It goes beyond that forum:
http://board.flashkit.com/board/show...threadid=81760
In the news Forum it is obvious that Xn has had things deleted and I know that they have deleted my posts with nothing said or any explanations.
Shoot, I'm sure if they had the power that they'd also delete this thread.
That's just plain wrong! I mean I really have to wonder about the integrity of a company that hides behind bloated claims and sponsors a moderator(s) that clearly is acting as an "editor" cutting and deleting posts that don't fit into their (Wildform's) plans.
I guess it just goes back to having faith in your product and services. I have mentioned other competitors in both Swish's and KoolMoves forums and have NEVER received edits, deletes or verbal volleys from either David or Bob. I mean I have enough sense/class not to degrade a product in their own forum, but even mentioning competition is never taken out of text in those two wonderfully open forums.
If your product is good and your support is there,..one should NOT have to worry about every comment made regarding another competitor's product. You need to keep abreast as to what the competition is doing,..but to delete posts regarding them or publicly misleading folks with inaccurate details about the competition is just plain wrong.
I don't care who you are,..a moderator or not, it's cheap and it's wrong.
Johnie,.you've mentioned tons of other products (and sometimes competitor's to the host's forum) but it has always been in good taste and in the effort to help somebody who may be having trouble or may want to learn about other options. I have found your information most helpful in every way and I just wanted to say thanks!
Hi TPhilipDolce & Johnie,
Thanks for your kind words. I'm happy to see that for some people the truth really matters.
Please come and visit my site:
http://www.geocities.com/vid2swf
You can get the latest version of my tool that now has limited support for sound.
Also check out the gallery section to see a couple of demos.

Hi all,
I've added an intro to my site:

And also created a discussion group in:

Come visit me, and drop me a line,
Xn
Hi,
here are a couple of tips for using vid2swf:
1. I usually convert the video files I have into AVI before converting to flash to get the best quality.
2. In order to sync the audio track, I import the output SWF into flash studio (available only in the non-trial version), and I add the wav file there (change the sync to stream).
3. Flash player is slow when trying to play long movies. So I usually convert short clips or use a low frame rate in long movies.
4. Another way to minimize the size of the output is to lower the quality of the images.
Hope this helps,
Xn

Hi All,
My program can convert videos and images without going through the UI. This means that you can write a script or a batch file that converts your entire archive of files into flash in a couple of seconds.
Tell me if you find this interesting,

Hi all,
What do you think about a program that converts SWF to AVI? Will you find it saving your time? How much will you be willing to pay for it?
Any input will be appreciated,
Xn
The program has the potential to be extrememly useful but none of the generated swf files can be imported into flash! It always triggers some fatal error that shuts down Flash. Is there a solution to this problem?
Hmm...errors when files are loaded into flash. Xn, are you using the Macromedia SDK? If so, that is a violation of the license agreement. lol. You must use the SDK to create software that outputs to the SWF format and "opens without errors" in the latest version of Flash. funny though...some of their own examples in the SDK probably would generate errors in Flash. Gotta love that license they have.
