WOW.
i love the feather detail on this. i love the angle of the wings and the body. the lighting looks perfect, and the background colours are a really nice contrast.
i think i would go so far as to say this is my favourite of all your shots posted here. and that's saying something.....
just, wow.
EDIT: can't stop staring at it! :D
Amazing shot! It looks as if the bird was suspended in mid-flight long enough for you to take the picture. I don't think you could have asked for a better wingspan. That's definitely a National Geographic-worthy cover shot right there.
totally.Quote:

Well, I know one award he'll be getting. Photo of the week... again. :mrpimp:
Stunning.
wow...man, i'm speechless...
Thanks guys. I hyperventilated when I saw it on my monitor for the first time. :)
Here's a crop big enough for a wallpaper if anyone wants it.
i think i love you.
aka thanks.
:D, enjoy.
Let us all bow our heads to the great and mighty ATG. All Hail ATG!
It will buy you the 5D if you sell it! :D
Congratulations Sir! Tip my hat!
Very Nice
Awwww, shucks. :o
Frex, tell me how. I have gotten a few of my pics published in the local papers, but just got the "honorable mention", no money. :)
Damn that's a nice shot :D
Very nice shot indeed. I think you need to update your signature on there though. Im guessing it is a new shot since one like this probably doesn't get kept to ones self for very long, but it still says 2006 on there.
Thanks guys. Milo, never even noticed it. I don't usually use it. got it out last night and put it on a lot of old images. :)
this shot is unreal. I sure hope you're backing up your photos in case something happens.
i just lost over 1,500 photos on my computer at work due to a hard drive failure brought on due to power outages and the ice storms. Some are backed up, some aren't...i'm very upset :(
I move them to an external hard drive every couple days, then burn them to dvd about once a month or so. :)
I have 3 backups of my photos.
What about selling them on stocks? You just need to be careful as many of them pay peanuts.Quote:

here are two very picky ones I know...there are a lot of other stocks but you have to gather information about their reputation!
Would it be an idea to offer it to the big magazines?
****, I better start backing up...Quote:

I have a ftp folder linked to my server so I just go in and copy that folder every so often and make a backup and then go into my webservice online and make a backup of the sql database.
ATG,
that is a spectacular image, can't say more really.
Can ask a question though ;)...
Did you do any sharpening in PS?
...truly in awe.
david
Meh, it's alright...Quote:

Oh i've been meaning to ask... what exacty is the background? Looks like water with strips of sand?
Thanks David. I do use a little USM in CS2. This particular image didn't need much though. Canon suggests using Unsharp Mask with these settings, 300, 0.3, 0.0, but I've found that to be too much if the image is already fairly sharp, so now if it needs any sharpening, I use 50, 0.3, 0.0, and I'll use a double pass sometimes, which really makes a nice sharp image without oversharpening. Different than using one pass of 100, 0.3, 0.0. It must multiply or something, not real sure, but it seems to give better results with a low yield double pass than one heavy single pass. :)
Thanks Robb, must have posted over yours. I wish I was getting the newsletter. Signed up twice now and all I get is a bunch of JM stuff I don't really want. Nothing about the FK Newsletter in it. :(
The background is the Mississippi River, frozen over except for these open spots. I was standing on a sidewalk, right in downtown here, which is about 30 feet above water level. So I was shooting slightly down or even level, and you see the ice and open water sections in the back. This is the only open water for miles, so the eagles have to come here to fish it. And I'm waiting there for them. :)
I had a feeling there was a little, but I agree, it would not have needed much.Quote:

How far away were you? you have OIS lenses, yes?
david
I'm not good at judging distances, but I'd say about 75 yards or so. Definately less than say, a football field away. This image is about a 1/3 crop. And no, no image stabilization. I had the 100-400L IS and didn't like it, so I sold that and bought the 400L non-IS, and haven't regretted it. It just needs more light so I can use a higher shutter speed. Also I used the tripod for this shot. :)
