The new ringtone thing is ridiculous. You have to pay $.99 to cut a 30 second clip out of a song that you've already purchased if you want it as a ringtone. Why not make it free for any song that you've already purchased?
RIAA business basics at work. I wonder how much of it goes to the music industry and what's left for Apple.Quote:

160GB iPod classic ... almost ... almost the size of my iTunes library. :p
Fredi
iPod Touch! Anyone interested in my iPod nano 8GB ... erhmmm ... with my name on it? ;)
Edit: Looks like the new iPod touch is almost exactly the iPhone minus the phone and slimmer.

They still can't get the disk size right on the iPod touch. I was starting to actually tempt me until they announced that the biggest one would be 16GB for $400!!! That is ridiculous. I still have my 30 GB one full so I'm definitely not going down in size.
If you really want all your music on an iPod, get the 160GB classic.
Fredi
30GB is really plenty for me. I have a lot more music than that but not that I listen too. I think it's a bad size when you start putting videos on there. I have mine loaded up with TV shows and movies. I don't plan what I want to wtch ahead of time. It's just convenient when i'm waiting in an airport to look through my library and decide what to watch. You can't really do that with the Touch and the screen on the classic still sucks.
Daddy wants.
Yeah, get that damn store back up so I can order. :p

look who's back, i knew it! :)

You should read some of the Engadget, Macrumors etc. comments, they basicaly want a 160GB iPod touch with Mail and of course not pay more. Thing is, there will always be people not happy with new products, but personally, I got exactly what I asked for, an iPhone without the phone parts/costs. Sure I would have loved to get the same with a 250GB solid state drive so I can put my whole iTunes library on it, but guess that product is still many years away.

You should read my post. They came out with the iPhone a few months ago with a pricing scheme of $499 and $599. About 3 months later, they lower the prices by $200. I don't care about the iPhone with no phone or the iDildo without vibe mode...I am talking about the price dump on a pre-existing product.Quote:

Looks to me that the ipod touch is a joke. Am I wrong? I looks like an iphone, has the same storage capacity as an iphone, and costs the same as an iphone. Except it doesn't have a phone (i guess this only means longer battery life) and that's it. Why would you buy this if you could buy the iphone for the same price???Quote:

I was really expecting for an ipod touch of at least 30GB, but 8gb is a joke.
But this is something all apple users already know. Back when they recently introduced the ipod mini, shuffle, nano, ipod photo and then ipod video. All those products came one after the other really fast, and everybody was sad because you bought an ipod one day and the next day they announced better cheaper ipods.Quote:

A bit on the heavy side. Wow. Just wow. When is the last time you saw ANY product get hyped with the fanfare of this thing, only to have the price of it drop by 33% in less than 4 months of launch? Your fanboyism may be putting too many trees in front of your forest, dude.Quote:

This isn't the 2nd gen iPhone. This is the same unit that was on shelves yesterday...just $200 cheaper. So, if I bought one yesterday, I shouldn't be pissed that the price is dumped by 1/3 of the cost that I paid less than 24 hours ago?Quote:

sorry wait what i can get an 8gb ipod for $300 or a 160gb ipod for $249?
one has a touch screen that is going to wear out in 8 months and the other has that nifty wheel?
I think they are worried because the ipod can kill the iPhone. If they had announced a 60GB Ipod touch, the iPhone would be dead by noon.Quote:

AFAIK they were pleased with the sales numbers, it was the best selling smartphone in July. Given that BB has new toys out as well, that's pretty good, but there's a lot of competition in the non-smartphone arena.
This doesn't mean sales were bad, but just not at the level they expected. They also have to worry about the new iPod cannibalizing the iPhone. If it's too much cheaper, it might just do that.
I don't think that those driving the price of the stock are as interested in the product line as those posting on Engadget, but...I am thinking that the products cannibalizing each other may be cause for concern.Quote:

I know I know, :) that was somehow an unrelated comment. The answer to why I think they dropped the price is on a post above this oneQuote:

Also, though with less influence, the new ipod nano design got leaked a few days ago, and I don't think it was well received (not as badly received as Palm's Foleo, but still, most people thought it was a bad change for the nano).Quote:

this stuff looks cool and all, but how am i going to squeeze my 62 gigs of songs onto the 16GB iPod touch? was the thin form factor really worth the drop in storage?
Wow, Subby must have really left again.

Not surprised, but it definitely will be on my list... wifi and touch screen. I can life with that.
Does the iPod thread that Subway started not count?
holy mcdamn... didn't see that. merged.
It all makes sense now!!!
The iphone was badly slated for it's internet connectivity!
So why did apple not make use of what they have done with the new ipod?
Would it be because the new the new ipod was sitting in the wings with it's internet connection using local wifi hotspots to connect to the net?
Think about it.
Why would they NOT want to add this to the iphone when they are due to release a new ipod 6 months later?
More sales
If they had added this to the iphone then there would have been no need to release a new ipod for some time.
How many ipod suckers are there out there rushing off to by the new ipod?
STVD (Subway Thread Visibility Disorder) ... mostly comes together with huge side effects and is unhealable in most cases. ;)
Fredi
keep ya' syndrome. for me it's called a heap of traveling and not seeing any fanboyism immediately and being surprised.
glad to know you didn't disappoint in any regard.
Under the features for the classic in the movies tab did they honestly use Zoolander for the sample pic? haha.
Dude - you're kidding me with a 'new' thread on this, right?
