how would you unprotect an .swf file so that you would be able to see the .fla file
to my knowldege u can't, u can import a swf file though.
Have you ever heard of TRADE SECRETS!!!!!
It's like asking a magician how he does his tricks.
If you want to learn a technique, ask the author, he or she might send you the .fla so you can figure it out, or make a Tut for you. But intentionally trying to hack a file is downright dishonest and is completely without ethics, period.
Most of my stuff ain't that great compared to a lot of the stuff on this forum, but I protect because it's my/my companies property.
I'm not ragging on you, I'm just trying to explain that a designer spends hours pouring their heart and soul into a project. Protecting something from import is like placing a copyright on it.
I hope this helps to explain things, Cheers :)
Im sure there must be some hack to do it. . .althogh maybe not because for example if you burn a cd and close it you can't get in again to change stuff. . .

gregemerson i totally agree!!!
I don't think its hacking.
I learnt html by view sourcing pages, like 99% of people did.
And here people say they learnt flash by modifying flas.
Copying it would be bad, but just taking it apart to see how it works isn't...
to me this is the entire point...if you want to tell your secrets you can give someone your fla. if not you can keep it. in html you didnt have the choice (and still dont unless you know good javascript). thats whats so great about flash. you have a choice. do you want your stuff to be yours or do you want to hand it out? someone is going to find your stuff out eventually by trial and error or through the grapevine but thats not your fault....
sorry for the spiel i just wanted to get that off my chest
Why did they put 'Protect From Import' there in the first place? Answer: So people can protect their work!
I have no problem if some one sends me an e-mail requesting an .fla of some of my work to figure it out. But I take it as personal affront if sombody hacks my work by overriding that protection. On top of that, a company protects their work this way because it's copyrighted, or is the process or being copyrighted! They have the creative rights to their property and they are well within their rights to protect it.
I think y'all need to look into how copyrights and creative rights work. If you want a career in the graphics field, it's a must; believe me!
Have a great Flash day :)

Go to Swifftools.com and download the swf browser. You can pull apart an swf and it will show you images tweens, and sounds. Cheers, Steve
ive downloaded all swif rippers that i could find just to test what is out there in the market, so i could see how easy it would be to rip off some of my material
From everything that i have found so far.. none of them do a great job.. they pull it apart, but it is nothing at all like looking at a .fla file, the best ones at this point can just break everything into items...
i did run across one (havent dl ed it yet) that shows you all of the action scripts in a swf
this is very unfortunate though... i really wish there was even more protection on our .swf's

C'mon guys its not like its some big secret how to use flash. Anyone can learn the coding, tricks etc. Its having the creativity to do something with the knowledge that matters. You could have every line of code ever written in flash but if you can design what good is it. I love flash but after all it is just a tool.
kovert, I think you mean what good is it if you CAN'T design, but I knew what you meant. And I totally agree with you.

there is actually a way to hack a protected .swf by deleting a few lines, but i wouldn't tell it for obvious reasons
Thanks for beign sensible ::im:: (somebody)
Why would you want to hack a file that you can probably find in the Movies section here on Flashkit. I mean we have the worlds largest Online library of Open source .fla's. If you need a file just ask, someone is bound to know where it is. Have a great day guys, Cheers, Steve
yeah, thx. i know the way from other message board(NOT were-here)but i wouldn't tell it because then everybody's gonna rip everything apart. government SHOULD deny mediaripper tools.
forget about hacking, how bout protection!
over on #flash4 at efnet, Morphius came up with a way to protect files. I forget exactly, but in frame one you set variable check = _url . In flash, _url is the current url.
Then in frame 2 you check to see if "check" is equal to where the file should be, http://www.blah.com/file.swf . if yes, go to frame 4 and start the movie else, go to frame 3 and have a "stolen" message waiting. In other words, the .swf file will only work on your site and nowhere else. Don't steal his idea though! I think he'll make a tute for it. If not, go to efnet and hang out!
If you guys are really worried about protection of your swf's just put in a ton a nullified actionscripting that just draw up blanks in the backend scripting, actually make the movie play just fine. This will screw up the idiots who try and hack it, because they won't be able to figure out what the stupid script is doing. Cheers, Steve
yeah, you like put
<script>
fuction void(){
start.end.whatever
....
it's all about misspelling the script tag, you just put
<scrit>
and i bet no one will look for it.
also, a very SMART way, is to put your movie in a projector of it's kind(load movie). when a hacker hacks the movie, well, he doesn't get anything...the way to do so, is laoding variables
my_url=www.site.com/blah.swf
---
load movie(expression,my_url)
---
this is first of all dynamic...and totally baffles any hackers out there.
Totally, there are just those people who don't want to sit down and figure it out the hard way, and they know that they can't ask for help because then someone will say that there is no way in hell that they did tat. Now the so called hacker is stuck foreever and the Flash community has prevailed. Cheers, Steve
Hey everybody. Unfortuneatly, I just found this prog that makes a "protect from import" swf able to be imported. I haven't tried it, nor plan to, but it's there.
There is a link on http://www.parsite.com at the bottom left. I suggest you chew this guy out!...or not.
I was going to post a cry for help when I found this thread; I lost an important .fla file during a hardware upgrade, and all I have left is the .swf file. I too am all for protecting intellectual property, but I was hoping to get some assistance to rescue many weeks of Flash work!
Help... please?

I've red many stupid comments on the web, but this thread has some of the most stupid ones.
1. Not everyone is a Hacker, some people just want to learn, test, and so on.
2. The percentage of people INTERESTED in "your files" is probably close to 0 (zero), and definetely lower than the people interested for other non illegal reasons, and to those, you are simply denying the chance to proceed with their work/project.
3. in few decades you will be dead, like every other human, if not before. And no one will still care about the files you wanted to "protect so bad". But in fact, they will care about the fact that they couldn't proceed with their work because of you fears.
4. Hackers always find ways, that's their job. They don't come here asking for advices, since they take it as a challange, and asking would be like cheating.
5. Someone is gonna say it anyway, and again, you are just deying others to be able to work on their projects.
In my case, for example, i need to unlock an SWF of a videogame that has full modding community, and i'm just reworking an existing mod that is free to be modified with consense of the author.
But it doesn't let me change the Font.
Now tell me, how is this supposed to "damage your files"?
And even if someone had a different porpoise, they need to find out who you are, where you keep your files and so on.
In the meantime, me and many other people reading can't proceed because fear ate your brain with age.
TWENTY FIVE Year Old Thread..... A new record:lovers:
