CS3 Install Issues

So, I finally got my hands on CS3 Web Premium. After nigh on 30-f*ing minutes of installing, it finished, but for some reason wouldn't install Acrobat 8. I was able to register and install all the other apps (omitting Version Cue and Contribute) with no problem.

The only thing I had installed prior was Flash 8 and Reader 8.1, which I uninstalled prior to allowing CS3 to pillage my system and leave a flaming trail of sectors on my hard drive.

I tried hunting down the Acrobat installer on the disc, but it rejects my CS3 serial number like a 2 year old spits out over-cooked brussels sprouts.

I searched around and didn't really find a solution. Anyone?

what OS are you running? As CS3 has major problems with installing Acrobat 8 on both OS X Leopard and Vista :(

There is no known way around it yet as they've not released the patch yet.

Seems kinda BS, that Adobe can't get a simple bundled installer to work right.

That's odd. I recently installed Web Premium, without any problems, on my XP (SP2) machine.

The CS3 serial number issue has been a problem addressed on several websites, however it seems like it's only specific to machines that previously had the CS3 beta installed.

When I installed CS3 I had to close down everything. It even forced me to close down Thunderbird. It's the equivalent of blaming circus midgets for global warming. Uninstall everything and reinstall

I had to use the CS3 Clean Script in order to install Acrobat 8, that was a clean install and did exactly as you just encountered.

To solve, I installed Acrobat first... then reboot. Installed CS3 sans Acrobat last. Reboot.

And it's ok now.

Damn. Time for Adobe then. I had searched to find that answer dude.

I did some googling, apparently there are levels 3 and 4 of that clean up script. I uninstalled EVERYTHING, including CF8, ran it twice at Level 4, and upon installing Acrobat only my machine rebooted.

Ugh.

CS3 definitely has a lot of problems as far as getting everything to work with the serial. My work bought it and after using it for about 2 months it started saying that our license was invalid. I posted on some forums and everyone just told me to roll back my date which wasn't a good option so I called Adobe and they had me format my drive. They said that was the only known way to get it working. I needed to anyway so I did and haven't had any problems since.

interesting. In my experience, CS3 has been one of the best upgrades in a long time. And that's based on seeing it install and run fine on numerous mac and windows boxes. Bit of a resource hog but who can blame them?

Figured it out.

Checked the event log in Windows.

Acrobat consistently failed because I had the print spool service disabled. (I don't own a printer, so why have it running?)

There were also a few times the MSI service wasn't running for some reason, and that generated errors.

Made sure those two services were running, and voila, like butter.

Even though i've had problems with the licensing I still think it's wonderful. I'd love to play with AfterEffects and Premier but i only got Web Premium. Maybe i'll have to download the trials.

I don't quite see how a printer service equates to a comment about licensing from Jasonplace... however, I'm glad you worked it out PAlexC.

The printer thing is due to Acrobat needing to install the Postscript printer drivers and Acrobat Distiller :) for making PDF's so it will need to have an active printer service.

I knew that from way back when, just forgot I had disabled the service. ;)

Sorry to change the subject slightly, but does anyone know if CS3 will run on a PowerBook? I'm told it will only work on the new Intel Macs??

That was a licensing problem that I was commenting on.

What appears to happen, is that Acrobat 8 uses a separate licensing system from CS3 products, so there is a bit of a hack going on.

If you launch Acrobat 8 BEFORE entering the serial # and activating any other CS3 app, it prompts you to launch another CS3 app such as Photoshop first, then quits.

It appears that the CS3 serials numbers aren't compatible with Acrobat's standalone activation, so they worked in a bit of a hack that lets the CS3 activation do something special with it to activate it.
