Wow...I glanced at this quickly and totally misread it...Quote:

well it would be an interesting way to go i suppose.. i wonder how long a black hole would take to eat the earth :curious:
im so using this as a way to bang as many chicks as possible before they turn it on.
If they successfully created a black hold underground and something went wrong I feel that we wouldn't even know what hit us before we were sucked in.
For those of you that missed it, the Boston Globe had some awesome pictures of it. Really impressive:

Impressive photos. Hope it doesn't kill us all.
I mean one hung over worker who didn't feel like working that day ****ed up one weld and we're dead. I wonder if this thing has an auto off.
All I can say is reading this made me incredibly anxious. Messing around with something that even scientists call "the a.k.a. god particle" doesn't sit well with me. Things like this make me even more anxious; why even say it:
Quote:
“When we started, we did not know how to do this experiment and did not know if it would work,” he said. “Twenty-five hundred scientists can work together. Our judge is not God or governments, but nature. If we make a mistake, nature will not hesitate to punish us.”
i bet it doesnt do anything. they turn it on it makes a loud bang turns off and thats it.
Maybe we should have a Top Things to do Before You are Swallowed by a Black Hole-Thread
im kinda excited to possibly go through a black hole.
Scrub to 00:13:30 in the podcast I linked.Quote:

wow that rap makes my head hurt.
You guys are a bunch of worry warts. This isn't the first particle accelerator ever built, and we've smashed atoms before. People had the same sense of paranoia about atomic bomb testing. What's going on at CERN isn't an uneducated guess, it's very calculated based on smaller-scale experiments.
The worst that'll happen is everyone inside of it will get electrocuted. There's a sh*tload of electricity running through that thing, and if there are any QC issues...zzap!
I'm not really worrying- more hoping :)
I just still don't get the POINT of it. That 8 billion dollars could have fed a lot of people.
Just listened to a good chunk of that podcast and caught the 13:30 section. I still don't what the point it. So we can make a blackhole the size of a proton....yay.
so this mother****ing thing will go off the day before my birthday?
yeah. doesn't bode well... so sayeth Gerbstradamus.

Time and interdimensional travel may come of it. Part of what they want to prove is that extremely small pieces of mass borrow energy from the future in order to exist only to return it immediately. It could make warp drive seem silly in addition to fantasy.
It's already been postured that we may be able to communicate with other dimensions by causing absences in their gravity.
What happened to the countdown site? Is it down for anyone else? Maybe someone accidentally turned the machine on early and it got pulled into another dimension. :D
I blame the large hardon.
I don't see any Brazilian Twins...
You are quite obviously trawling the wrong thread. I need a brazilian olympian twins widget for my desktop...
Well, you've come to the right place . I'm sure a lot of us could brush up on our AIR skills.
No wonder the site was taken down. It was wrong.
First partial test scheduled for tomorrow (August 9th, 2008). The first full test is September 10th, 2008.
I got the impression it would help discover why we can't detect 90% of the Universe's mass - dark matter, etc., by creating particles that make up dark matter.
and you would be right. Even if the Higgs boson test fails, their are a number of other tests that will be ran.
Delayed until September 10th.
Hedonism shall continue...
crap! I gotta make a phone call.
2 more days to work out my plan to kidnap those twins...
Can that particle collider thing be turned into a cloning machine? If so, sign me up...I call dibs on the first set of cloned brazilian hot twins. Actually, I'll take two sets of twins and a Hugh Hefner robe.
I already called dibs.
OK, now it's two days away. September 10th .
fun fun fun :)
So you're going to get sucked into a black hole no matter what happens in the experiment.Quote:
