As posts seem to sink to the second page so fast now, we are thinking of making so 50 threads per page are displayed.

Great Idea. I don't think a lot of people read the threads if they are not on the first page. This would help.
hmm... as long as it doesn't take longer to load and the boards don't go slower, i'm all up for it.
We might trial it for a while and see how it goes, If performance degrades we will have to change it back. Should now be 50 threads a page, please let me know what you think.

on the other forums, there are only like 8 threads at view at one time. That's fine but i don't see a page 1 2 3 ... link on the bottom. are they being deleted??

just noticed that on some threads with several images like the one we have going in cl took forever to load on a cable modem. i didn't realize you were speaking about posts in a thread i thought you were speaking about threads per page in a forum. that would really help. get to see more threads per page.

We've been having "funny" problems with the board server even under no load, we are working on it as usual.
Lets see how 50 threads per page goes for a few days, it is easy to trim it back if we need to, so if you think it is too slow, too big or not good, please let me know.

For people on a fast computer and have good connection, maybe, but most poeple are on 56k and less, the page will take very long to load, espessally with the footers and sometimes pictures.
Right now im on my P3 with cable, and i would like 50 page threads, but, im also on a network, i have a comp in my room, and i usally use that one, and it is way slower, I have a 233 mhz with cable modem... but feels slow, My comp cant handle the 50 pages that well, will be very choppy, even with the 20 threads or something its slow for me, just imagine for the 56k'ers, and the 36k'ers and even less. Lets keep it the way it is, and leave it that way.
Good feedback, as I said it is a trial. I'd like to hear from some modem users too.

Well, I was on a 56k recently, with a P2 400 i think, and it was at 15 posts per page, and it was choppy, and slow, i left the board, because it was way to slow, took a while to load the board, then posting back was terrible, dont make the 56kers pay!!!!! You guys will loose people
Well the key word here is "recently". Yesterday this board was slow as molasses, but right now it's fine. I will say that if it does get to slow again you WILL lose people as OKjoe has pointed out. We need more people with 56k to vote on this.Quote:

true, but i dont think flashkit is fast 24/7, i wanna hear moe from 56k and less
and people with slow CPU
It's loading nice and fast for me, but it was really slow about 5-7 hours ago. I have cable though, sorry OKjoe.:)
Careful not confuse our "server issues" with loading times. If you look at http://board.flashkit.com/admin/mrtg you will see this box does not get under too much load. The extra 15 threads on a forum page would not be a lot of overhead, but I want more feedback from modem users. The board should be around this speed most of the time.
Cable users will be fine i think, im on cable and its fast and fine for me, but i also have a 233mhz in my room, and it was so slow in my room, i went onto the P3 450 mhz, so, yeah... 450mhz is fine, 233mhz isnt hehe
I have 56k at work and cable at home..and it actually loaded faster all afternoon at work....But I did threaten it with a hammer...:DQuote:

Seriously I noticed No slowing down..:)
Aslo if the page loads from top to bottom, I dont see how it could be a problem you can still scroll and read whilst its loading.

Friday nite 10:00 pm here, but I have emailed jml to see if it possible, will let you know next week. My gut feel is that it should be possible.
personally, i think it will be kinda a mistake, ur pushing it with rhe low connections... But go ahead and try, like to see what happens
is there any way to have the user change how many. cause i know i use flashkit at school and the computers are so slow it takes a long time to load.
ya, i think that users should get to pick how many post a page they want, that would be cool...
