These three lines aren't necessary, they prevent the user from watching the movie fullscreen, giving the ability to scale and showing the menu when right-clicking the movie.

I did use some actionscript to let the characters move, but I only did that because a script keeps the file size smaller than using a tween (and it's easier to let the object move "faster" by changing numbers).

All that happens is the x-position of the dog decreasing by 10 pixels each time the frame is entered (this._x -= 10;)until the x-position of the dog is smaller than 0 - the width of the dog (thus the dog being off-screen). If this happens the x-position of the dog is reset to 650 (the right side of the screen). Don't worry about the scripting if you're going to do the animations, other people can do it for you if you get into trouble.

Currently i am learning how to use Toon Boom animation to scan in drawings and export them into swf files. this will allow me to use my sketches that i have done, i am working on a project this week and all of next week, but after that i would be happy to post my ideas and characters i have done.

the10101 sence you are now ready to create the guy you need to now create the guy. Just draw a good picture of him in whatever program you want and export it into flash. Then e0-mail me the .fla or post it here. I will construct him from there. Thx for the help.

ok is it just me or did that post make no sense? i think you might have forgotten a period or something.

are you asking me to do the character? i can make the parts, and you can assemble em, so i make a bent leg, a half bent leg and a str8 leg, and same with arms and body. but i dont want to do the board, i suck at em.


oh and by the way. aloong with toon boom, i got 3ds max and am about to get poser. if you wait i could make some good splash screens for the game, or even the character himself. i can export to swf from max, so we can take the pieces and assemble em in flash.

if you want, but that is time consuming, and like i said, i cant statrt for another week

Can anyone give me a job involved with actionscript by any chance. I'd be glad to help out with engine if you want

I started working on the actionscripting for it, but then the group got turned towards the graphics of it. I had made a scrolling platform, and i have an updated copy with the new background if you want it. On my home computer, I have the script for tricks, it is incredibly easy to customize and to use.

basically it works like this. you have a function with variables for all of the tricks, so the points recieved, the difficulty(or skill level required), and the frame in the playerMC to go to in order to play that tricks animation. I can add more like the max height of the trick etc.

then all you have to do is assign a key.isdown action to calling this script and inserting the variables. the possible tricks can change per level if you want too. I still have a couple bugs to work out, like making sure he doesnt do a trick while doing a trick(easy one, just takes some time), and a wipeout code is on the way. If you want it to be similar to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, i could add something like a balance method that would be alterable by the player. hehe.....the more wipeouts the better......


But maplethorps has to tell me all what to do and what graphics to put in and everything. Im a coding man, not the ideas man.

btw-i thought this was gonna be a skateboarding game, did we decide on a scooter instead? I dont mean to be offensive, but the "scooter gangs" are the kids we "pick on" now. (they deserved it, they hit my friends car with their scooter)

that scripting sounds good -

is there a way that you can make the on.keypress so that certain tricks can only be performed off a ramp say?

for example, you get on the ramp and near the edge you pressd the key for the jump, then press another key for one of these "tricks" with the weird names!

also what about a scoring system - the maths wouldnt be that hard, say multiplication in a combo of moves.
eg. first x1, second move x2, third x3 etc.

Easy, gimme a week, and when i get home sunday, i will post the code. there will be problems with hitTest all of the ramps.
we will probably end up naming them all "ramp1, ramp 34, ramp200" etc. then ust evaluating the hittest for all of them, or we could just have a code in the ramp that wouldset a variable in the skater. i dunno, we've been workin all weekend on this project, i havent slept in 2 days, so....
