Hmm, in Sweden saying the term 'neger' which is Swedish for a black person is mostly (although not politically correct) socially acceptable. The English term '******' however, is not, just as 'blatte' is not. A 'blatte' is by defenition someone that does not come from Sweden and therefor is somehow bad.
It is, as you've all previously stated about the situation, how you say it, and who you say it to.
Me and my little sis call each other b*tch, tik (female dog in Swedish, ie *****), luder, woman (in a degrading macho sort of tone) and so on without meaning anything by that.
Btw, are racist jokes where you're joking about the racist ok? Like:
Racist says: "This country sucks! Too many *beep* outlanders! I'm moving to a country that doesn't allow imigration!"

You are certainly free to say whatever you want. It's your first amendment right....just don't get all bent out of shape when someone calls you on it. Trust me I love Chris Rock and Archie Bunker equally, that's entertainment folks!
P.S. Rydeman, I can hear your broken accent as I read...how Swedish (no slur intended..hee hee)!
As far as I'm aware the first ammendment doesn't cover the whole planet just yet ;)Quote:

Damn, race seems to be such a sensitive issue all over the world. I live in South Africa and we often have to fill in forms on which we have to state our race. I look as white as anything (very pale skin, blonde hair and grey eyes) but I am actually half malaysian... I never know what the hell to write and is it really any of their business anyway?
that's exactly the point I was making. I for myself can't say it. If I would say it, it would be offending.Quote:

"Yo whassup fat ass!"
Now you see if you were skinny and you would have called the big guy a "fat ass" then it would be a totally different story as if another fat ass calls another fat ass "fat ass".
It does make sense and is applicable to the topic matter.

I hope you didn't take the word in an offending way then...

South Africa! Cool - I went to this concert and there was a band there from South Africa called The Benjerman Gate - have you ever heard of them? They rock!Quote:

And back on the topic... It's obvious that celecrities can get away with anything - - they get off of muder charges, drinking&driving charges - and they can get away with showing absolutely no respect for anyone. I think Chris Rock is funny- I'll admit that when listening to him I was surprised to hear some of the racial slurs coming out of his mouth. But I thought "Hey, he's black so he must know what he's doing when he uses the 'N' word". Truthfully, I never really though Archie Bunker was that funny - I was shocked that television let him get away with such blatant prejudice (sp?) And don't get me started about rap music!;)
Rap is my absolute favorite type of music, but I can't stand listening to all the words. It doesn't entertain me to hear the F word every 2 seconds and the only word to describe a black person is N***er (I still won't spell it out) and the only word used to describe a woman is b**ch. I just don't see the reason for it. Personally, I do think that it's funny sometimes to poke fun at someone in good humor, but just throwing hurtful words around like that in the name of entertainment just doesn't cut it for me.
