Scariest day of my life...
I wound up underneath the WTC when the 1st plane hit...I wound up getting back into the PATH system (the subway between New York and New Jersey) and wound up on the Jersey waterfront...watching both WTC towers tumble to the ground. I had friends who were in the building....all escaped with their lives....unfortunately many didn't. I've listened to ambulances go by my apt. all day and all night...people are aimlessly wandering the streets...not being able to return to Manhattan, or their apartments have been destroyed.
It was so surreal to watch these buildings fall to the ground....if any of you have ever been to NYC, you understand the importance and the symbol that these buildings represent. The fact that they are not here anymore, that the city at this late hour is still burning....that there are scores of people. firemen, policemen trapped at this point....is just beyond words.....
It will be a long time before things around here return to some state of normalcy, although things will never be the same.
