Flash sites can be very, very, veeeeery booring sometimes (mine included). I'm getting REALLY SICK of flash websites that have that "Flash" look. Do you know of any websites that are strictly made in flash, but you couldn't tell unless you checked? I'm not talking about flash that looks like html. I mean sites that DON'T LOOK LIKE FLASH.

??? This is a contradictory post. You say Flash sites are boring, and you are sick of sites that have that Flash look. Then you ask for Flash websites that do not look like HTML. It seems that that is exactly what you are asking for. A site like http://www.cnn.com all in Flash. Perhaps you could elaborate a bit. ;)Quote:

he's just saying that he's looking for sites that don't have the typical flash look. I assume he's just looking for something different like all of us, no big deal.
Why don't you pop over to the Flash Site Check forum and browse around. Actually I see a lot sites that are done in Flash that operate a lot smoother than the java button sites, and at first glance aren't the usual fare, but I am not sure what sort of thing you are looking for.
I am personally tired of the horizontal rectangular, ultra thin line, teeny tiny font sites complete with splash pages.
i'm talking about sites like that one.... shi*t, uh... its a developement site, with an orange grove theme. it looks like old packaging. i've seen a couple sites in the shape of buildings. i'm going to do some hunting around for links to illustrate my point: Sites that don't look like Flash.

I really like ChoppingBlock, but they could cut the sound after a couple of loops. The country nasal gets a little grating after a while.
I get the inspiration for my graphics from fruit crate labels indirectly--I love that style. It's refreshenly retro.

I have one question though, why do they constrain their window when their graphics are designed in vector, why not take advantage of the fact that Flash will scale with whatever size window, and resolution is used. Sure it will distort to a certain extent, but can't we work with that. Why constrain? Especially with this sort of graphic why be anal about a little stretching.
Perhaps they don't have enough content to fill up a larger amount of space. Even if the graphics are all vector, they would still need the content to fill the extra space right? Having larger text to compensate wouldn't really be effective on this site.Quote:

You can compensate with the way you design. It doesn't always have to be a constrained rectangular space. I am getting really tired of that. My site stretches to a certain extent, with whether or not the user has any favorite or search functions open in their browser, but the stretch doesn't ruin the overall design of the site, and it allows the user a little control over their own computer. I get tired of sites telling me at what resolution I can view something. The part of having a new computer, is being able to adjust things to fit your needs, and Flash can work with this. If we would only start designing to fit in with it.

One of the strengths of Flash is that it's scaleable, that's why I bought it back with version four.
Try my site, no matter how you resize the window the composition is still pretty good the text will get blurry at an extreme, but if you have a teeny tiny monitor or laptop and lots of bars open that's your choice. My page still presents pretty well. I am tired of two bit designers telling me what size my browser should be. Or pop little windows or worse yet going full screen...and I know about alt F4.

No one wants to talk about sites designed for scaling?
concept:
FlashMX can sense when it is scaled so:
a. if i were able to create an "template/look" of site that tweened through two or more styles, couldn't I make a site that dynamically layed-it-self-out, BASED on the resolution of the browser window?
imagine: i could SEE the interface/layout change by scaling the browser window...
this technique incorperates both of the ideas presented above, and gives you the opportunity to design for more real estate than you would normally allow youself on pro work.

I've just started experimenting with XM so I am sure just how this would be accomplished, but it sounds a little like having an html and Flash site, so the viewer can choose--which would mean splash screens would still be used (for which I have a dislike). But maybe it entails more backend stuff, which is invisible to the visitor. I still think some things should be left up to the viewer. If they choose to shrink or distort--that's their call. I am not one of those people that needs a level when I hang a shelf. Sometimes eyeballing makes more sense and if the end user is happy, so be it. I think designing a composition that can withstand it, is where the problem is.

The trouble with "knex" is that if you don't have a search or favorites frame open in your browser, only two thirds of my screen is filled on maximize. I have a large monitor set on 1024 by 768. It scales, but I still have big empty areas.
I do have to say that "K'Nex" is an untypical Flash looking site. Nice concept.
