hummm... well, if it was a gotoAndPlay problem, it would do the same for everybody ... and some people can see it, other can't ...
I would rather go for a slight difference of code interpretation following the flash plugin version or plateform ... or would it come from the xml ??? i don't really know ...

Did you tried the earlier version ( i mean, before i reposted it ) ? was it working ? on another browser ? and most important : are U on mac too ?

sorry man, but it's not just macs.

Here's what I came up with:
IE6 : works great
Opera : broke
NS4.7 : broke
NS 6 : broke
all on a pc, I don't have a mac to test it on.

So unless you want to require IE then you're probably going to want to take a look at it and find out why it's doing that.

Well, the only explaination i find for now might come from the XML pasting routine ... since the maps are coded in XML, there might be something that makes the tile value not arrive to Flash through the browser, so it cycle all the tiles ( the strangest thing is that all these ones are old tiles that shouldn't even be referenced in any MC ... strange ...

Well, for now, i will continue de devloppement, but see if i cannot change the map generation so that it stays in normal external AS ...

The old version works great - no problems at all. The newer version cycles the tiles on Opera, but as MattGuest has discovered, it doesn't run well on anything but IE.

The earlier version worked on IE (I was using IE at the time) but Opera is my preferred browser. I'm using Windows XP, and my Opera browser is set to emulate IE5.0.

I don't know anything about XML, but what you said about the data not reaching the browser so it cycles the tiles 'sounds' feasible!

no problem. I hope you can figure it out.. you should get yourself a copy of netscape, when it works there it should work anywhere.

i just installed a old netscape ... but i don't like it ... far too exigent for the poor coder i am ;) ...

give Opera a try - it's a great browser! Fully customisable and let's you zoom in and out too! (useful for slow flash games, you can zoom out and make the game run faster)

Well, i'm kind of satisfied wit IE ...if i installed Netxscape, it is only to test how it is not working, and the different solutions i will try to make it work ... i hate the lake of compatibility between browsers and computer : it makes our work so much more difficult ! :-(

Previous versions worked for me just fine... and my own version (different implementation) works fine, so it's probably somthing small like a dropped semi-colon or somthing. If you want, drop me an email with the fla, and I'll run through it (if you've edited TBW.as, then send me it instead).

The tiles look great - love the buildings and trees! They look really solid and the world feels real. I'm starting to agree with what someone else said though - that he should walk a little bit slower. It would make the game more relaxed and like a RPG

Well, let's see once the fight sytem is here : because the point is that the fight system will be arcade-like ... which means that the character has to be fast to escape, or reposition itself facing enemies ...

There is also a lot about map design : the map in the demo version is kind of small, and i have put a lots of elements in it, which also means that there is often something blocking your way ...

The version with several maps linked is coming really soon, and then, i will design bigger maps, with less elements in it, so you will have more freedom to move ...

I was thinking that an arcade fight system would be more motivating than a turned based system, specially if it's simple ... that's why i call Two Kingdoms an Action / RPG, more geared to action than geared to RPG ...

Though, your point is excellent, and also very interesting : of course i will invite you to play it, as well as every other member of the board, when the AI will be working ...then, you will all tell me if i should quit the arcade system, to go to a slower-paced turn-based fighting system ... and then, i can also slow down the player ...

Of course, the goal is to make a fun game, which mean that i have to please players, and not nessecerly the ideas i have about gaming ...

Actutally, i would love to have other point of views about the fight system : total arcade ( run/aim and shot arrows (or slash with the sword)) or a quiter version, more like turned based ???

I love the fight system in Baldur's Gate. It's realtime or turn based depending on how you set it up, but all action takes place on the map instead of switching to a battle screen like most turn based systems do. All of the enemies are wandering the map and when you get close enough they attack and the game switches into battle mode.

Just saying that if you haven't played it you should before you make a final desicion.. could give you some ideas :)

Actually, i tried to install the demo version that i downloaded from fileplanet, but it's not working (which is a shame : 7 files of 95mo, and at the end, it ask a CD - and it is the official demo, not a crack !!!! )

instead i installed the demo of Arcanum, but i don't know if it's the same fight system ... i found it quite boring ...(but may be i'm the only one ... )

I totally agree : i would like to keep the fights on the map : i don't really like switching to another screen either !!!

Try Age of Wonders. That game is so ****ing cool, and the battle system is also quite cool.

No no no !!! it will be free to play ... you will certainly have to create an account, since i want players to be able to save their status - quests - world, but it will be totally spam-free ! actually i don't think i will even requier an email ...

It being free i hope that i will have a lot of players, and a lot of contributions since the map editor will be on-line too -> custom scenarios !!! ;) ;)

and the code that is existing so far will be open source ... with some tiles to have fun with ...

I'm doing this to find a job in video game industry as a designer ;)

I was working on an rpg engine a while back that had an online editor so people could create their own quests. Didn't look nearly as cool as yours though :)
