iliap and myself had a good time discussing the roots, the present and the the future of Flash and the NY flash community! Too bad there weren't more of us there!
Let's put together a bigger and better rendezvous for next week... ;)
okay, i'm totally game for next week. let me know via e-mail or via this thread when, where and what time.

I wanna go next week, too. I've been tracking the developments on this thread for a couple weeks, but the Yanks were a priority. Now that the season's over I wanna do some serious flashin'. I'm around the corner from Halycon, but I'd be game for a Void thang, too. Long as everyone is on the same page, ya dig?
Did anybody attend the Macromedia seminar on 57th St on Thursday? Flash 5 looks very cool. Man, their whole product line looks outa sight! And it looks like Flash has arrived as the standard. Something like 96% of all browsers have the plug-in. Awww yea!
I am a new member of this flash thing and need some advice. I want to make an animated series of flash movies similar to the tim burton/david lynch thing going on at shockwave. The character drawings are done, and I need to get my old school pencil sketches into flash as close to the original as possible. How does one keep the integrity of the drawing with the most minimal amount of work. I would suppose I should scan them into photoshop, then import them into illustrator, then use the bezie tool and retrace them, then bring them into flash. This seems alot of steps/work. Has anyone used a digital pen/pad to trace them directly into flash. I don't have one so I don't know how that would work. I live down the street from void and would love to get together with someone anytime and talk about the finer points of flash animation.
Any resoponses are welcome.
P.S Is this flasher meeting going to happen at Void on wednesday the 8th
P.S.S I am posting this also as a new thread. Sorry so long
i like this idea ...
i am not us so i can't visit but i was wondering if there was like a yearly cometoghether of webdesigners...a serious cometogher.... if there was i'dd love to go!
(i have never been to a convention!!!)

Is there a flash meeting in NY this week? I noticed some construction or something going on at Halycon last night, but they still looked open.

Patience, dear borax, patience.
No we will not be meeting at VOID tomorrow as once again they are booked for a private party. As a matter of fact, they will be booked for private parties for virtually every night until 2001. However, never fear, we are flexible and creative and we'll simply move our fun elsewhere when need be.
Tomorrow, we'll be meeting at another SoHo lounge named Recess, located at 310 Spring St. between Greenwich and Renwick Sts. Take the C or E train to Spring St. Let's plan to arrive between 8:30-9:30. If you have any questions about who or where the crew is, simply ask the bartender, who will be informed.
Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night...
Tonight, 9pm.

Ask the bartender where the "Flash crew" is seated if it's not painfully obvious...
See everyone there!
On Mondays, Halcyon is always closed and doing some sort of filming or anything else that they do there when their closed.
Anyway, I live in the neighborhood of Halcyon and was really wondering if this thing is going to go off there this Thursday or everyone has given up on Halcyon for good and it will only be Wed. at Recess??

ahhh sooo :D
thanks
Thanks for an enjoyable and productive night at Recess.
It was good to see such a strong response. The New York flash community is burgeoning!
Next week, we'll be having a casual meet at VOID at 10pm on Wednesday. Talk, drink, exchange.
Thursday, we'll be meeting at Halcyon in Brooklyn for a slightly more productive meeting. We plan to set up a laptop and projector and tear into some .flas. So if you'd like to display your work, teach a technique, share some actionscript, or just boast, let me know so I'll know what to expect.
For all of you on the FutureFlash list, you'll be receiving the final information early next week.
For those of you who aren't on the FutureFlash list, but would like to be in the loop, send your email addy:

Halcyon sounds good. Thursday as in tonight, right? I'll bring some of my stuff. If I get a chance to display and talk about it, cool. Being a virgin to these meetings, I realize I might not get the chance, but I'm psyched to check out the flashin' scene.

Maybe you should join the list, MickMurd.
