The landscapes and graphics are just dazzling. Kind of a frosty dreamy feel. Any ideas on the creation or just how to achieve this effect?

which effect? the sites or the genesis' project ones? long exposure has the most to do with those effects. as well as lots of retouching and what nots.
pixelranger does some great PS work on a couple of the desktops for 2advanced.com. Check out the one with the pod thing landing on the grass, there's some really subtle and effective work going on there.
I really like this kind of stuff more than the whizz-bang-zoom-zoom kind of PS work.
yeah that grass one is so amazing.
http://www.2advanced.com/wallpapers/...1600_1200.html
that's the one, I don't like the fact that it's 'letter boxed' like that but some of the detail is amazing. The pod was all hand shaded and that effect on the grass too.
IMO I think those types of things are harder than abstrect 3d objects and blurs.
I like the feel of the letterbox, but it wouldnt hurt to put some type of pattern or texture on the blank parts. Than again, it may have been just the image, and they wanted it to be a WP, so they threw in the bars.
Nice work none the less. I was very impressed with it.
It's simply beautiful and inspiring. I'd just like to know how he gets the forest and the cityscapes to look so, fantasy-ish. I know it's involving but like you said 'aversion', I too really like this style of graphical involvement over the flashy techy stuff.
Shouldn't the thrusters on that pod be pointing the other way in order to slow it's descent? Right now it looks like it's ready to launch itself into the ground. Looks great, though. :)
those are just stabilisers man. The mark VI pod had thrusters on the side, you're obviously getting them mixed up.Quote:

;)
That must be it. I'm always getting those two confused. :)
does pixle ranger 'borrow' images off the web?
If you go to
http://www.realvast.com/flashindex.htm
under the experience...
It's the same image as:
http://home.att.net/~paul.dowling/archive/forest.jpg
If you type in forest wallpaper in google, you will see several versions of this image.
Is this pixelranger PS work, or just good photography?
Who really SHOOTS these images. ?
i remember him saying he takes all the images he uses. and correct me if im wrong, also said he took those images from realvast just for that site. i may be mistaken. but that does raise some suspision.
similar forest but how do u make aforest different to another? anyway if u have both websites open at same time and look at them youll see that the trees are in a different arangment in the background. Also there are the big trees nearer the foreground int he pixel ranger one dont know if they were added or traced round but there are some clear differences.
edit--------------------------------------
soz didnt read your post properly thought u was refering to the genesis website. Does Perfect Vision Graphics have a website?
wasnt saying he stole or anything.. maybe he bought it? or a pic in the series of images? Or, maybe he shot that wallpaper?
nah man those are the same pics.
if you go to the site credits you'll see that some of the photography was by perfect vision graphics.
Next time cruise the "Site Credits". As someone mentioned. I used that graphic but gave credit for it in the "Site Credits". I tried contacting them and they are no longer in business unfortunately otherwise I would have purchased it. The best I could do is to give them a simple credit for that ONE photo. Everything else is by myself. Its called go outside with a digital camera and have fun.
No-tec..just cause you stole some graphics from me and I caught you doesnt mean you need to sit here and search for ways to try and get me back for your mistake. Move on.

im not. please dont bring whatever personal agression you have that doesnt concern the boards onto them. whether it be your sexual or emotional or personal.
i didnt post the thread. i didnt accuse you, i was wondering.
I have no personal agression. You do. This is about the third thread where you've acted like this in regards to me. Only thing I can think of is that you somehow are disgruntled for me catching you. Oh well I guess I"m the dick for you ripping my graphics without even trying to contact me. <sigh>
Maybe you should just move on and not post about this again..cause each time you do..your folly is mentioned yet again.

hehe awesome
gj pixelranger..
i know your in the forum!
Where's a stress ball when you need one eh? Btw, since he seems to be posting to this thread a little bit. Nice work shane, love the site and your pics.
man this thread was almost interesting!
Why did you guys have to crap on it?
Ok, so then perhaps someone can get back to my original reason for this long drawn out post. I really like your graphical touch Shane, I was just kinda looking for some ps direction in your style. I've been toying around trying to achieve that soft and eliquent look so any pointers would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bufffy
Oh well, so you contacted them but got no answer. Kewl. no dis here. Does that mean if i dont get ahold of someone that I can use their picture in a commercial site?
(but give them credit of course)
Not being lame, just tryin 2 understan for my futrue reference.
Thanks.
Well..the image in question was put out on a cd by a company from Dayton, Ohio called "Perfect Vision Graphics". They put out stock CDs of imagery in the early 90s and also ran a BBS where they dispersed their graphics. In 1994 that CD was sold for $49 and had 2000 nature images on it. There were 2 CDs to be exact. Volume I and Volume II of the Perfect Vision Graphics collection. About 1997-1998 the company merged with a web design company in Ohio and they stopped selling cds.
http://web.archive.org/web/199806300...ww.perfect.com
Some of the imagery from those CD is still floating around the net. I've tracked down 3 images in my hunt to contact them a couple of months ago. Basically..i've searched all over the net.. I've called any number they ever had. I've done 411 searches for the names of the 2 owners of the company (Robin & Richard Reston). I've e-mailed everyone that was ever mentioned in association with PVG and have come up with absolutely NOTHING. I think its pretty obvious I did my research on this otherwise I wouldn't have even bothered to use that beautiful image.
Therefore..since I could no longer purchase their CD (which I would have quickly done) the best I can do is give them credit on the site where the picture was used. I mean I even did searches in every major stock photo cd library to see if someone had acquired the rights to their images.
No-Tec..i wasn't really trying to slag you..but you really seem to have a chip on your shoulder as a result of "the incident". Then you over-reacted at the simple poke of my finger. Kinda like Jello.
As far as my PS techniques go..well crap..i've got no clue. I'm self taught, and I just sort of eyeball things. I dont have some mysterious process. With the 2 genesis scenes currently up.. I start with a picture. I then go and create or fabricate new things in the picture adding to it. I create all of the version of the Stop lights for example. Not based upon pictures from that night..but I create them by hand and add them to the scene. In the case of the harbor..the entire port was lit up.. so I created a version where it was dark. In both cases about 25% of the scene was manufactured simply by playing aroun din Photoshop.
In the case of the 2A wallpapers I did everything from a couple of images I PURCHASED from a stock photography resource.

And I play with them until they look right. Here are some examples of what the pods started as..and ended as. Pretty fun stuff

BIG 2A project I'm finishing up this weekend.. hopefully after this I will have time to do more art related projects rather than websites. :)

nice work.
no i actually completely forgot about what happened a while back pxlrngr. But I don't feel its's right to bring it up here and slam me in front of everyone when you are just as guilty as me. no matter the cercumstances, without written conscent it's illigal. i hardly call that a poke when you bring up personal issues with me in the forums just to make a jab and make me look like the lesser.
i had no hard feelings with you whatsoever. i forgot about you and went on my merry way. i wasnt accusing you of anything b4 you jumped on me. I was just wondering what was up b/c that kid brought up a good point.
Thanks for the response Shane. It's the creative process that's really interesting in any work so I thank you for yours.
now who votes for a shane vs no-tec thread???? ;)
peace.
Haha, go for it.
What exactly did you rip No-Tec? I'm not passing judgement as its quite easy to make mistakes in life and I hope everyone else feels the same way.
Just let it go, people. Yes, everyone does make mistakes. Do we really need to keep dragging up the subject?
And u do all this in Ps?, no 3D soft whatsoever? man u got some illustarating skills, do u actually illustrate them before u use Ps? (on paper) if not have u tried it? i think u would come up with something good.Quote:

Phreakdevil, I can come close to gauranteeing you that he doesn't do it all in photoshop, he only used it to combine and compose the final image however I may be wrong. I imagine he would use 3DMax or something similar to make the 3d elements (hoverships) and render them, before importing the rendered image into photoshop and adding the background, typogrpahy etc. Just a question to PixelRanger... do you render the images and then colour them seperately? For example pod3.jpg and pod4.jpg are the same except the later is coloured and has the thrusters "on".
Woah!
Shane is cool with the picture No-tek. I have used it myself too. As a matter of fact that dude Paul from the old photo studio is a cool guy. Shane also did everything legal according to the digital Millenium Act in the situation of a picure that is no longer an asset.
