well you might get that wish delivered if MM manages to upset a good portion of their users. seems right now they do own the market, but are still trying to please everyone with this mx 2004. jury is still out of course until we all can get our hands dirty with it.

the hardcore coders are like "yeah now i can maybe respect AS2.0" and the creatives are freakin out. i'm somewhere in the middle.

just reading this 'review' (though it's more like a press release) and I hope the idea of using this 'screens' system for different application states is interesting (though the preview makes it sound like a glorified power point), I hope it's more than just a special class of movie clip.

I'm liking the forms and screens and such. I only use one frame anymore; no need for a timeline. For application development it's the way to go...

I've been using different keyframes for application states, which works well, but this opens that up a bit.

Keep in mind that all of the beta testers will still be under an NDA, and only allowed to discuss what is up on the site. So any "reviews" that you might be seeing now are purely rehashed press releases.

It almost seems like Macromedia is hoping to flood the information channels, lest someone who has actually used the product come out and say anything negative.

But all I'm seeing right now are run downs of feature lists with absolutely no depth to them.

As far as I know NDA's never 'expire'. Once something is released to the public domain or you get permission from Macromedia to release it; nothing is to be shown / said. Even once the product is out there are things like, things that might have been included in some beta version but were scrapped; things that will probably be held til the next version; bugs that Macromedia know about but haven't fixed for the release, general things that were discussed amongst the beta testers. Things like that. But whatever; I'll be waiting patiently at or around the 15th of September.

the day before my birthday... you know what would be a great birthday gift.

yea; there have been some people giving "real reviews." i.e. Scott Manning. But a lot of the stuff popping up have been based on just the info people have been reading from Macromedia &c. We won't get a real review until someone who has actually used the product for the past couple of months can speak; or until we get our hands on it.

Bill and I just got off the phone. We're trying to have his review of the whole suite up tomorrow. There was an issue getting back in to the prerelease info, which is the other cause for delay.

anyone know if there are any new vector drawing tools? maybe such as the corner round and straight chamfer? anything besides stupid pre-built in effects for the timeline?

Wasn't there something about being able to customize your drawing tools? I'd imagine people will be making some pretty nifty stuff... In due time...

Yeah, sorry, I thought aria's was the first post in the thread since the last time I read it. I just now read backwards and saw the context.

Elizabeth and Scott both had access prior to release of both apps, so they are based on hands-on. Elizabeth had Dreamweaver for about 2 weeks and Scott had Fireworks for about 3 days (we decided at the FK conf). Granted that's not months though.

More detailed info should be available soon.

Like, what ever happened to making Flash a better animation tool? I was hoping for some After Effects-style stuff to be integrated, but this release seems to add very little that actually interests me as a motion guy.

And when the hell will buttons have rollout frames? I'm just getting sick and tired of making all my buttons MC's, lol.

As an aside, SWISHmax has sprite-buttons that can have frames for press, release, rool over, rollout etc etc. That makes it easy to make roll-over/roll-out buttons etc.

This is the only reason why I am going to upgrade. This will decrease my workflow 500% at my job. Pretty much all I do at work is convert word documents to HTML and it's a royal pain, even if you use the "clean word html" commands.
