I agree....it takes me "MONTHS" to add code to a simple button now..when it used to be only "onRelease ()"...etc..etc..
now everytime I try to mess with buttons..I get AS errors up the wazoo! SHAME ON YOU MM......SHAME!!!!!!!!

Hi everybody,
Havent got the chance to upgrade myself to Flash 2004 as yet.
Offcourse new features are expected but very much annoyed to hear what Chris had to say about linear undo. That can be a pain everywhere!!!
Hope a patch comes out to restore it to what it was before!
Where is the equivelant to Modify > Scene in 2004? I can't find it :o
W.
where is the "equivelent" to just makeing a regular
frame tween animation..with alpha fade out? I cant even find where to set "effects"...I stumbled upon something called "time line effects"..but it was the same..it was like a self contained movie clip...except you could set any frame actions.... BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
I just wanna know how to do a simple tween using color or alpha..or whatever....WITHOUT using that P.O.S time line effects thing!!
DANG IT!....... SPIT!!!

Whispers another good reason I didn't upgrade. And I really have mixed feelings, been buying the latest Flash since version 3.
the more I play with it..the more I wanna SPIT!!
I think (potentially) it could be a great program (MX 2004 Pro)..but only if you are a serious coder/programmer do I think you will benefit from MX 2004 Pro.
I love the "application" building tools...but again..Im not a prgrammer..and have never programmed in JAVA (closest equal)

Been using it for a couple of months now and the UI definitely has annoying habits. Having no normal mode for actionscript is the most serious mistake they've made in this build. I find myself going back and using MX often, which never happened when we upgraded Flash 4, 5 or MX.
The new features aren't worth the upgrade fee, unlike with all previous versions. They brought it out too fast, they should have waited another year and added more new features. Dreamweaver MX 2004 is very good though, I wouldn't go back to DW MX now.
I agree..the no NORMAL MODE for AS is a real PAIN....it really helped me learn some of the syntax..seing it visually..indstead of trying to get it right the first time...and not knowing..
I still cant believe they took of the effects panel...so you cant even make a normal (however many frame) tweened animation...no more alpha fades..or anything..you have to use that STINKING timeline effects thing..which I hate to death..cant add frame actions on ssomething that doesnt have frames.. =(
Out of curiousity..why do you think DW MX 2004 is better? I dont use anywhere to its full potential...and still actually use MX..just wondering what makes it so much beter than before..
-whispers-
Yep - NORMAL MODE for AS is soooo needed. It takes an age to code anything, and then there's all the debugging errors that have crept in.
MX 2004 - feture laden, yes. easy to adapt to no. I will be using old MX, not that MM will care as the sale has been made and it's all too late.
dont support unfinished/buggy software. if it is not to your expectations return it for a refund. i did, it was done with one easy phone call.
this link has return info and links for #s based on how you purchaced the software.

Still waiting for word that the undo has been
changed back to the way it was.
Until then I won't purchase another version.
Chris
I will NOT buy another version until the following are conditions have been met:
1.)Normal actions panel
2.)Regular effects panel comes back
3.) consistent copy paste WITHOUT resizing/scaling (of whatever was
copied) when pasted into a nested clip or even back out to _root.
4.)when you use the arrows keys they ONLY move your object by 1 pixel
at 100% instead of just random increments of NOT whole pixels..
I need to stop now..I already feeling spitting

Really sounds like they have left the graphic designers behind. I am sticking with MX.

without a second thought....but thats OK...cause when another Mfg. comes out with something similar who caters to US designers..they will be unhappy. Dont get me wrong..I have always been a MM supporter. But they are off their rocker....and why cant it cater to both? I think the APP support is GREAT....because Ive always felt FLASH could be used for so much more than just web or intro design.
But to 86 all the tools that are reliable and necessary is just CRAZY!
I mean come on..... even if it was designed for DEVELOPERS....even thay have to start somewhere with adding AS no?
and whats with those LAME a$$ timeline effects? I understand cutting donw on time to make those...but to take away any sort of frame tween is just stupid! (unless its a motion tween of _x or _y placement)

Graphic innovation made Flash, but they don't seem to be interested in this angle any longer. Sure they added some lame effects, that most of us can do without thinking about, but they didn't enhance any of the graphic tools. I am disappointed.
where can u get it for cheaper?I really want it but its too expensive
OK just got round to updating to MX 2004 Pro..
and I love it.
Ok some minor things annoy me like the undo, but since I love playing with actionScript, the new version suits me ok, as i find if i dont get the code right first time, I enjoy trying to solve the problem myself( been doing this since F5), instead of relying on Flash to do the coding for me.
sorry but a thumbs up from me :)
(suppose the factor of the boss paying for my version helps in making me happier with MX2004 Pro :p )
Macromedia have successfully continued to improve their product once again. The only thing I did notice is that the action scripting editor does not allow for ease and use of scripts as I remember the previous version of having. I did like the option to switch from expert and beginner mode. I did try to look for this feature in the new one and could not find it, if there is something like that there feel free to let me know.
Cheers

MX 2004 is better and when you are learning and using flash it is good to keep up with the technology standards of the software on the market today.
Hope this gave you some insight.
