No, it's ok. I discovered that all people have to do is just move the preloader into the area that will be covered up by the image to get rid of it. The only time it will be seen is at the beginning then. I have language in the tutorial about this.

I think it's finished bud! I don't think we need anything else in it. I am very happy with it, this is exactly what I've been looking for (and more) for at least two years. I feel like I've actually contributed something now with my notes in the file-Yippey!

I think the next time I ask a question to the guru's I will first explain what I know and then that will tell them whether I'm clueless or not, hense, they can take the right course of action. I think I may have caused some of the other moderators to become frustrated with my problem because I may not have explained my skill level first. Might have saved them a lot of typing in the wrong direction.

Hi,

I have been reading and studying the work from this thead.
I'm a terrible coder and have been trying to do the following too:

on click 1

load an external image1 that fades in

on click 2
loads external image2- fades in and external image 1 fades out

and so on....

If you could guide me in the right direction I would very much appreciate it.

By the way shipstern, I'm very jealous to hear you are hitting the waves, I grew up in Avalon - Sydney but now living in Germany. I do surf in a river believe it or not but at the moment its too cold.

It's already done man! Check it out, download the file above called "slideshowsuperdeluxe v1.fla" It's in the thread above your first one. There are plenty of instructions, all you have to do is creat the images more/less.

Like I said, I must be looking at the wrong places, these files seem to be more for a slide show.

That I don't want, I want to be able to click and load the external images at any time.

D'oh! I got you. I have a sample of this sort of thing on a site of mine but the images don't fade into one another. Basically, thumbnails load into one area of the page, the user clicks on one and a larger version of it loads on a different part of the page, but, there's no dissolve like you are looking for. Maybe shipstern has some ideas.

I know this is an older thread, but it's a great one and a great slideshow app. One question...what AS would you use (I'm guessing stop();) and where would it go to stop the show after the last picture?

I have added a new flag variable to the slide show.

stopOnLast

It can be set to true or false. Setting to true will set the slideshow to stop on the last image.
To start the slideshow looping again you would need to:
//set the variable to false
stopOnLast=false;
//start the slideshow again.
startSlideshow();

The attached .fla has the slideshow with the added variable. If you look at the ACTIONS layer Frame 1 line 32. You will see it there.
stopOnLast=true;

Looking at the .fla again sort of tweaked my interest!!

So I made some additions and changes.
slideshowSuperDeluxV2

The slideshow can now import/load .jpg files or .swf files.
This is accomplished by setting the variable imageType on line 34.
imageType=".jpg";
or
imageType=".swf";
This means they could actualy load a .swf animation if they wanted!

Also I have seperated the actual slideshow stuff and placed it in a folder in the library. So this way if someone wants to use it in their .fla they can just drag the folder from one library to the other. Then place the slideshow mc on the timeline. This also means that as it is a seperate MC they can place it on a layer to suit their design needs or even have multiple slideshows all running at the same time on different layers or on different keyframes.

Was also thinking that I could easily add in the ability (optional) to have titles loaded for each image (above the image) from an external XML file, for those that want image titles without making them part of the original .jpg or .swf.

For the user it would be as simple as setting another flag ie:
withTitles.

They could even have a choice of external title file type ie a simple text file written in note pad if they don't know how to write an XML file or an XML file.
I have not added that yet ... what do you think.

Thought you may be interested to see what I am working on lately ... a full blown image maped 3D API for Flash MX. It has full first person camera, realtime lighting, collision detection,dynamicly loaded .jpg or .swf files to object faces and more.

Hey! The 3D thing is very cool! A bit complex for me I think but cool!!!

Regarding the slide show, sure go and add the XML thing, the only request I have is that you add documentation as I have. This thing is turning into a full blown application I think!
