Hi Blanius
Nice, extraordinary, you got it.
Congratulations
Rui
Problem Bret:
(Just for reference, I have dial-up so this could make a difference)
After it says Loading Images... for a while, then it starts flickering (the loading images). After about a minute of that, a picture flashed on the screen then a border of a picture faded in, (the outer box of pixels) then the rest of the picture showed up then almost instantly went away again (leaving the border). The border faded to a new picture (again just the border), flashed, then faded the border away.
If that made any sense to you, I hope it helps you make it work for dial-up connections.
EDIT:
Alright, after letting it play though for about 5 minutes, some of the pictures fade in how they're supposed to and some still just the borders.
Hmm that's a little wierd. I'll look at it again. I noticed that if I let it run in the background and switch to another window when I come back I see something similar to what you are describing. Feels a little like it's looping and running out of memory or something, (If looping it would keep making more child movies)
if anyone want to take a stab at working with it I just put it up in a zip file including the PHP code
http://bretlanius.com/flash/3dfaslideshow.zip
1) First clear your cache to test results.
2) It seems as though your effect on the first photo is timing out short or long or is being interrupted by the "Wait Until" in the off position. Turn the Wait Until on (sunken position)
Remember, effects can also be used as delays without have to use the delay function.
3) Long fade-ins are CPU intensive and may display jerking on machines that have several apps open. Make fade-ins quicker.
Like that gear.
Thanks for the feedback. However there are no "effects" applied. The entire movie is done via scripting, it's the only way to work with created movie clips that I'm aware of. The Fading up and down are done in script by setting the alpha value. As for the first Slide I am aware of the issue with that, what happens is the first slide is set to 100% right away and then immediately startst to fades, I probably need to make a small change and check the fade Up value before incrementing rather than the fade down as that would probably give the first slide a moment before fading out. The fade speed is can be adjusted via a value a_rate in the start script. I tested at 10 but it is currently set to 2, this value is the amount that the alpha is changed per frame. 10 is really quick and 2 is fairly slow.
Would you verify your flash plugin version for me? current I believe is 7,0,19,0Quote:

Hi Blanius
I'm again.
I have LASH PLAYER Version 7,0,19,0 installed and my connection is adsl 512Kbps.
Loading is fast.
Unique bug detected is only in first slide, is not a bug, i think the problem is it is showed few time.
Now, my opinion about showing time: for me the best would be fast fade and each one slide be showed more time.

If that's the latest version, it's what I have. I just downloaded an update last week.Quote:

I thought about varying the time shown. Will think about it. Feel Free to look a the code and play around with the show script..... I think it's working ok not sure what the cause of the problem that needofhelp is seeing.
this problem seems to be an issue of depth. Maybe can be solved with swapdepths.
That may be what it is. I was switching between the forum window and your slideshow window so that could be what it is. It didn't clear up though for a very long time. I'm guessing it probably has to do with dial-up somehow. My computer is brand new with 512mb dual channel ram and bla bla bla. So it shouldn't have anything to do with the computer itself.Quote:

I'm trying out the example here at school. (Macintosh OS X) and it works fine besides the fact that it's slow. (That's just the computer though.)
Just a small comment:
If it's not a ton of trouble, it would be good to have a loading bar or some sort of loading animation because when I was viewing it last night, I thought it was frozen.
I've added a swapdepth command I think it might help, let me know
You mean instead of the static loading images text?Quote:

Hi Blanius
Thank you very much
Rui
Beautiful! That's what I had in mind. Now I know it's actually doing something!Quote:

110% A+
Was thinking now about going back and starting over from scratch.
Originally I was going to just use 4 slides and fade them up and down loading graphics as needed when they where hidden, but when I was stuggling to get ANYTHING to work I simplified the idea and just created a movie for each image. The volume of images may be the problem we're seeing with ghost images and what looks like a border (actually a 0 alpha image that is smaller on top of the visible one blocking the view)
We'll see if I feel up to fooling with it
Hi Blanius
Please take a look at this:

and please let me know your comments about.
Thanks in advance.

Bret,
I haven't looked at the source yet, but I tried twice to view the slide show, this last time I gave it 12 minutes loading time before giving up.
How many photos is it loading(what's the file size)? For broadband users it might be alright, but 12+ minutes to view a slide show is an excessive amount time(IMHO).

Hi
Sorry, i go check the problem.
As i have adsl i canīt have the exact loading time.
Rui
Hi zoranvedek
I cleaned up temporary internet files and after i teste loading slidshow from net.
I got 10 seconds.
Total photos: 17
Total Kb: 200
But as i said, i have adsl / 512 Kbps.
Could someone teste for me again, please?...
Was a temporary server problem?...
I don't know...
I waiting your kind testes resultes.
Thanks Rui
It loads in about 10-15 secs for me.
There are some issues with it I see and I think I know where they come from.
rui_eduardo's slideshow looks fine.
I am going to rework the whole thing from scratch using just a few child movies and just pre-loading two images at a time. So long as the size of the images is under about 100k they should have plenty of time to load.
Or maybe not I'll have to think on it some more.
The main reason I went with loading ALL photos was it seemed the only way to be sure that an image was loaded and ready to be resized, which was the main concern and concept, resizing images(movies) so that the original size/format would not matter.
Hi Blanius
Thanks for your teste and reply.
I go change the concept of mine, too.
It's not good a slow connection must wait 20 seconds or more for total loading.
Now, i go try another concept.
This one have to show the first one as it is loaded and second just it is loaded and the same for remaining.
That i intend is, if in first 5 seconds you have 2 slides loaded, slideshow have only these two and show them, but passed 10 seconds if you have 6 slides, your slideshow show these 6 slides and go on.
It's very difficult explain when we do not write correct english.
I hope you can understand.
Bibi
Rui
well basically you need to apply modified looping to check what has already loaded - sort of like as with flash4 preloaders techniques but with script.
Hi
Please kind check this new version:
http://www.sagos.pt/TESTES/slideshow/slidejpg2.html
Is best then 1st version?...

I'm waiting your kind testes and usual help.
Thanks in advance

and please follow:
Menus/English/Photos/Sketches
and please give me your feedback about download time,
look, if is workable or not, etc., etc.
I thank you very much in advance.

Looks good. You might want to HIDE the slideshow when anything else is selected on the menu
Bret,
I don't know if you've changed anything or not, but it loaded in under a minute just now. Thought you'd want to know.
-J
Hi blanius
Thanks a lot, i forgot it.
Rui
Haven't changed a thing (I don't think I did anyway)Quote:

Hi Blanius
http://www.sagos.pt/TESTES/xml_teste.html
Concerning my slideshow working as child movie, i have noted a great faill, any time we click it on menu, it creates new movies and photos are loaded again into that movies. If we click 5 times, this happen 5 times.
I go try solve this, puting slideshow flags on main movie.
I think with this, any time we click it on menu, main movie knows than photos are already loaded and order slideshow movement (changing), only.
I keep forum informed about.
Rui
