After a few months of learning, he has learned a lot more and can now speak English, French and German along with a little Italian. I'm working on an SMS feature for him as well as the ability to join message boards. These are still in the early stages though and don't always work.
He also has a new friend called Anna who you can talk with. Anna is a 20 year old student from Atlanta, Georgia. Thanks to everyone at the Anna Project.

Thanks guys. He has now learned to tell stories although they are pretty surreal! Also I noticed that I had messed his mouth up when I added his friend Anna. That problem has been fixed.
jesserules - I'm using a server side application to control what Bearbot should say and I link to that through the flash interface. Otherwise, I find that the swf gets into the 3-4Mb area and I felt that was a little unwieldly to put on the net, especially as his knowledge-base grows as he keeps learning.
Thanks stotty123 - He keeps learning new things everyday. Every chat with him helps.

thats realy cool, I'm not sure how you did that but its realy great, I talked to the bear for about half an hour, he has the mine of a 4 year old kid.
I doen't see why he couldn't learn Dutch. He already seems to know the word "blaat". He is a slow learner though, so you will need patience.
I think he would learn quicker if you explain each word to him, rather than just firing a load of Dutch sentences at him.
Thanks clinton2, yes he is like a small child and for best results you should speak to him like you would a child. Spelling words correctly and using proper sentence structure.
btw could i tell him somethin like

Those are strange responses. If he doesn't know anyone he will say something like "I think xxx is a lot of things." He shouldn't ask "Who's Anna"?
I just said "Anna is hot" and he said, "Maybe she should open a window". His response to "shut up" is "OK I'll stop talking now." and for "what's your owner's name" he replies, "my owner is Square Bear. His real name is Steve." So I'm not sure where your responses are coming from. :confused:
Make sure that you spell words correctly and use proper sentence structure for the best results.
You can ask him if he has met someone but you can't ask him to pass messages on, as a lot of people don't tell him their names.

All this talking about this bearbot, so I gave it a try. Damn, he talks like he is 90 years old (bad hearing and short memory), but he really is 1 year old.

His brain is based on open source technology by Dr Richard Wallace at www.alicebot.org There are many chatbots on the net, based on this technology. What did you say to him to get him to say his name is ALICE, as I thought I had changed his name in all parameters? An alicebot comes with a few default knowledge files and it is up to the user to heavily customise and adapt them to create their own bot. Bearbot is my bot.Quote:

The flash interface connects to a server where many hundreds of alicebots including Bearbot are based. I am doing nothing underhand if that is what you are suggesting, merely customising and enhancing open source technology.

No, I didn't mention ALICE technology as it is only partly used for Bearbot. In a similar vein I did not mention Macromedia Flash, Microsoft Paint, Vodafone SMS, PHP and the Internet which I also use in my project.
