Button inside a mc

hi

i bet there is a very simple solution to my problem, but i just can't figure it out:

i want to do the following:

i want to have a mc on my timeline. when you move the mouse over it, it goes to the second frame and shows a field with some text, which it contains. when you move the mouse out of this new field, it goes back to frame one, being the small button again.

that of course is no problem.

but: i want to have a link inside the text of frame 2. so if you go over the mc this new field appears where you should be able to click on the link and get to a website.
i tried it in many different ways, but none of it would even allow me to perform any action on that link. i tried it with a button and a mc inside the mc but the button wouldn't even show it's over and push state.

i'm desperate. please help me or give me a hint.

I think you probably have a path issue....try to trace your buttons using trace(this);
also an example of a path from the main timeline to a button within an mc would be like this ..._root.mymc.my_btn.Onpress...........from the mc to the main time line would be _root.my_btn.onPress and within the mc would be this.my_btn.onPress.

you should probably repost this I can't make it work the way you want..whats wrong with making the blue symbol a button then on over the green circle appears then onPress an action takes place?......that way is no problem.

doesn't solve my problem (i think).

i want only the grenn part to be the trigger art, but the over-state should be stay activated till the cursor leaves the whole button (including the red outer circle)

why or how should i repost it?

here you go I think the trace says test now though just change it to whatever you want.

sorry I was a little bit too excited and forgot to attach it the first time

i'm sorry, but this is not what i intended. i had it that way already somewhen, but now it doesn't matter wether you click on the inner or the outer circle. it will always say test. but it's only supposed to say test, when you click the inner circle.

sorry if that wasn't clar, but i thought it was.

maybe someone, or you calmchess, can have another look

I don't know how to make it work another way although I would like to know the answer I'm really sorry that I couldn't help.

don't know why, but your talking about "doing it another way" has made me think about loading a new mc when the button is over the link and it shouldn't be a problem to have a link in there.

problem is you can't say:
someButton.onRelease... if someButton is not present.
Your button being on the second frame of that movie makes it "not present"

Solution:
Have that button on frame 1 also and have it invisible with:
someButton._visible = false;

or have that someButton.onRelease function in the same frame that the button sits.
