Now Im not sure how anyone can set about proving that these remains or this tomb is the last resting place / body of Christ, but if they can; does any one else see the implications of this?

3 problems preventing us from ever finding jesus
1.)its not real?
2.)if it was real we would need either god or marys dna to test to make sure it was real
3.)Its been what 2007 years since he died? any sort of dna would be long gone to test
So basicly whats going on is they found a tomb and are making claims that its jesus based off of 2007 year old information

This discovery was made 27 years ago. It has been resurrected (pun intended) for today's "anything sensational to attract viewers" television world. With Easter just around the corner the lack of a big book or movie like the past few years has left producers scrambling to come up with something to fill the void.
Cameron knows how to make money...the BBC did a documentary on this years ago and no one really paid any attention to it, now hes got a hold of it with "shocking new DNA technology" its like CSI meets Jesus, its BS but he'll make millions off of it

Even if they prove definitively that it's Jesus' remains I'm sure the Church will either denounce it as false evidence or come up with some story like it's just a husk he shed then was reborn anew or some such thing. :rolleyes:

Seriously... the Church is in a weird dilemma actually. They probably won't allow scientific research to be done on it, if it were real. Nor would they believe any scientific data... if it were real.
Even if they found the remains with ID, Passport and Drivers license with it the church would deny it, because let's face it, killing off the resurrected golden goose could really ruin the business.
Nah, finding Jesus' bits wouldn't kill off the Church.

Most theologians and historians think this whole thing is bunk. It's come up before and, as someone else said, it's just being resurrected for the sake of publicity.
Saying this is Jesus' family grave is like saying you found David Beckham's grave because you found one with David written on it. It's hogwash.
I'd like nothing better than if someone had found Jesus' grave and somehow proved god doesn't exist. This just isn't it.

actually there was a documentary about this. This issue was kind of popular some years ago. There's even a movie with Antonio Banderas as a catholic priest that goes to investigate a tomb were Jesus was supposed to be buried.
When so much time has passed, and so many evidence has been lost, you can probably get pretty close to prove that is Jesus, but there will always be some doubt, or other evidence that proves the opposite. So, it all depends on what you want to believe. Just as JFK conspiracy, or 9-11, opinions will always be divided, because no matter how hard you try, you'll never know what really happened, so it all depend on what you want to see. The truth is not absolute. Catholics believe in what says in the bible. The believe that angels talked to people back in those days, but if I say I'm talking to one that appears only to me, I'd be labeled as crazy nowadays. People say Jesus couldn't wake up from the day 3 days after dying. Didn't someone here posted a thread a few days ago about a young guy whose heart started beating again a few days after he died?
I think there's pretty solid evidence that Jesus did infact existed. But everything else is just blurry, and it just lives because people want to believe. I don't care if Jesus' body is really there. Maybe that'll prove the church is a bunch of liars, which I've always thought, but maybe that would also reinforce the faith in my religion, in the message he gave. I'd think that his teachings are real, because there's proof he was real, and that some things written in the bible are just fairy tails and aren't to be believed literally.

Physical evidence contradicts the whole idea of faith. Let's say for a moment it is Jesus' body. Does that change anything in the Bible that's relevant specifically to its teachings? Or just some parameters about the story and the players in it.
That's my problem with fundamentalists, they take their lessons from the letter, not the meaning. If you don't believe in 'Intelligent Design' (aka creationism), you're going to hell because you don't believe in what the Bible says down to the letter. Nevermind the 10 commandments, the lessons in Jesus' sermons or any of the fables told in the Bible. Oh no. If you think we're related to monkeys, you're going to hell, just for that. That alone will lead you to reject morality.
It's perfectly OK to be a preacher, however, and pay for sex. As long as you go to 'rehab' for gayness.
Quick question - I thought the old story was of Jesus' brother's grave, not his own? Although the items in question were forund 20+ years ago, has this claim ever been made before?

They were two different finds. The brother one was found to be a hoax. The other was claimed to be Jesus' family back when it was found but experts involved found there to be insufficient evidence to support that claim.
