Project: Get Into Magazines...

ok... so a friend of mine and myself were talking and we kept saying how a lot of the stuff in the magazines - take your pick: Computer Arts, Digit, Layers, Dynamic Graphics, Ad!dict, iDN... and so forth - we could try to get our stuff in those magazines as well.

So... it hit me. With all of the photography gurus - Wannabe, EVP, Lefteye, Geezer, Carly; all of the vector gurus - Natsia, label; all of the photoshop gurus - Ondraedan, Fearless, Flashkid; why haven't any of you guys gotten into any damn magazines... for exposure at least?

So... if you have been "published"... post when.

If you haven't... let's do it.

I'm having a half induced memory of someone having thier pic on the cover of Parade.

It was a pick of a dog other then that I can't recall.

Fruitloops... he got into Parade... last year when I was traveling, so anytime between March through August of last year.

I was in the FK calendar. That is about the biggest mass published thing I think. I was actually going to post something in the photo forum about ways to make money selling photos or getting published etc.

Just remembered for work the past 3 years I have been put in Accessories The Show magazine just as a little advert and blurb for the company saying that they will be attending the shows. I have my picture featured on their little post card that they don't really use. I do a biyearly one page thing to send out to all our buyers featuring product photos etc but I am no graphic designer so it usually really sucks. One last thing work related that didn't get published per say, but I guess I made a product look so appealing to National Geographic that they chose it as one of the products they sell in their catalog now.

i've had many of my photos published, but they're in regional brochures in regards to tourism and are related to my job, so it's not a big deal at all.

i'm all for getting my stuff out there more...i've been thinking of getting some stocks together and selling them online, but it's usually just a fleeting thought.

I got this peice of artwork in a local magazine a few years ago... mind you I think it was more of a content filler...

I've sold a few of my photos to various rafting companies in California to go into their catalogs. My unique POV (read: shooting from my kayak in the water) tends to stand out a bit.

I should have some photos in this year's catalog set...

I also take photos for clients websites, but those are drab and boring.

What was funny back in the day. I'd always get into media for lesser activities. I picked up a gig with a trad jazz quartet. Hated the band loved the material. My picture gets on the cover of the local "Entertainment" section. All though it was the first / last/ only time I played with those ***holes.

I was filmed spinning za for News filler for national pizza day. It got picked up by the nationals

A website I built in something like 2000 had a small feature in "TV Hits" magazine. It was a fansite for the boy band Blue. It was back in the day when I knew nothing, so it had a Flash intro, but the magazine said it was "the best intro" they'd ever seen to a fansite.

I have a photo in Let's Go London, that's a bit more professional.

And that's about it.

don't do illustration or graphic design, although when I did work at Twelve:Ten I did contribute towards some published stuff but none I could claim was mine.

Oddly enough, never been published for things in my forte.
I was in the newspaper the day I was born because my dad was the first male allowed into the delivery room (don't know if it was just our city or what).
I'd regularly show up in paper, once for a story on my church, another for a diving event I competed in and one for a speed skating team I captained.

A piece of software I worked on was reviewed in the first issue of MacAddict.
A couple pieces of 3d vector loops I submitted here were published on a clip art CD.
The notes I kept while working on a cibachrome attenuated laser imager got edited into the first manual for the process.

An old client of mine now runs a local magazine (read ad whore) who will do a one page profile on local talent. I keep bugging him to hook me up. :p

ok... how about we start listing out places that are accepting submissions. even longshot submissions... for photography, illustration, photoshop, and other creative genres.

Are we just doing mags... what about books... Their's things like http://www.pictoplasma.com/ They bring a book out each year.. Its just pages of characters.. But I've seen works from a few different website in. … Plus I’ve always wanted to do a graphic’s book… maybe we could all get together and see what we could do.. maybe take a page each?? .. just an Idea.

I'm creating a flash magazine for the company I work for here in Maui, Cabrinha Kiteboarding. (design, layout, programming etc.) It's not my photography yet. But maybe soon....

I remember browsing that cgtalk forums when they were in the works for the first Expose. I would love to pick up the whole series for some nice coffee table pieces.

I have Expose 3 on my coffee table. No one can seem to resist picking it up... multiple times.

Adobe has announced the final date for entries to 2007’s Adobe Design Achievement Awards as 27 April. This is the last opportunity to submit work for the software giant’s annual student design competition.

The first-prize winners in each category will receive $5,000 and Adobe software, and all the winners and finalists will receive a trip to San Francisco for the prize ceremony, which will take place on 2 August, 2007. The winners and finalists will also receive a tour of leading creative companies in San Francisco, including Pentagram and Goodby, Silverstein and Partners.

The competition is open to students in post-secondary education and features the following categories: Animation, Digital Illustration, Digital Photography, Environmental Graphics and Packaging, Interactive and Web Design, Live Action, Motion Graphics, Print Design Multi-Page, and Print Design Single Page.

I know it does sound bad to charge a student entry to a comp... but in truth it stops lots of crap being sent in to be judged, I work at a college and if it was free we would submit every students work regardless of quality, with a fee we only approach students that can create work that stands a chance in winning.
