It may have something to do with marketing and image. Those who pay with cash may not be the young and trendy group that Apple want to represent.
There are other things that have limits on them as well. People don't get too upset about that... they just take another person with them to get more than the limit states.
And about the "no-cash" ordeal... get a debit card. Deposit the cash, go to the store, buy two. Get a gift Visa Card/Visa Buxx card, get two more.

how can you buy a cell phone without some sort of credit card/debit card?
i was under the impression that if you had ****ty credit you couldnt get a cell phone from the major dealers, only one of those pay as you go phones.. is that incorrect?
You get phones seemingly cheaper when you buy a plan with it. They tack on the rest of the phone price to the end of your contract.
You can go in and buy any phone without a contract, you just pay much more upfront.
Thats why replacement phones and phones outside of a contract are so expensive. Your actually buying the new phone, then you have to pay for them to add it to your contract.
yes that is incorrect. To qualify for one of their free phones with a 2 year contract deals you will need reasonable credit.. but if you are buying a phone upfront they will be more than happy to sign you up.. if you are late on your monthly bill though they will suspend your service.Quote:

Honestly, how wouldn't any normal adult over 18 not have the ability to open a checking account? And sorry if I'm not sympathetic for any 16 year old that can't get a cell phone without getting mommy and daddy involved. Hell, I was driving a junker and dropping my quarters in the pay phone at that age.

I have a friend who's 27 y/o and a DJ at a strip club who claims that having a bank account is saying you're unable to manage your own money so you have to have other people do it for you . :( . he's such a fk'up
I'm not sure about the US, but in Britain, you need to be 18 years old or over to sign up for the iPhone contract.

Any expensive purchase I have ever made has always been in 100% cash, including the 900$ that I had to pay to fix my car with was in cash. I only use plastic on piddly things like lunch and stuff from the store thats cheap. I would never pay for an iphone with anything other than cash, and it looks like I don't have to worry about that...
