Kevin costner while making the movie Waterworld, set to work on helping create a device that purifies/cleans sea water. now with the Crisis in the gulf Kevin Costner is getting to ****ing work. The army just signed off and now his devices are being put to use to clean up the oil spill.

Makes d-bag pieces of garbage all talk and no walk mother lovers like sean penn look even worse when they are out with a dixi cup helping flood victims for 1 day a year.

He's no Dean Kamen. Dude invented a machine that convert ANYTHING wet into drinkable water.

Was that the guy on The Colbert Report a long time ago and he dumped a whole bag of Doritos in it?

You'd need the 200 gallon a minute one and somehow get it not to clog with,,,fish and otherthings that show up on the surface.
Even then 200 gallons a minute still would take a very very long time to make a slight dent in the current spill.

Well, I guess you are taking the whole thing very literally. I think they were making the assumption that everyone understands that the machine that's barely as big as Costner himself is not expected to clean the entire Gulf of Mexico. The assumption there is that if the tech works, scale it so it can work for THIS application.

If they are expecting that version of the machine to do the job, then I'll just hang out at Costner's unicorn farm while he scrubs out the gulf. :rolleyes:

the point i was getting at is KC actually did something productive and helpful where as Penn would probably go with some photogs on a row boat and show him scooping up oil with a bucket, then be on the cover of people magazine talking about how much he has helped

KC - looked like a photo op to me. Why would he need to call a press conference? Put the product to work and he's done. When Penn comes to town he shakes the money tree.

It's just how progress works in america now. You can't simply have a working product, you have to win acceptance through indelible imagery and presentation. Any campaign manager would tell you the same.

If brilliant science were the only requirement, we'd be powering our house on 5 liters of water per day.

Let's hope someone famous decides to be the face of the latest breakthrough.
