Thanks guys. It's nothing groundbreaking, but I like to share since I've learned so much from others who've shared their tips.
As far as books go, I think the best one by far is "Cartoon...

Thor: For this particular project, I can get by with just using those mouth shapes, but if I was doing something for film or broadcast I would create inbetween mouths where necessary.

In your button symbol, have your still for the first state, then insert a movie clip with your animation in it for the over state.
Hope this helps.

Hey everyone,
I posted a message on a technique I've come up with for doing lip sync in Flash, over in the General Help area, but I think folks in this forum will find it useful as well.
Here's...

Hey everyone. Wow, it's been a long time (and a few Flash versions) since I posted last. Anyway, I find myself working on a couple large Flash animations and came up with a nice method for quickly...

pinzasso,
When you say something like, "Its called orginallity," you have to expect some hostile responses. I think part of what is hurting your animation is how slow it is. That coupled with...

Personally, I think using gradients to shade something (particularly characters) looks very "computery", so I usually go with the hard-edged cel style shading. I do, however like using gradients for...

There is a really good article on producing cut-out style animation in Flash here:

I highly recommend checking out the rest of the site as well:

Myself, I work professionally doing digital cartoons (non-animated) and I do all my animation work as a freelance artist.

Well, thanks very much but I'm nowhere where I want to be at this point. There's a lot of work yet to be done on that snippet.
I've looked...

One of the best books (Preston Blair's "Cartoon Animation") on traditional, American-style animation has actually been put online:

I can't stress how informative and...

Not to be a traitor or anything, but there are some great artists posting work in a similar vein at:

I'm not a traditional animator, but I've been animating for a few years and find Flash to be great for doing pencil tests using a tablet. The below link is a little snippet I just started on. I am...

Personally, I've never had any luck exporting to gif or jpeg directly from Flash. I'll usually export to .bmp first, bring it into Photoshop and save as gif or jpeg from there. Probably not the...

I'm afraid I'm going to have to put in a "stroke" here as well. Great site. Very interactive and alive -- mouseovers and sounds everywhere, but not to excess. Great characters and cartoon style as...

The images on that site do look great but I couldn't find any lip sync examples.
I just went to the ToonBoom site and it looks like their lip sync component could be a good timesaver. Sure...

I've never heard of this automated lip sync thing. I would typically use something like Magpie, personally. The only problem I can see with something automated is that it would look really...

deadlift10000,
After I posted the above, I got to thinking that pictures might work better, so......

Sorry for the late response -- haven't been around these parts too much lately. But, it doesn't look like I've got any secrets on you guys. Here's how I do my Flash stuff:
1) Draw rough image...

mindgoat,
Cap'n Helpful is great. I love how he quivers when he flexes! ha ha!

Tlaloc,
Sorry, but "selective smoothing" is just a term that I came up with.
Basically, I draw my character outlines with my Wacom using the brush tool. Previously, when I finished...

mindgoat:
Thanks for your comments! Here's a little (very little) something I animated recently. I'm currently working on my business web site, so that'll feature a LOT more animation.

justice strike,
You sure you don't have that backwards? I thought NTSC was 30 and PAL was 25.

Thanks for all the responses, everyone. I've mainly just been a lurker on this board because I haven't had a lot to post. Lately, I've been using Flash a lot in place of traditional animation...

Great ideas, CNO! The only problem is that the product these images will be going into has the following restrictions:
1) can't use any text except for the date (our product is used by people of...
