The scripts actually work perfectly. the problem was that I did not have write permissions to the directory/file that asp was trying to access.

so, this question has turned into the worlds...

shouldn't it be this simple? What am I missing. I simply need to send the data to textfile.asp and have textfile.asp write the contents of data to data.txt

There must be a way to use the contents of a variable as the variable name.

for example:

d1_1_2001 = "new years day!";
date = "d"+(_root.MyCurMonth+1)+"_"+Num+"_"+_root.MyCurYear;
if...

I hope it is truly that simple!
