try embedding the text by clicking "Characters" in the Properties palette and then selecting "All Characters".

well, i suppose it's possible to use dynamic textfields to load text into a button, but creating the text for each button in Flash would be far less complicated.

you could always just break up your text and then change its appearance in the Button frame states.
On: transparent text, no bg
Over: text shape cut out of a white box
Down: whatever

shift your main movie keyframes over one frame and make your splash page in the first frame of your main movie. put the preloader in frame 1 as well.

well, i can't tell because i don't have the FLA, but i think what you need to do is load your "b_w_scratch.swf" into a blank movie clip on the main timeline of "3dtest.swf".

i did a quick test of your movie( made a movie with a button like yours, and made it load "web,swf" into level 1) and it works for me in a browser. i don't think it's an issue with your scripting......
